While aspect of the devil is affecting you, your hellfire supplication will now do negative damage instead of fire damage.

#256, "The Veil"
In response to Reply #0

This took way longer than I would have liked, but the Veil is super complex and beautiful.

The Veil calculates a *LOT* of things in determining its level, its base, its regression to the base, and way more.

The Veil hasn't been touched in many, many years. Though it felt very different than it did prior. This mainly has to do with how the base was calculated, which included player count (online AND offline). The Veil used to feel more 'real' in terms of how it touched players. At times mages would get free spells, chain spells, at times ragers could thicken it so much that their powers would be boosted and mages would have a harder time, and so on. From searching, none of these things have happened in years - and not for lack of players trying. More because the difficulty in getting the Veil to a point "where it matters" was hard enough, and KEEPING it there is even harder. This was mainly because the "base" of the Veil used to fluctuate closer to the extremes, while now it tends to float a lot closer to zero.

So I've tweaked a bit on how it works. The most substantial change is a decrease in the speed with which the Veil regresses towards its base.

I've had this change in for about a week now, and was using that time to watch it, debug it, and make sure it wasn't doing anything insane.

Since then, the Veil has reached "it matters" numbers twice - without any players having to go out of their way to a crazy degree to make it happen. And I was really happy to see that.

Now announcing it, I know that people are more likely to more purposefully engage with it. So I'll keep monitoring to make sure nothing breaks, and make sure that it doesn't cause anything insane.

Practical things for you practical people:
- The veil is now easier to keep thick/thin.
- The veil is now LESS affected by time passing.
- Player manipulation of the veil is now the most significant part of the veil's levels. So I encourage you, if you are affected by it, to engage with it.
- At super thin veils you should see actual increases to your magic, spells, etc. This includes free spells, chain spells, shapeshifter forms performing better, and much much more.
- At super thick veils you should see increases to Rager performance and decreases to magic. Including worse wands/potions, improved spellbane, and much much more.

I'm not planning on making a complete "what the veil does" list. So experiment, have fun, and hopefully this makes the Veil something enjoyable to mess around with again.

These changes are currently live.

#255, "Hydrophobia"

So touching hydrophobia means a few things.

No longer can people use hydrophobia to get login-long undispellable morale bonuses.

And now hydrophobia will work as it was intended to do, which before it didn't due to some buggy coding.

What does that mean practically for you hydrophobic folks?
Hydrophobia duration and severity increases. Before, neither actually were.
Hydrophobia's increasing morale penalty will ACTUALLY affect your morale now (it wasn't before).
Hydrophobia has some extra negatives when you've been under the water for a long time.

* The typo log as been cleared, about 35 things having been fixed.
* Seantryn Palace now understands minotaur speech, given their familiarity with minotaur.
* Seantryn Palace now accepts punctuation when talking about the invitation.
* Tooth for a Tooth now has a generic echo if you don't have a god, fixing some clumsy Tatarimokke echoes
