You just wielded a staff of return (?) and escaped. I knew then it would be even tougher to get you, which never happened. Great work, and great fights.

Hey thanks for joining that wedding so long ago, and all your times for help. its sad to see you go in such a way i thought you would age die for sure, i never saw you actually die ya know. im sure you did. everyone does. but you were a powerful lil invoker from what i saw.

You really played the "ridiculously devoted to the wife" role well. As a Maran I wanted to smack you for asking me what you did, but the normal guy in Darascus understood perfectly why you would do it. I really wanted to see that whole situation, as well as Gaspar's related one, work out. I even made sure to notify some relevant Imms about Gaspar's situation, but nothing happened...*sigh*

The only mage to ever kill me one on one, Sousidan got me LD in galadon once but that doesnt count. You were the only one to ever make me send up a whiney pray,about how overpowered invokers are. Lets just say that I hated you with a passion, but loved having you around. I ended our lifetime war with a 0-1 pk record, considering we must have fought over a hundred times thats really saying something. I remember reading your immortal app and thinking, well that makes sense no wonder that guy spanked me like I stole something. Kudos on playing a devastating invoker and making Twist eat his words about not being able to seal kills. HAHA sorry twist Well played man, look forward to your next incarnation.

You and I came so close to killing each other so many times that a part of me was bummed when I actually managed it on you. If it makes you feel better, *I* was raving about transmuters being broke because of you!

Specifically, the disrupt organ spell. What a god damned nightmare. I will *always* have a serious dislike for it, as I don't think it's fair in any way...the equivalent would be a forked lightning+incurable plague/poison+chance to knock a person out. It's insane. After you'd hit me with it all I could do was make a pit somewhere and sit there in complete misery for 30 ticks, and there was NO WAY to cure it without a healer or another transmuter (neither were ever available). And I'd usually go through 20 - 30 gold just healing, healing mana, and refreshing to survive it.

That was sort of a rant. I'll be honest though, I would certainly swat people with that spell if I had it!


You were great though, and I miss our battles, even the ones where you disrupted my organs until they were gelatinous goo.

Most of Darascus kills were against fighter-no-recall classes because of one obvious reason.
Aside from that reason it is hard to seal a kill with an invoker, though they aren't on the bottom at that.

Well played invokers are just _tough_. I couldn't really do anything to you. My strategy for lack of a better one was to poke
at you to see if your greater shield was down. Normally, it is easy just to run if it isn't,
but that time where some unknown shifter with pounce stood next to you was a nasty surprise.

Anyway, we rarely clashed, because Throkk didn't really see you as an enemy.
I actually just wanted to throw out some support: From what I have heard and seen, you were a fine leader, so take it easy man.
I agree completely with your looting attitude. You get the kill, you get to take what you want.

I knew you were going to come and take a jab at me, since I was standing right out in the open, so I tossed up my shield, you came, and then the shifter just went to town on you (and damned quick, might I add). It was pretty funny actually because I knew you must have been like "Oh snap!"

I didn't get to interact with you much, other than our brief skirmishes, but I could tell Throkk was one of those rare, semi-under-the-radar (even for a cabal leader) tough guys. Good luck, and thanks for the well-wishing.

The time I died to you guys while you were raiding was suprisingly one of the high points for me. Sooo close, but then the bashdown commenced. It is much better when a victories are made sweet by some adversery. What made me sad though, was never being able to return the bashdown favor. By the end, I had a solo plan, but alas it was not meant to be with my times strectched out.

You were a truck, especially with despoil, and I liked that you'd take more chances than most other Scions and even fought sometimes without barrier. But when two invokers clash it's a friggin needle war, and we were certainly no exception. Honestly I was amazed you got yourself into that situation where we killed you, cause you could have fled early on...I think you were trying to take down Dungard (and probably getting damned close), which I thought was pretty hardcore.

