I won't hold it against you, I Know it is hard to remember everyone. I just wanted to thank you for all that you've done for Tynnyn, you have been a great friend and mentor, and the Halls are going to be a very very lonely place now that you are gone. You were the only other Maran that I saw regularly, so I guess I'm going to need to step it up. Good luck with your next character.

You're right, I forgot, I'm sorry. Algorvhal liked you, you always seemed very strong, which was obviously something important to him. I haven't seen you around in a while though so that's why I forgot. I'm sure you'll be posting logs of kicking ass soon.

Contrary to what some will think, this was not a rage delete. Dying just provided an obvious easy time to do what I'd been thinking of doing for a while.

I rolled up Algorvhal because the few dwarves I'd seen who were paladins after the changes were just humans with beards and short legs. Nobody ever seemed to be a real dwarf. So my goal was to roll up a dwarf paladin who really was a dwarf. Protecting his people, racially hating duerg, being stubborn but jolly, all the usual prototypical dwarven things, together with a few individual character traits - like never leaving home without ale - (that were still dwarvish) were all the things that made him who he was. I wanted someone who wasn't just a storm giant paladin, and someone you'd realize was different just from talking to him. And then moreso from spending time with him. He wouldn't talk pretty with thee's and thous, or just be overly polite like some lord. He cursed - though his curses came in the form of taking god's names in vain, so to speak - he grumbled, he muttered, he was sarcastic, all that. But still paladinly because he never forgot why he was doing what he was doing. And because whatever he might be saying, at the same time he's helping you, or defending some other dwarf.

That was the goal. Being a real dwarf paladin. Once I rolled that up, I had to pick a god. I have never interacted with Astein, I'd never heard of anyone getting his tattoo or being empowered by him, and his spheres seem good for a paladin, with the only problem of vanity, which was fun to work in. So, I picked him. I know that at least one or two convesations were with him, but most of my talks were with a wizi imm and I have a feeling it was some other imm doing it for him. If I'm wrong, I apologize, it's just a feeling I got.

I have never worked so hard for empowerment or anything else. The interviews were murder. After empowerment, and the virtue, I took some time without praying because you or the imm said that I was not on the right track for the tattoo. So I gave it a lot of thought and then several weeks ago started praying again. Nothing. Sent a couple notes. Nothing. Eventually, it just got depressing. As an empowered character, and one hoping for a second virtue and a tattoo, not hearing a peep from your imm is bad news.

The other problem is that Maran has so few people. Most times I'd be alone. And I never heard from Shokai at all. Didn't even hear a word on the cabal channel. Don't get me wrong, I love the cabal and think it's serious fun, but without a heroimm to induct or interview, and with only two other real players and one who was around every now and then, it was hard to build relationships. Half the fun of a cabal is being with the other people in the cabal. It's not just about having the powers and everyone else just knowing you're in it.

As for how I played Algorvhal, a few things. He full looted. On purpose. His job was to kill evil forever. Leaving things means they just start out that much stronger. Not bloody likely. And he never logged off when things were bad or stayed away. Only once in his life did I log off only a few minutes after logging on, and that was recently when something was wrong with the character and I spoke with a wizi imm who said alright to log off. Otherwise, I would always try and raid for the hammer back, even against dullameh and others. Sometimes dying, sometimes now. But I never, ever, backed down from a fight. I had no problems ganging people, my job is not to be cador-like honorable. My job is to destroy darkness. But what upset me is that at least I *would* fight alone, if the opportunity presented itself. I challenged most enemies to fight me alone. None of them accepted. Dranolian? Started a fight and two others, including the lich, come and fight. Stargher? Didn't even respond to my challenge. I found it pathetic.

So, with that said, farewells.

Karhon, you were the first maran I met and I always liked you. I'm not exactly sure about your religion, even though we discussed it several times, and I'm even more confused that you are empowered and titled by Ilraeth but not one of her Talons. I still think you should ask her for her tattoo. What have you got to lose? You never backed down from a fight and I respect that.

Lannie, I got the feeling you were a bit of a newbie, but you have spunk. I think we under-utilized your ranger skills, which is just as much my fault as yours. I liked that you didn't give up to become a maran and it paid off. I think you're doing well. I did have a bit of a problem trying to figure out your role, it never seemed to shine through other than "Hey, I'm a good guy. Nice to meet you." And that's fine, just wondering if there was more to it.

Halning, we only shared playing times a little bit so I didn't really know you, but the little we traveled was fun and you were a good example of the solid, strong, maran paladin.

Wasarbre, my guildmate cousin. I think you stole my thunder. You and I were both very dwarven paladins. I think we had similar ideas, and you picked a path that gave you much more interaction than I. Maybe you just roleplayed better. Either way, I'm happy for you and you certainly deserve it. You fought very well, you played well and you were ready to help your friends. Exactly what a dwarf paladin should be, imho.

Gorach, my ugly musical elf friend. I think of everyone I'll miss our talking the most. I think there was probably some romantic potential for our characters, though I usually avoid those roleplay things. It just seems a bit silly to have a mud character get married or whatever. But even so, it was great great fun having you around. Don't change. And I hope you finally get your gilamdring back.

