Satebos. Cool cat. I remember us fighting in the late Summer and early Fall and I thought to myself, if only I had some way of stopping word of recall. I began to dally with exotics. A month later I got insect swarm, but then you were gone.
And then you appear again as a lich. Very cool and exciting. It must be awesome exploring the powers of a lich. When you had time to prepare you were formidable and you used lots of neat little tricks. Thank you for the fights!
You seem to have most of the playerbase against you, but keep on trucking. Great work. Good luck with everything.
Nerisa. Interesting character concept. I would so have liked to explore more with you, but you were always busy. That time we were down in drow city was cool, except that it was a _complete_ waste of time and I should have known better. I had stayed up for far too long, but I figured it would be better to finish (so it hadn't been a waste) than just go to bed. Ho Ho. At least it seems like you learned something new there.
BATTLE
Throkk had a soft spot for the battle ragers as he saw them to being very close to the outlander ways. If any of them attacked outlander mages Throkk just watched or walked away.
I leveled up with some ragers long ago, but I think I said goodbye to them already. Some current ones:
Taruk. I liked you. I think you are a good battle rager, but perhaps a little too transparent. At least I got the impression that you-know-who is playing the old rager again. Still, actions speaks louder than words and I saw good stuff from you. So good, that Throkk decided to leave you alone.
Droghnund. Great RP and an infuriating attitude. Well, I guess you have heard enough grief about that already. So, suffice to say that each time we shared a window I either couldn't find you or when we did meet I was softened or something similar, so decided to hold off the attack.
Djabree. Kick ass rager. Whenever I saw you, you were out there mixing it up. Way to go, man!
Dragrahl. Binders are nasty, but rager binders have a hard time against giants. There was a lot of time I peeked in at the island to look for you and at lot of times I caught a glimpse of you in Hamsah and stood next to the river spamming bash 1. It never worked though
Was it you who had knocked out Klurak on the eastern battlements? What a nice gift. Wrapped up and all
NEXUS You guys get a lot of hate but I never experienced anything bad. Well, except for Bink, but that was more Bink being crazy than the cabal.
In general I left Nexus alone and told my inducties not to raid nexus. I wished you had been a little more aggressive, though. Or I had. Some weeks I was on and so was 4-5 nexus, but nothing was going down.
On the other hand I tried to make sure that any nexan who came to the tree on my watch died for it. Dunno, think I was just lucky/unlucky depending on how you view it.
Grecken, you were cool and Throkk was not one to hold a grudge. Being a druid you were good to have around and in general I liked you. Thanks for always telling me whether I could expect an attack.
It was interesting to hunt Satebos with you. I also appreciate the nudge towards the silent tower.
Andaayhn. You were a slippery one. You were good at testing things out in safe waters and running if things looked bad. I would have liked to nail you, but oh well. I am a little surprised it was the same guy who played Izhulzin, but as you said, you were out of your comfort zone.
Praeto. Sometimes you were pretty forthcoming, but Throkk was extremely suspicious about nexans who wasn't natureclasses. I found you a little difficult to understand, but then again communicating with Throkk could be difficult at times, I suppose.

Oh boy - It was always a fun time when you were around. I knew you'd be looking for me... and I also knew I really had little chance of killing you. So many things would have had to go my way, and they never did.
As a duergar, I may have been an enemy to you, but as a rager, you really weren't an enemy to me (we were never at war with the Outlander, and you were a warrior). So, mainly I just tried to knock you out from time to time when the veil was weak, and pilfered an item or two to help strengthen it. I know that me doing it is real painful for my foes, but in some instances that's really the only option I can take.
I do think that because I *AM* a rager, when I do engage in battles, I'm not one to run off too quickly (due to all that rager testosterone and all) - and it gets me killed ALOT).
I saw you coming many, many times inside and outside of Hamsah, and occasionally on the Island, and was very wary of getting near you. It doesn't take long for me to get killed with a couple good rounds.
It *was* me who knocked out Klurak on the Battlements. I saw you coming from the Eastern Road, and had to skedaddle before you killed us both.
Come back when you have more time, you were definitely a force!