I was gunning for Nolyek, I think. He was convulsing. He fled, returned and I got bashed down. Sad part is, someone's helm of brilliance blinded me, and the last command-input I got out of c i nolyek was 'You can't see him here.' And yeh, I was kinda dumb since I did not realise that dispel had caught frost fingers, and my needle damage was less than expected, so I was hoping for a lightning strike to catch you guys off guard.

I interacted with you a whole bunch and gotta say it was pleasant everytime.

My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to duel pwn you with this character like I did with the elven buddies.

You had that aura around you and I can't tell I've ever felt that as much with any other goody char I've met in CF over the years. I liked that you weren't soft and too kind and all that. Very good leader from what I've seen.

I would have liked to raid or defend with you though. I had those scenarios in my head where I'd defend with you, Dungard, Kelteon, Soayel against Eoria and her crew but that never happened...

You know, for some reason I've developed a little bit of a hesitance to believe that certain warrior builds can be successful. Nolyek sort of fit into that category, even though I really liked the character's vibe...and then I saw you dealing some really sick damage and generally kicking ass and said to myself, 'Mek, you're old fashioned...this guy is pretty damn good!'

The Fort needs people like you. Get back in there!

I began Darascus during a brief lull in real life activity after I had played Drezen. I had started the process of trying to heroimm this character, but I realized yesterday (actually late Friday night), that my new workload from school was going to be too much, and the last thing I want to do is have another one that goes nowhere. I may try again, but it will be when school is completely done. Until that time comes, if I play CF if will be much more casual than ever before.

A few comments on the role: I typically write roles that are more "out there," and do well with them. This time I just wanted a somewhat archetypal one that was well-written. Also, I incorporated a lot more currently existing locales and people in the game, so as to further stress the "normal guy" quality of Darascus. I think that it ultimately made for a more boring read, and quite honestly I enjoy my more experimental roles. But, I really did grow to love this character, rather than love him right off the bat as with Drezen.

One final word on a phenomenon that seems to have gained momentum in the game over the last few years: I can't quite remember how many times I ran into people who went off the handle (and OOC, even if they don't get it) about things being looted from their corpse (by me, and after I killed them) that I could not, myself, use. This is ridiculous. If someone takes something from your corpse, especially when they took you down, they have every right. If it's not something they can use (say, bloodstone rings for example) then do not assume they are just taking it to be cruel. As was my case, there were often a number of Squires in the hero ranks who would get full looted by various factions. I was always keeping my eye out for a little here and there to get them back on their feet, as I felt it was part of my job. Anyway, just have some more dignity - you know if this applies to you. 'Nuff said.

Fortress

I saw some really great stuff, and some really atrocious stuff in the Fortress. What I noticed is that there is a really great core group of spirited players that (I think) like to play Forties. Even if they aren't slaughtering people like Rambo (which is fine), they make the experience in the cabal enjoyable by their presence and enthusiasm. Thank you! The atrocious stuff isn't worth going into, but rest assured it is far less apparent than the good.

Pesawwkt: I really liked the roleplay put forth by this character, and though you often seemed to be on the receiving end of an ass whooping, you also seemed to kick a lot of it yourself. I think you came into your position at one of the worst times ever to do so. It would be like getting the leader spot a month after Istendil liched and had built up his phylacteries. Couple that with the fact that Niheriva turned into a deadbeat, and damn...well, rough stuff. Anyways, you've got great sportsmanship and skill.

Dungard: Man, I feel so bad about those fights where you and me went in together and you got hosed. You would not believe it, probably, but I literally had "c word of recall dungard" in the command que every time you got taken down. Anyways, you were a total beast and I wish we could have worked together more in exploration and raids. It was reassuring to know that there was such a kickass Marshall covering the times when I wasn't around.

Kelteon: I hold you in high regard, my friend. I'm not sure if you could PK a day-one newbie (j/k), and you're just an all around silly fella, but you really brought an aire of friendliness to the cabal that may have otherwise been lacking. Thank you for that.


