For the record of all time: Yes assassins are probably the best class for a new player to learn on. Thank you to all of you that have reiterated that to me over the last month hehe

But melee classes are so damn boring!

So i'm going to try skip ahead of the class a little. So far I have played Necro/Assassin/Healer/Warrior and now finally Invoker. I played a warrior to about level 3 at the behest of the mud populace, but as I said, its really not any fun.

So onto the question.

I'm not asking to be spoonfed here, but i'd like to ask as a newbie mage player, what are the kind of things I should be trying to find out as a mage.

People keep talking about wands and things like that and I dont know what it means. I have absolutely no problem with going and learning things on my own, but if someone could give some direction on the things I should be trying to do/find/learn/explore as a mage, that would be great.

TIA
Nooro

My advice to you would be as follows:

What you should be trying to find out as a new player is Area Knowledge.

The best way for a mage to achieve this is to roll up an OG Conjie or maybe a Defensive/X shifter and be a tank for ranking groups. By making yourself valuable to learning groups you will (if you pay attention) learn ranking areas well. You'll also be able to poke around and explore many areas on your own, but because potential groupmates will appreciate your presence many players will also show you around, especially if you're a goodie.

And remember that remaining visible will make you an easy target for young applicants, so stay visible!

Well, invoker is certainly not a simplest class in CF.
There are couple FAQs on Dios, tho imo they are a bit outdated.

Here are some advices:
1. Get yourself a tome. Powerrank to 38, then go for mastering your spells and getting lesser shields. Some vokers prefer to master the spells once they get them and then they rank further - this is a mistake. After you got them, master air shield (unless you are an arial) for shield of winds, watershield for shield of waves and fireshield for shield of flames. These three greater shields are most important to my experience.

2. Search for your sleek rods. Do not hesitate to ask all non-enemy mages and your cabalmates in some RP-ing way about this. Once you stumble upon me you can be almost sure you'll get your sleeks

3. Continue mastering spells and gearing yourself. Obviously, you have to gear for hp/svs/svp.

4. Quicksand and rain of stones are your lagging spells (I do not want to talk about pebble to boulder since it's kinda complicated), so try to get to them quickly. Shield of lightning can deal nasty damage so sometimes it will help you to seal the kills as well.

5. Learn about additional preps. ABS + 5 shields is often not enough against badass chars.

6. Learn your enemies so you know what greater shield (and when you become more experienced - which spells during combat) to put when you are going to engage.

If you wish, you can ask any questions to me privately.

This is why you fail.

Take your time, pick a class, learn the mud, play it out. If you HAVE to play a mage do a shifter or conjurer. Keep up the help files, use the newbie channel, but don't ask for advice if you're not going to listen to folks. Also, don't worry about wands until you can get to all major cities and can pk more than 10 characters with a warrior/assassin/thief.