When we did, I got jumped by villagers and then Satebos came along and let's face facts, a lich is more of a problem than what ever we were settling. I was surprised how fast I made you flee that time on the road considering all the other times we fought I had to be smart and flee early cause of the bleeding. At least you helped me find out that if a tree bleeds it doesn't come out of form. That time on the mountain when I was trying to hero was funny. You shrugged off everything I threw at you. Still good times.

Throkk had a total of 79 pks against Empire and Tribunal. Over half of his total pk count. Only Nreisshe had more from an Outlander stand point with 81. But, Nreisshe had twice the pks overall. This is really what made Throkk an exceptional Nightreaver. Not only was he deadly, but, he chose his enemies with great efficiency.

As I said in my Feilinal goodbyes, our playtimes didn't/don't match up, but whenever I did see you, I knew nobody would be raiding us.
I watched you somewhat frequently when I'd be on as Twist, btw. Your RP was always solid, and I liked your way of charging in to kick some ass and then retreating if things didn't go well. It's a different playstyle than mine (typically), but I think I might try it at some point because you were obviously having a great time.
One thing I will say, though, is HAH! I read on the other board how you doubt you broke 100 PKwins. Hah! again.
Someone will pick up the PBF I'm sure, and you'll see just how wrong you are.

Heh. Sometimes I wondered what US prime time was like. In the course of a year I tried it out three times. It was a different experience. While I think I would enjoy the number of players (= more action), I don't think I would enjoy the large groups, i.e. 4 vs 4 raids, etc.
I have trouble enough with fights involving 3 players
>I watched you somewhat frequently when I'd be on as Twist, >btw. Your RP was always solid, and I liked your way of >charging in to kick some ass and then retreating if things >didn't go well.
Thanks man. While I have always played that way, I think I have gotten to the point where I don't die horribly half the time.
>It's a different playstyle than mine > typically), but I think I might try it at some point because >you were obviously having a great time.
I think a lot of it depends on the downtime. I tried to miminize that. Oh, so my stone skin prep gave me soften instead. Too bad, off to get some enlarge potions or set some fires or vandalize a shop.
I think a defender battle rager would be suited to that kind of play too.
>One thing I will say, though, is HAH! I read on the other >board how you doubt you broke 100 PKwins. Hah! again.
You know, it wasn't me being coy or something. This surprises me, but then it was never about the numbers.

Your friendly wood-making-axes druid. We tried to get into hell once but got stumbled into some weird place. Had special someone to get us out and I was laughing when we were thinking if you gonna spank the elven pally. Till today, I still chuckle when I recall it.
I was like 'Uh-oh, here he comes...'
Realized that I miss this game alot. There is so much depth but all I need is time. Even of late, I've been conjuring up some roles to try out.

You know...that was _so_ funny. Both me and whatshername laughed about it. I made a note to kill the bard for messing things up like that. Actually I considered doing it right away, but I wasn't sure I could take you both on at that time.
Thanks for all the transmuting btw.