Immortals

Corrlaan: There was a point in this character's life where I really felt the Mek Curse strong with you, because you went on hiatus. Understand that this has happened to me, consistently, with every character I have made for the past three years. Every single damned one of them. But you did finally come back and in great fashion. I thank you for that, as I know it's hard to stay in touch with the game when your real life is so busy. The tattoo, btw, is really cool.

Baerinika: You brought me into the Fortress at a time when things weren't looking so hot, and you also promoted me to a Maran and then to Captain. I have so much to thank you for, and so I hope you like that stuff I emailed you (feel free to use it however you like).

Braemir: We spoke a lot, and you were solid as a rock in your roleplay. There were times I wished you could revert to a mortal and come kick some ass with me, but for the greater good I guess it's better that you advance through the ranks and help out that way.

Iunna: I actually got a really cool gift for you, for always lending an ear when I wanted to yap. It was your favorite weapon in your mortal days (at a time when I happened to be playing a Herald that you used the damn thing on!) But, I didn't see you for a week and was tired of it taking up my inventory slot

Kastellyn: Our conversations, both the by-note one about the Fort/Village relationship and the other one, were great. I hope you are still around and kicking when I finally do get the time to get up there again.


There are so many of you to cover, I could never get to you all. Those who'd like to hear my thoughts about you, go ahead and post and I will gladly respond. 525 hours is a damn long time to get to know everyone, and I bet I could write a couple paragraphs on about 50 characters if I put my mind to it.

At first I thought you were a deadbeat dad, but I was impatient and towards the end I really started to like you. You're classy as always Mek, I loved me some Drezen and I loved me some Darascus.

Hehe, I knew you were getting pissed off about not getting to talk to me for an interview, but here was the thing: I think you spoke to me around level 11'ish to just kinda state your intent, and I liked the whole Stone n' Bone thing right off the bat. And then it was like a day later and you were 20-something and had a couple recommendations...and wanted to speak more. I just wanted you to put a little more time on the character, despite your obvious ability. That's nothing easy to convey IC, so I just didn't really say anything about it.

BUT you did finally get that interview, and I was jazzed up so I tried to give as much back to your characters as you had been giving, in terms of interaction. Glad you like it, and good luck with the Fort.

If you didn't like it, that's fine. But I can't exactly called you a "####tard" while being Captain of the Brigade (at least not with Darascus's roleplay), so making a silly jab at the nature of your character (a seaman...hah...yeah) was the best I could do.

Well, he didn't spam me at least, but both of them make me want to just turn on quiet mode and not bother interacting with anyone in this game. That's not the type of behavior I'd expect at hero from a goodie leader character.

I'll try not to let this stuff get under my skin. I admit I'm partially responsible for this mess. It's hard to ignore crap sometimes, though.

I don't get the complaints. Darascus was pretty much an all around ideal cabal leader/inductor.

Unfortunately there are always assholes who just want to bring people down. It's great to have someone (who actually interacted with my character more than 2 or 3 times in 525 hours) speak up.


Avarilon has a lot of potential with those nifty ranger tricks, and though I don't know if I could personally handle the limitations that rangers have, I think having them around is really nice.

If you haven't already, make sure you go explore some of the tougher wilderness areas. That knowledge is priceless for future characters, ranger or otherwise.

I'm open to the idea of sticking with hunters and seeing if I can possibly make one work, but that window is growing smaller and smaller

Like I said, though, great job.

I never saw this comming. I recently got a massive workload dumped on me and I just haven't had much time for CF about 5 hours a week.

Semen was funny. The way YOU lead should be the way YOU want the cabal to be, that's why YOU were the leader. I don't know why you took heat on those two things.

Having said that, I really hate you OOC just from the way you destroyed me IC and if we happen to cross paths at a CF conference(are those even held anymore) I will tigerclaw you for Rhayla's sake, and xxx you for my current. I'll leave the xxx to your imagination, but it's really scary!

Please understand I was utterly swamped with applications and just had a ton of notes to go through in general, plus the Marshall kinda petered out (he was supposed to be bringing people in...I was supposed to kick people out...not pinning anything on him, as RL happens you know). You deserve a shot and I'll definitely be sending an email to Ray and Corrlaan to that effect.