Ulthur and Persumal (I think that's your name) you were the only other two paladins, other than the ones I mentioned above, who I respected. You were both good to travel with and seemed to know what you were doing. I wish we'd had more time. And those two handed hits are strong.

Alysrith, it took me forever to come to grips with the fact that you're a woman. That name just threw me off for some reason. So sorry about that. And that language, ugh. And hating dragons, double ugh! Still, you never caved on your beliefs or role, you were generally ready to hunt at the drop of a hat and you had that "I'm a cabal leader" arrogance but not so much that it was annoying. That's hard to accomplish and I respect that.

Solamnus, I think you suck. From what I saw, you would log on, talk for a few minutes in the guild, then log off. Protecting your clothing I think. You didn't take any chances. And you never had even a single reason for killing elite guards other than you wanted their equ. You had no answer - maybe because there is none - for why you'd go killing a race that is genetically incapable of being evil. Even without that dwarf killing stuff, I thought you were a horrible paladin. Maybe I missed all those hours you were on and fighting a lone crusade against the dark. I doubt it though.

Dranolian, good evil guy. Still, lost respect for you when you brought friends to our duel.

Dullameh, must have sucked to have all your phylacteries stolen. But with all your friends around it's not hard to replenish the supply. I don't go for comparisons, so I'll not say whether you're better or worse than previous liches. I think judging you on your own actions is what's important, and the proof is in the pudding. When you're on, people flock and you win. When you're off, people leave and your people lose. That says you're doing well. As for the last time I died to the huge gangbang in hamsah, I was stupid for two reasons. One, I had the plague periapt but just plain forgot I had it and so didn't hold it to cure the disease. Second, I'd fasted before raiding and so when I got the hammer back and fled from the whole group of you fighting me, I tried to quaff my transportation potion and of course it wouldn't let me. So, that was the only command I got off before you slept me. Oh well.

Dwoggurd, you must play from a university. We had you dead to rights in arkham. You fled, I followed and you were already gone. You must have fled and quaffed so fast it's amazing. I didn't even see you quaff, you were just gone. Anyway, I'm sure you're very skilled, I have no reason to doubt it, but as a paladin, fighting a duerg warrior isn't all that big a problem. You always fled from me when we were alone. And it's not that I was much good, like I said, our race/class matchup just gives me a big advantage.

Rorimac, same for you. Though you had some advantages that dwoggurd didn't, if we fought alone. What bothered me about you was that you went ooc when talking to me. "You're a tool." come on. That's just #####. I also couldn't tell if you really believed that or if it was just your character saying that. If you really believe a maran paladin, especially a dwarf paladin, should just let a duergar walk around unattacked, I think you're living in denial.

Eskelian, we had fun, sorry the way it ended for you.

Anyway, I'm tired and I know I've forgotten dozens of people. So if you post here it will remind me and I'll post back to you.

If you want to email me, my email is hordughar@hotmail.com

hunt well, my friends.

glasses and cups of coffee and tea rest on the tables here, attracting a
different lot than the rest of the inn. Some of the glasses however have been
shattered and the tables are splintered slightly. While it pales in comparison

That was very EVIL in the fact to summon unprepared duergar
into cranial/wrath combo. My first "flee" failed, so I took
another cranial before I got a chance to run

I *could* have fighting chances against paladins if I'm fully
prepared and they are just happy with their sanc and protection.
But I didn't bother to spend a lot of preparations just
to pick a fight where a paladin can simply word away or
( if he's prepared ) wrath my poor ass.
So basically often I just prepare a bit ( stone skin/protection )
attack and try my luck, and run when failed.

I was upset to see you up and delete but fully understand....

Your charactor was awesome and I liked traveling about with you. I was impressed that you followed a 'dirty drow god', *grin*
Anyhow, you were tough and hit like a truck.

Its tough at times to be in your situation. Either you are one of a couple of lightwalkers about when there are 7-8 enemies all out hunting you, or else you find your range full of 12 lightwalkers with one or two lone evils out doing their thing. You seemed to have a great role and was able to come up with things to do during boring times....

Your curses were funny, I found myself laughing at your 'Not by the sweaty sac of scarabaues", or something like that....

Why in the hell would I fight you alone? Considering you would always attack first and therefore ruined my chances for sleeping you, I could never get any maledictions on you, and wrath hurts a whole lot, I'd be stupid to "Ok, I'll fight you, where should I come and die?". The one time I did actually get you to sleep, it took me what, ten tries just to blind you? As for Dranolian fighting you alone...well, that would be even stupider then me fighting you alone. Champion's stand and he can't do squat except disrupt you a couple times if he's lucky before being wrathed into the ground. That you would expect otherwise is, well, pathetic. Very similiar to your exit.

Amusing since I never had champions stand, and everyone knew it. And why should you die so easily? You (and dranolian) can have barrier, aura, stoneskin, shield, protection, blah blah blah. And you yourself can worldbind me.

You're just a coward as a player. I'm sorry but it's true.