FORTRESS
One of the plusses of being an evil outlander is the Fortress. You get half a cabal who is supposed to hunt you, yet they are not an enemy so you aren't obliged to do anything about them and you don't have to worry about raids/retrievals. Conflict for free!
I ran to the fortress cabal once in a while, so I could know whether people were fortress, but usually I was passive waiting to see if people would attack me, except for dwarves and paladins, since Throkk didn't see marans as enemies per se. I also left acolytes alone unless they really insisted on pissing off Throkk.
Mizfara. You seemed cool. I wish we could have fought some more. I remember a close and exciting fight where you got an early crunch. Unfortunately, after that one, I never found you again. I hear you got captain. Hopefully, it won't drag you down.
Angaarn. Cool guy. You were pretty active, but unlucky. I was very wary of you. If I knew you were on, I would usually wield axes with a norem primary one. Thanks for not calling for aid all those times you knocked me out.
I remember a cool fight with you and Juhldador in the forest of prosimy. If I enlarged to help against your blackjack, I couldn't bash any of you. On the other hand being knocked out, bound and cursed with no potions and only one weapon didn't look so hot either. Hmm, what to do. I ended up sending you fleeing and having to run from Juhl. A stalemate, but a fun one.
Elf paladins with temperance and defiance. Fighting you was completely unfun, but that isn't your fault. Keep trucking. That being said, Hiajist telling me he would leave me all my gear if I just fought him was kinda...bleh. It would have been nice to have a buddy to fight you, but too bad. Both times I died to you I was pretty pissed because I was so slow to register what was going on.
Vyborny. Heh, Magus, why didn't you attack Throkk? I left you alone because I thought you were uncaballed or some herald or something. Silly me.
OTHERS: Ainvar. Props for sticking it out. I liked the talks, Ainvar sounds like a real character to me. Good luck with everything.
Rioko. You were the closest thing to a buddy Throkk had. I wish our playing times overlapped more. It was cool running around together. I am sorry I didn't convey my PK plans better. It just shows how much you take for granted.
SCION. Always the hardest fights.
The Scion I liked the most was Chrichuk. He was very tough, but went for the hard fights (or hardest in a relative sense, damn scion invokers). Yay, Elmeri. You are still my inspiration. I almost had you two times, but I couldn't pull it off.
Llorenz. On one hand I thought you were very cool. On the other hand, it was clear that you would rather run away than nail the kill. That meant I was very unlikely to ever kill you. Tough, but I could just have stopped fighting you. Stupid me.
Igbah. Cool attitude. I think you are a little hard on the rookies, but apart from that keep kicking ass.
You utilize your build very well. Me getting double thrusted for devastates and obliterates through stone skin was kinda scary.
I think the time I did best against you was the first time we met where I went to retrieve and sent you fleeing. All other times you quickly sent me running.
Late in Throkk's life I did come up with a trick to try on you, but I never got around to it.

We didn't interact that much outside those two fights, but I was certainly paranoid about you. Axe-wielding giant who can get the jump on me = scary. That's primarily why I marked you that first time- so I could see if you were, for instance, waiting for me in the Shadow Grove.
When you attacked my guild guard I had already looked at you and seen that you were using a freezing bite attack axe. At that time I don't think I had martial trance. So I'm like...well, what the hell, I'm resistant to cold, maybe it'll be okay! Ahah. No.
The second time, in the weald, I think I did have trance. Man was I steamed when you got away. Was really hoping you had spammed another couple bashes in there. Did you have the bash legacy by the way? I think you had me lagged for something like 8 consecutive rounds.
Anyway, by all accounts Throkk was a cool character. I encourage you to stop on by any time you get the urge to play. Hopefully sooner instead of later!

Since it was the first time, I thought I might take you by surprise by the amount of damage I could throw out.
>The second time, in the weald, I think I did have trance. Man >was I steamed when you got away. Was really hoping you had >spammed another couple bashes in there. Did you have the bash >legacy by the way? I think you had me lagged for something >like 8 consecutive rounds.
You definitely had trance or if not that, aura/stone skin/protection. I didn't have the bash legacy, bash just works sometimes. I sticked around despite the crunch, because I figured you would too since you seemed to have the upper hand. I figured you would owasa, but that I would survive that and try a disembowl. You lagging me with kicks _after_ the owasa was pretty exciting.

I somehow knew in the last couple of weeks that your age-death was just around the corner... Our playing times actually matched rather well, I probably seen you in 8 out of 10 logins, the problem was: I amassed only around 150 hours playing time after we met in the early 40's.
There are a couple of things I would like to say but they are probably better suited for my own goodbye thread, and considering that one will have to wait for a while I think I will just hit you with a PM on the other board before I forget everything. :p

