I'm not sure what point of the rules this violates, or how this violates the rules (I don't see a problem with doing this, unlike most rules which have been immediate common sense to me).

If someone could make this clear to me, and even update the helpfiles
so it's clear to newbies and permanewbies like me, I'd be extremely grateful!

There could be many reasons.

If you are logging in a character just to check pk ranges just to see which character you should play could be using an ooc mechanism for an unfair advantage.

Logging in just to locate items so you can log in another character to go get them. Or to tell someone where something is so they can get it.

In most cases, a character who logs in once every few weeks for 6 months is only going to have 10-12 login/logouts. That's never going to be a problem. Someone who does it 25 times in a month just to locate and check pk ranges is going to get busted for using ooc methods to gain an unfair advantage. There is no reason to just log in and continuously check pk ranges and locate gear. You can call this preventative maintenance if you wish.