I'm a human, you called me in to help defend, but I had to fight more than you realized. That should make who I am clear enough. I understand there's probably a ton of applications, these things happen.

Oh man oh man, I could NOT get you for anything in any way shape or form. Even if I caught you with all your protections down I could never even hope to hold you in place for any semblance of time, just a bad matchup I guess (even with full abs). I really loved fighting you and interacting with you though even if it was rp insults or just a 'Pfft leave me alone'.
Two times in particular stand out, the time we there were scions and fortress and outlanders and satebos all around the ocean and the scions and lich disappeared so I went after you, you hit me back a bit then basically said there is a lich.. lets handle this fight later. Loved it.
The other time is when you caught me in Hamsah, I KNEW I shouldn't have stayed there but between Butt lag and you dropping my fly and then me having to shift into a toad with boneshatter to try to flee on the water that you had greased. Oh man oh man, that just blew and I knew I shouldn't have fought you there. But it was definately awsome that you went out of your way getting warranted (if you weren't already) to take me down in town.

Anyway, well done man.

Invokers against most shifter forms = bad for the shifter, in my experience, but you actually did quite well and gave me a genuine scare when you busted out that spider and lagged me. I thought I was a goner for a second!

As for the Hamsah fight, I was already wanted for something that happened earlier, which Darascus felt was unjust (which is why he didn't hand himself over for it).

I liked you, even though our talks were mostly posturing on both sides...it was good posturing!

I always enjoyed fighting you. You were absolutely relentless and I counted you as one of my top arch-enemies for this characters life. I really really aimed to get you one day (was going to even take Arcane Scholar just for you).

You were like Llorenz v2.0! Fortunately I just had way better luck dealing with you (until you got old enough to see through my invis...arrr!) At first I really thought you were a push-over, but man you actually started fighting back, and doing pretty well too! I know we would have had some seriously epic brawls if I had kept on with the character, but unfortunately now we'll never get to see them.

Damn, if it is what I think it is, that would've been fun to see
again. Overall, you were one of the few morts these days that I
really enjoyed talking to on a regular basis, and I never felt
bothered or annoyed (which tends to be rare these days). I hope

Darascus was a class char, and having the chance to see many side of you only enhanced the appreciation.

You defined Pesawwkt's PK ratio succinctly, got her ass kicked and kicked ass. She was a fun build and probably one I will do again sometime. I had no end of fun when we were in leadership roles. I was interviewing a squire app shortly after Niheriva had deleted, when Baerinika shows up and stands there watching me. In my head I am saying "oh please don't offer me Captain, please don't offer me Captain!" I was completely psyched when you got it, on several levels, and what a great Captain you made.

Good luck with school, roll up something low key that won't kick your homework time in the junk, and we'll see you in the fields.

Just an observation, had an app, couple rec's and everytime I tried to talk to you, you either brushed me off, or told me to talk to someone else.

Was pretty frustrating, I knew very little of your character other than that you always seemed too busy.

...I don't know. If you had recs and still got the brush, there was a reason that was probably mentioned to you. (If you are that bard then you know).

What is the deal with people making such a huge deal out of being indcuted? It's just a cabal. Take five-to-ten minutes out of your day and talk to someone. If they have a *basic* understanding of the cabal, then they should be inducted.

It's getting really old how the players playing "leader" mandate every applicant to know everything about the cabal before ever joining. The best way to learn is always on the job training.

If it's true that you brushed someone off, you should ####ing tell them why at least. A simple "Hey, we're still considering you, but need to check on blah blah blah."

I am starting to think people in these "leader" positions are seriously starting to power trip over it. It's a game. When you ignore people (from a "leader" spot"), you are hindering them from having their own fun. Way to be a douche bag.

...And I was fairly easy about it. I'm always fairly easy about inductions. I definitely inducted people for exactly what you are saying (a basic understanding of the cabal), PLUS I wanted them to have some PK's of evils under their belts.