EMPIRE:
The late emperor. You know, when you got emperor, I will admit that I was relieved. I guess things didn't work out for you, though. I thought you were cool when we weren't in PK, but we didn't interact that much after you got in my PK range.
Kostyan. My nemesis. You were a tough nut to crack. I liked your banter and I thought you did a great job. I had a lot of trouble with dagger specs in general, but you took it to the next level. It was clear I could only win by surprise. I thought I had you there in Veran, but you autorecalling in combat was a neat touch.
Keep kicking ass.
Kornuel. Tough bard. I would have liked to kill you, but oh well. I screwed up my chance with Rioko, because we misunderstood each other.
Klurak. You were great! I loved your RP. You pulled off some neat tricks and was clearly very skilled. It was cool fighting you. Keep trucking.
Khrathtyn. Good luck with everything. A quality character. Tough luck that time when someone had put you to sleep at imperial inners. Heh.
Vehldriss. I got a cool vibe from you. I wish we could have fought some more! Good luck with everything and remember to backstab those annoying blades.
Dashmiri. Good luck, you can become very tough once you work it out.
TRIBUNAL I fought you guys a lot, not out of any particular dislike, but because it is much easier to get a fight. A lot of the time you guys are on duty and if you aren't, you will usually show up once I ring the door bell. The downside is having to deal with manacles and special guards, but you can't get it all.
Inglor. Oh, my old friend. You took a lot of abuse and just kept going. Inglor is a great tribunal. You have earned whatever good has been coming your way twice over. I could feel your frustration when Geran deleted. I
Before you got your virtues, you were easy. Then when you got provincial I think it was pretty even. Then you got your virtues and I couldn't do a thing. With provost guards I felt it was more or less futile to fight you.
All those quiet hours where you had raided before I logged on and I tried to retrieve without any luck. Your ability to drive me off _and_ heal the outer guardian was hard to deal with.
I almost pulled my hair out that time when I had tried various tricks for an hour, finally got the captain to writhing and had to retrieve to heal up and deal with bleeding and someone attacking me and when I came back he was in perfect health.
I think you can retire now and leave it to Old Nancy to take over. I hope they give you a fancy gold watch for good service to the Spire.
Bhaer. Gutsy. I like it. Keep trucking, man. I think you will do well with your combination of forms.
Zattanralk. From your talking when you were out of range, I couldn't wait to fight you once you got in range. But when I realized you were that new, I decided to leave you alone. I suggest you stick it out. It is much easier learning useful things in the hero levels even if it can be hard to stomach getting beat up. Good luck with everything and don't be afraid to ask for advice.

For some reason, I think our times just didn't match up that often when I came within your range. I seemed to see you a lot when I was younger, and we bantered back and forth when I'd come retreive but not much since. It seemed everytime you came on, I was just about to leave. So I would stick around for awhile (much to the annoyance of my wife) and see if you would come knocking. I'm guessing you did, but I just couldn't stick around any longer. Probably a good thing though, I'd probably be CON dead by now if you had. Good luck with your next, and I'd love to see a fire beast like you on our side once in a while...

Yeah, we rarely saw each other when you came in range.
Sometimes I needed to do some stuff first and then when I was finally ready you were gone. Other times fighting you were just low on my list for various reasons.
You are a great trib and I wish you the best of luck.
Oh, and blame Inglor for the Nancy thing

I haven't given up on CF yet. Just taking a break. I might play a tribunal some day, but it won't be any time soon and it definitely won't be a fire giant.

Ahh, Throkk... I am going to miss you both ic and ooc, thankyou for the kind words, and know my regard for you here is tripled. Inglor is actually the third char of mine to interact with you... I suspect you know who I am, heh, heh, but its all good.
As Inglor, I couldn't help liking you, which I imagine was terribly frustrating for him, liking a wretched fire giant. Some great fights and very fun rp =) That day you told me Throkk was sick and couldn't move...Throkk like move, I actually teared up and the imagery. If I had found you I would have healed you!
Well played, Sir, well played.

That's another thing I liked about Inglor. That he seemed like a good, dutiful citizen who actually cared. I guess you must be a nice person in RL

And then you come up and dual pincer me for oblits. I almost cried. I was hoping to treat you the same way I did most fire giants in my range. But damn you put out a lot of upfront damage. Throkk was probably my second largest threat, next to Igbah. And damn were you a threat. I swore you had me in Emerald when I was trying to kill Ainvar. I would have had him too! Ass.

That was exciting. Emerald was the perfect battle ground because it is wilderness, more or less every room has a different room name and I know it pretty well.. But you fooled me by heading to spiderhaunt and losing me there. FFS!
Well done.

