Ok wasn't going to do a goodbye, because all Adar really was, was a
"see if I can figure out the wand system" character. Mostly because
I didn't find Dela's sleek black, I wanted to make sure I wasn't just
stupid or something.

Amber and Black by 37. Go me. Wand system works fine.

My first time making it to hero with no pk deaths as a mage. (16-0)

I promptly got pk'd 3 times, two fiends and Gzurweeg.

Did some experimentation with angels and archons, satisfied with the
results, so I deleted.

G.

I've had all a-b-s at 35, and I've also had characters that either can't find 1-2 of them or have no possibility of getting them.

If you had a conjurer at 37 get his barrier, then you got a very easy one.

That doesn't make the "wand system work fine" because you got a random nice set.

That's like getting a lion and saying the shapeshifter system works.

Just my opinion: it works fine, take it or leave it.

Knowing that your rod will never be on a good/neutral align mob or a mob in a city narrows it down quite alot.

There have been several players who've reported having an easy time of it.

This suggests one of three things is true:

1. These guys have a different idea of what's "too hard" than you do. So while you might think a location is "too hard", they think its fine.

2. You're using the same scale for easy vs. hard, but the "hard" locations are actually less prevalent than you think, giving rise to all these players who think its working fine.

3. The system really is jacked up and there's a vast silent majority of mage players who think it's broken but just haven't spoken up about it.

So which do you think it is? Potentially a combination of the three? Or something else entirely?

> Or something else entirely?

One piece of it, for sure, is that different players have wildly different ideas of how often they need the full A/B/S. Some people think only really tough fights, some people think basically every fight, and someone thinks everything in between.

A barrier location that's reasonable if you expect to go through a barrier wand every let's say 5 hours of play may not be if you expect to go through one every 2 hours or so, or one an hour, or one a half hour.

I tend to adjust my usage of things like that based on how easy or annoying they are to keep on hand.

If I have "easy" stone skin then I'll use it for almost every fight. If it's somewhat more time-intensive to gather then I'll scale back my usage. Etc.

I do feel like Dwoggurd may have a point if the various locations really do vary a lot in how "easy" or "hard" they are. Ideally they should all be "approximately" the same difficulty. It may be the case that Dwoggurd et. al. define "approximately" in the absolute narrowest sense (i.e. "identical") whereas the staff defines it more broadly.

about your wish to just play and enjoy the process. I've seen a lot of chars who did not know their sleek wands at 30+ ranks(some of them did not even find them at hero) who was great and actualy achived a lot. And people enjoyed playing them. I think it's because they actualy put effords into a playing rather than having good set of wands, which as most think will make their chars better.

As well as I saw a lot of people who were rerolling just to find good wand set and never made anything worth attention even after they managed to get char with good set.

All in all, the more effords you put into a char, the more fun you get. Looking for easy way usualy won't give you more fun.

... showed up at the refugee 2 ticks after I started to the fight the huntress. And from what I heard from others you did that to them as well. Three options really.

1: You had your familiar parked nearby (Most likely)
2: Outlander tells you about us. (unlikely...)
3: Occ buddy in outlander tells you. (Sure as hell hope not!)

Anyways, you showed up there insanenly quick. And not just one time...

But I was SO suprised since I was had been online for 40 minutes without walking close to the tree. And you were online before me. So I figured that anyone who might had been waiting for me at the tree would have gotten bored after 40 minutes. So you must have either sat there for 40 mins (Doubt it) or had some incredible timing. hehe

Hehe