And I don't want to go back and forth here, so post or not but I'm not going to respond to that.

Sorry.

You were so damned tough to kill, but I recall fighting you (or you
with a group) alone several times. Ahh well, I guess it wasn't worth
a mention, eh? You didn't ever really say much to me, and I was waiting
for you to start, but oh well.

P.S. There are so few Maran for a reason, my friend. I think it's
because only truly dedicated/skilled players usually make it in, and
if there was an abundance of those in Maran, they would dominate 100%
of the time.

Dranolian, good evil guy. Still, lost respect for you when you brought friends to our duel.

Good evil guy. Well thanks I guess. As far as the thing with the duel I was actually going to fight you alone. Then someone over cabal channel said you both were outside the chasm. Rest is history. You were one of the paladins I actually had respect for. Played how a paladin should be played.

In response to Reply #4

> I have never interacted with Astein, I'd never heard of anyone getting his tattoo or being empowered by him, and his spheres seem good for a paladin, with the only problem of vanity, which was fun to work in. So, I picked him. I know that at least one or two convesations were with him, but most of my talks were with a wizi imm and I have a feeling it was some other imm doing it for him. If I'm wrong, I apologize, it's just a feeling I got.

I was empowered by him, Duerg shaman in empire, was the high priest for a while. Nothing against astein, as I don't know the guy personally, but I think that if you got another wizi imm for some of your interviews/conversations...you got lucky. I know what you mean about working hard, Astein's interviews are worse than any other interview in the history of cf, I am willing to bet.

> have never worked so hard for empowerment or anything else.

The problem with getting Astein's Tat, is exactly his religion. Great religion, but almost impossible to balance being a perfect follower of his religion...and also seeking his tattoo. If you have any clue about his religion you will see what I mean. Other than what I have heard about astein being gone alot recently from other goodby threads, I would venture to speculate that you were getting absolutely nothing for a reason. not because you didn't have a chance, quite the contrary, but because you *DID* have a chance. I would say having ZERO acknowledgement or help from above for a LONG time would be a great test of how well you LIVE Astein's religion.

I enjoyed our interactions. I agree, you were one of the first 'real' dwarven paladins I've seen in a while. You are definitely my superior in pk, and I learned a lot just from hunting with you. I hope you have much fun with your next incarnation.

Everytime a drunk "someone" spoke to me, I just always assumed it was you. And you know what? I was right.

You were constantly making me laugh and you had your ##### together when it came to leveling or pk'ing. Other than Gorach you were my favorite bard, hands down.

See you later, 'gator.

Heh, thanks. (BTW...Alys...or Alice...was supposed to help people with that a little. ) I liked your char, and thought you did a good job with him of what I saw. Whenever we spoke, the first thing that always came to mind..before paladin, before maran, was "yep...one o' them dwarves." Good job, and good luck on your next.

Awesome, you saw Lannie exactly like I want Lannie to be seen. There is more to the role, but there is nothing overly unusual or bizarre about it. I'll go into more details when I die of old age or con death.

I really liked Algorvhal, aside from the full looting which I don't really get and haven't understood on non-evil characters. Why'd you delete? Still had plenty of time left in him, were already empowered, inducted, and one virtue. Still had time to pursue that second virtue and tattoo. Anyway, I guess with Lannie I'm approaching things a little slower and giving everything time to develop and won't be deleting anytime soon (doubt I'll delete at all). Was looking forward to growing old with the dwarf, and I still remember one of the first times I ran into you in the troll forest and liked you from the start. Sorry about not inviting you on that scarab raid, but our group first killed Pwent for Eudiac and I knew you wouldn't like that. Yeah, Lannie has killed a dwarf or two for equipment for other people. One of those crappy things about CF where you often have to go after the mobs most like you to get the equipment most suited for you. Anyway, we killed him and just headed on over to the Scarabs, I felt kind of bad afterwards when talking to you about it and naming the rest of the group with me and you weren't there. Good solid character.

P.S. Scions can't volley your communes if they're fighting, can they?

If they're fighting you, then no. If they're fighting someone else and you wrath them, they can volley it. Thankfully they cannot volley the hunt or call lightning, so I'm content for now.

We only travelled a couple of times, but I enjoyed your character. From what little I saw, you seemed to have guts as well as character.

You were quite different from what logs on Dio's led me to expect, which is partly why I'm not in favor of people being named in logs. It causes you to "know" things that your character shouldn't know, and, of course, they are easily altered or misinterpreted.

I think I'll particularly miss you going forward, because those of us who are vulnerable to a certain spell (in the sense that it works and protections seem ineffective) need to stick together given the current scion groups. A single character doesn't really have much chance against said groups, but two together should do well against even large groups.

On the other hand, now I only have to take care of Stinky, because it just wasn't fair, you AND Wasarbre picking on me ..

Thanks, Javan. I raced out of the guild the other day when Dullameh and Dwoggurd had you in market square and got there just as you died. I wrathed Dwoggurd, but he quaffed as usual, see above.

Sorry I couldn't save you that time. You were fun to have around as well, even if Algorvhal was always piqued that you servants wouldn't help him raid scions.