Heh, woe is the porcupine. At hero, spear definitely had its uses, don't get me wrong, but it was painful as a first spec with a giant.
And impale was more or less the only skill in the spec set I found any real use for.

Well, I love the outlander cabal. It is so well designed. I love the powers and I think Ancient Instincts is a master piece. This was the first char with whom I discovered the true power of the skill (and rather late in Throkk's life) even though I suppose it is kind of obvious. I must say it is very, very cool. Thanks imms!
I was an outlander for almost a year, so goodbyes will focus on those who are active now. I have tried to respond to people's death threads anyway. But please, shout out and I will respond.
Thanks to Lyristeon for the love for Throkk and cabal in general. I must say that immortal interaction always leaves me feeling uneasy, so I prefer the coach approach of Lyristeon. A few cracks here and there and a rare pat on the back. Cool stuff. I had a feeling that our play times rarely overlapped and that you took a chance on me being leader and all that, so thanks for the wild shot, chief.
I like to do my own thing and I guess I am a loner type. That being said, I sort of missed having a buddy in outlander. There was a lot of cool people around, and some I had excellent interactions with, yet I didn't really have any friends among the outlanders.
I guess part of it is being an evil outlander, even though I was a big softy. Enough of that. On to the farewells!
Jhoqu. Very, very cool RP. I am a bit surprised you weren't chosen harbinger, but perhaps you turned it down? Or rarely play, or whatever.
You always had a sweet set, so I guess you know your stuff too, but it was the RP which was cool. Keep it up. A pleasure being around you.
Havalan. Neat RP, very knowledgable. Thanks for the talks and pointers.
Macha. Ah, my little flesh mage. I made sure never to ask you anything, except informing you that I was about to do this or that. Thanks for all the spells. Intercabal cooperation in outlander is always a tricky line. If we could have been buddies, we would have made a great team. As it was, I still enjoyed it. Good luck with Sun Warden.
THanks for showing up when I deleted, I had planned something a little more flashy, but I couldn't do it. And on the other hand I wanted the deletion done at that time.
Lietta. Heh heh, on one hand I think you are completely overdoing the vanity thing. It is just too silly. On the other hand, I simply love it. It is nice with some lighthearted fun once in a while, and Lietta always supplied that. So thank you!
At a scene of carnage: Lietta says 'Messy.'
Throkk: Throkk think is tough and has some fire. Leave his furs
Lietta says 'But I.... kind of like it.'
Lietta nods.
I think we are seeing a new and developing side of Lietta here... Have fun, and thanks for the scouting.
Seyriannia You know, I really liked that poem you wrote on the cycles of nature. If you wrote that in a spur of the moment in response to Leisha's tale of the nightreavers, I am impressed.
I think there could have been some interesting RP, whether the end justifies the means, etc, between our chars. But not this time around. I hope you have fun. Really looks to be a cool char.
My inducties. I hope you liked my induction ritual. I tried to tailor it a bit to the individuals, but keep to the basic idea at the same time. It was a little hard to portray adequately, but thanks for playing along!
Grijak One of my first. You were fun and cool. We rarely met up, but I liked your RP. The comments along the line of 'who can eat most elf meat in one sitting?' had me shaking my head and chuckling at the same time.
Tekkorahn. I got nothing but a cool vibe from you. Full of noise and fury. I love it! Keep kicking ass, but watch your con. I am sure the others want you around at hero too!
Vreksoek. May your world be full of vivid colors! I liked your RP. Very neat. We had some rough times with difficult retrievals in the quiet hours, but I think we pulled through nicely. Good luck with everything.
Baltizar. Good luck with everything. It was plain that you were new, perhaps in general, perhaps only to outlanders, but it was also plain that you were willing to roll with it and put in some effort to learn and do the right thing. As an aside, I was really looking forward to actually doing things with you. Lag and firepower...it would have been nasty.
An old timer I never got to say goodbye to: Linaeren. Well, what can I say? You were great! You kicked ass in so many ways. We shared some of the quiet hours back in the fall. You were so full of energy, whether we were chilling out, exploring or out there fighting. Always true to the moment. Great stuff.
Oh, and thank you for the strange bracers. It was cool to have them for a while. Too bad I pissed them away when retrieving against Chrichuk. And to the lvl 33 paladin who looted most of my stuff. I hope you went out and kicked evil butt with it and didn't sit in the guild.
Naboueh. Good RP. There is nothing wrong with you. When I was ready for the induction ritual, I had to leave. Then for the following nights, I didn't see you. Just tough luck.
Namanrin, Micafarien. Have fun guys.

I watched you a lot. A lot more than you realized. Most of the the non-role related experience you received for rp/pk came from my snooping you. Outlander, especially the Nightreavers, are about being loners and leading by example. I thought you did a great job on that. Your name is already on the totem. Took all of 10 minutes after you deleted. It's funny that you mention the coach approach. I am the state rep for Pony Baseball for the city I live in and coach one baseball and two soccer teams. I like treating folks that way. I always felt that you didn't want the attention because you didn't seek it even when I offered it, so I just did the things like the title, edge, legacy and experience stuff as the man behind the green curtain thing. Well done and good luck with your next.

No offense, man. I just got the impression that you would rather mix it up, than play it safe. And the lower ranks can be ugly for a dark elf warrior. I am only glad to hear you will be around a while to kick ass.

After I wrote the note, I headed to KiaDanah to throw myself in the fire there. According to Throkk's beliefs the volcano was home to his patron diety. For some reason I couldn't suicide there at that time.
Macha was there to gather my ashes. wink, wink.
Instead I recalled and deleted. I reactivated and deleted again a day after to sped up the deletion, but it didn't work.
So I did delete right after that note.

Throkk, what an awesome character. I am really glad I got to be around you for at least a little while. A true teacher by example with tons of patience and tons of skills.
Awesome induction thing you had going there. Just really cool the way that personalized being in Outlander. You definitely sparked some things into Vrek's role there and thanks for encouraging that aspect.
I loved the fire-gianty RP with hot winds and burning cities and being generally just beastly. You'll really be missed.
Enjoy your family responsibilities they need you more than we do. But definitely look forward to seeing you back when you get some free time (when the kids turn 18 heh?).

Yet another pillar of the Cabal, and one of the old guard gone. I must admit I am envious of your playstyle. You were just 100% balls to the wall, hot winds, and come get some. I'm just too cautious a player to ever have a Throkk but thats why it's so fun to have one of you guys around to watch. I thought you did an excellent job as Nightreaver. I never felt you had that overly caustic dripping with evil roleplay that tends to get overdone at times, but nailed the big rule by strength savagery that you were shooting for. Thanks for all you did for the Cabal and helping in your way to develop Jhoqu's personality. See you in the fields.

You win some, you lose some, but most of the time something is going down. If I knew I could get a fight in 50 minutes and just had to prepare for it, then I might manage it. But most of the times there are no garantees, so you just have to go out there and get the action going, tough or not.
>I thought >you did an excellent job as Nightreaver. I never felt you had >that overly caustic dripping with evil roleplay that tends to >get overdone at times, but nailed the big rule by strength >savagery that you were shooting for.
Thanks. It is a tough line, really. While I suppose playing evil isn't too bad, it is not necessarily fun for those you play _with_.
Whereas the "you can't hack it? Try harder. You screwed up? That's your own problem" approach is easier to stomach for your surroundings. Even if taken to an extreme, which I don't think Throkk was. More like the harsh coach.
Still I think Neyvereyd and Morasfenmere were great examples of evil outlanders. I just couldn't manage that kind of RP.
>for the Cabal and helping in your way to develop Jhoqu's >personality.
Like I said, Jhoqu is very well developed. Good work.

In response to Reply #0

Wow, it has been a long ride. With plenty of ups and downs. It has been hard, it has been frustrating, it has been easy, it has been boring, it has been cool, but in general I have had a grand time.
Actually, the last couple of days I have had really good fun. There is a lot of interesting characters in outlanders right now (especially the last 10 days or so) who share my playing times. There are plenty of good foes. So why delete?
Basically, I need a CF break. I love the game, but it takes a lot of time to enjoy fully, at least for me. And now I simply wish to do other things. I think Throkk was close to age death anyway. He is exactly a year old, which means that on average I have spent close to two hours every day playing CF. That is a lot of time. I don't regret spending it. I have had fun. But now it is time for something different.
Throkk was my first leader. Thanks to Lyristeon for giving me a shot. I was very much in doubt whether I should accept or not. I found the experience daunting, even with a "leader light" position like nightreaver. Basically I tried to judge whether applicants could contribute with something to the cabal along the lines of Cool RP/cabal dogma, PK ability or Plain Fun. But the problem to me was: How do they behave when they are not being interviewed? Anyway, that is off my shoulders now. Fortunately, I think most of those I inducted turned out to be cool.
Thanks to all the players for playing! Thanks to the immortals for all their hard work! CF is constantly evolving. I love it. Just while I played Throkk there has been plenty of big changes and lots of small tweaks. The constant dynamics of real people interacting and a relatively stable, though evolving environment is great!
Throkk was conceived around April 1, 2007. I had just given up on playing a bard, who made it to lvl 35 or something. The bard had been enormously draining to play emotionally, with a complex and demanding role, and I wanted something simple. Real simple.
So enter Throkk: Says hot winds as a greeting, doesn't like metals (no coins, generally avoids metal armor, rarely uses metal weapons) and is charged by his patron deity to kill dwarves and duergars.
That was it. I pictured Throkk as a savage, caverndweller who just happened to be a warrior. In fact, in some ways he was just a test char, to see if playing without metals was too much bother.
The metal armor issue was no big deal. I turned down wide coppers a couple of times and some darkened armor, and that was it. The only problem was Helm of black magic which is one of my favorite items, but I usually had a druid turn it to wood.
Throkk had spear as a first spec and I sucked tremendously. It was beyond funny, it was surreal. Then something unexpected happened. I got inducted into outlanders at lvl 27 or something. I usually get inducted into a cabal at lvl 45, so this was a new feeling. Man, does it make a difference getting inducted early. I still sucked, but now everything was easier. Then I got a role reward at lvl 37, which was very, very neat. Thanks Rayihn! Actually, only in my wildest dreams, I had hoped for something like that after say 300 hours and having come through rough times. Getting it a lvl 37 was just plain crazy.
Now, I thought to myself to at least get axe as a second spec and try out things. Having axe helped a lot, though the days of bash=win were long gone. Mind you, that in itself was not a bad thing, since it offered the opportunity to try out new things and see what worked and what didn't.
I had a rough time getting to hero. This was the time of Izuhlzin and Silo and Pissudin playing and in general Tribunal was very strong, so I rarely had the the fetish. When they didn't play there was a couple of very tough scions making things rough. Well, I struggled there. Then after I got to hero, things were easy with no opposition, and I considered deleting. But there were still some things I wanted to try.
And then I got some very nice imm gifts. I mostly like to do my own thing and I suppose generally be under the radar as some put it. I never expected any imm love, but I am very grateful for it. I also liked the neat touch that all of it was fire based (Throkk's sphere). Thanks to the Imms in general and Lyristeon and Rayihn in particular! It was also very cool being offered Nightreaver.
The extra stuff helped. Especially when coupled with being Nightreaver. Insect swarm is a cool power. Actually, it is crazy good.
I enjoy PK, but I wasn't going for a high kill count. Furthermore, I like the game to be fun for everyone, so I just used insect swarm against tough foes, not Joe the fortress warrior.
I'd rather have one quality kill and some deaths than 10 rookie kills. I died a lot with Throkk, but looking back at it, it wasn't so bad. Half of my deaths were due to plain stupidity and of course I'd like to cut down on those, but the other half was being outsmarted in a neat fashion or taking a gamble and losing. I am perfectly cool with those kind of deaths.
I also had three AFK deaths. Usually, one of my kids woke up and I had to go take care of them and sometimes when I went back to the keyboard things were not looking so cool. Heh, one particular time I had 1 hp left and was in combat with Doriach, I managed to flee and chamo and drink some healing with a kid on the arm and then run before bleeding took me out of chamo. That was just plain crazy.
Besides, while I did lose some high-end suits, I could usually solo a good enough reequip suit. Most annoying was those times where I lost my container with my magic stash/rot suit. It takes longer to build with an outlander, so each time I lost that was a serious drawback.
While I remember a few cool PK wins, what really stands out in my mind is some amazing escapes and/or retrievals and I wish I had them logged.
Well, I guess I am rambling now. I will post a lot of goodbyes later.
Thanks again to the players and Imms! I'll be back in a year or so. Have fun all!

Dugareh really liked Throkk and I felt really ####ty about rage deleting when I did when I could have just helped rank you some more. Hell, deleting a ram/diamondback was a fool move anyway. Reallly liked Throkk's attitude and willingness to stand alone. I remember offering lots of things to you and you declining. Wides coppers, which I now know why. I then loved fighting you as Elemek. Nothing much to say that I didn't say in Elemek and Dugareh's threads but outlander will miss your solid presence.

You are definitely in my estimation one of the top top top players of this game in terms of making the game funner for other people. You also are crafty and a good challenge in pk which makes it all the better. I interacted with Throkk with who knows how many characters and I loved every second of it and it's the few people like you that really keep me coming back to CF.
I hope your break isn't for too long and good luck with your family (I am going on my 5th year as a University student so i don't know how you do it). We both play evils similarly, harsh on the outside but huge softies when it comes down to it. Whenenver I saw you running around near eastern when i had a lower level character on the go I would chuckle a bit to myself.
Anyway, time to get back to homework .
Take care

Thanks for kind words. We go back a long way and like I said on Dioxide's, you have always been an inspiration for me. Your attitude towards the game is great. You seem to have had bad luck the last couple of chars, but you still keep trucking. Great job, man.
Now, focus on those studies! When you have only yourself to answer to, the lure of something cool like CF can be really difficult to resist.
Good luck with everything. I hope you find a way to manage both your RL and a little CF, because the game thrives on players like you.

Its my first outlander and I am fairly new. Trying really hard. I was so overjoyed when getting inducted, I had to say you can now refer to me as Alfred. I wish you could have stuck around. There is alot of things I wanted to ask you. I hope we get another Nightreaver soon.

Don't worry about it. Attitude goes a long way and you have the right one. So far you get a big thumbs up for effort.

Yeah, you know when you said that I was like ...uhm...what?!

Yeah, tough luck. I would have liked to take you under my wing, but it wasn't to be. Good luck with everything. Try speaking to Jhoqu and Havelan if he is still around about outlander stuff. And Vreksoeh.

When I was playing Vhaile I always saw you and Lin alone against absolutely insane odds. I really wish I could have helped you guys more, but it seems that time in and of itself was the solution. I knew you would get through it, but damn, I wasn't expecting you to be this impressive.
When you come back, we'll all be waiting

Throkk was just more about handling your own mess. I still got the message though, and thought you a cool nexus.
That time when you helped some trib paladin retrieve I really tried to take care of the paladin first. When it didn't work out I had to get rid of you.

The famous pendulum.
I was pretty happy with Throkk. Actually, if he had been easy at the start, I would probably have deleted long ago. Now, sometimes when things were easy and I thought about deleting, I said, #### it. Others shall not decide whether I play or not. So I tried to play through thick and thin.
I am glad I followed through with it.
>When you come back, we'll all be waiting
Don't hold your breath, friend. But keep stirring up #### and taking risks. I love it.

"I enjoy PK, but I wasn't going for a high kill count. Furthermore, I like the game to be fun for everyone, so I just used insect swarm against tough foes, not Joe the fortress warrior."
Suppose you thought Deiha as a though nut? Nvm, I know healers are a pain to pin down. I think I had 3 PK deaths or so... One at lvl 12 I think, unempowered.
Reading everything you wrote here in your thread just makes me think that my first call was right, you're a kickass player with a cool attitude.
I don't regret a single bit for going out of my way with Berak to help you to lvl 51. Since I owed you it after you helped me up a bit.