There were only a couple ocassions where some level 30-40-something got recs from Squires and/or Scribes and then after a semi-painful conversation I would find out they've never killed anyone who is evil.

Well, I'm of the opinion that if you are going to be a Squire you need to have some evil blood on your hands. That's just the way it is, and the way I feel it should be. I never power-tripped on being Captain at all, and please stop it with your little attempt at poisoning the well, Magus (were you a certain elf warrior as well?)

But even now, in your retort, you're placing limitations and stipulations on who you feel is appropriate to be able to join the cabal (e.g. playing a game and having fun). You wouldn't induct someone if you didn't feel they had evil blood on their hands? Since when is that a requirement?

Why do players have to make things harder on other players? What is fun about that? What is fun about ignoring someone trying to join the cabal?

Seriously. That's the kind of #### I'm talking about.

Leaders have some leeway in their requirements. I *personally* wanted people to do some Squire-like-work before getting into the cabal. This really didn't come into effect until later in the character's life when the Fort's numbers were booming.

Any leader places some limitations. You honestly want everyone to induct anyone who can just spout info from the cabal helpfile? I mean...knowing that stuff is a part of it, but walking the walk is just as important (much more, really), than talking the talk.

You're just missing my point.

I understand that "leaders" have leeway in their requirements.

My point is, why do players have to oppress other players? People have enough to deal with in the way of full loots, #### talking, leveling, etc. etc., that being in a cabal can be a breath of fresh air for a player and a character. I just don't get why people have to take one more fun aspect of the game, and turn it into a chore.

I have dealt with the kinds of leader characters you are talking about, and I don't mean to toot my own horn but I sure as heck wasn't like that. I mean, yeah, I told a couple of applicants to "go kill 3 to 5 evils," because otherwise their knowledge of the cabal was great...they just had 0 pk's at a rank near level 40. I honestly don't know why some people make it a living hell to get into a cabal, and I am really sorry to those (few) who think that I was that way. I guess I am weighing myself against the bar set when I was less experienced in the game, where certain Master leaders would demand 20 perfected spells for an interview. Empire leaders might demand an insane amount of donations. Sylvans/Outlanders would demand you to write them a book on foods you could find in every asscrack corner of Thera. I didn't want any of that. I just wanted soldiers to have a scar or two before joining the army. That's all.

I realize that in the real world, recruits get their scars AFTER joining the military. However, in CF a TON of perks come with that induction - Access to the cabal donation pit, access to instant powerful allies, access to an entire scouting network, access to a safety net for when you are slept...the list goes on and on. I think people take all of those things for granted.

In the grand scheme of things, what's a few pk's for a character that is supposed to live their life killing their enemies? If that's not fair, I don't know what is.

Two: Induction interviews these days are like one huge #### sucking fest. I don't want to be a part of that.

Cabals should be named at character creation. At least then you wouldn't have Joe Blow Asshole mage-hater traveling with mages to get to level 20. And then turn around and slaughter them the first chance they get. If you don't think it happens, you're either stupid or blind.

I've suggested having an apprenticeship setup. But who the #### knows why we were asked for suggestions, since the cabal setup is still the same cock blowing carnival it always has been.

Not a bard at all, but to my knowledge and from my peers advice and expressed opinions, I was doing just fine. Not trying to rag on you or anything, but I can remember three specific sessions when I caught you were on. Twice, I got nothing in response, one of the three times you more or less wanted me to talk to someone else, after gaining to my knowledge, three recommendations.

Not to be as abrasive as Magus, but if you are going to be leader, I think a certain amount of your time should be mandated to tending to your Leader spot, or at least sending notes or brief conversation to IMHO good prospects towards the cabal IC are, because to echo him, when you disregard your leader obligations, it doesn't bring mitigating factors to the table for the low level players trying to get there.

I spent a ton of time doing leader things. If I didn't get a chance to talk to you, then I apologize. Chances are there was a reason, but again all of this is useless unless I know who you were. Obviously that can't be divulged, so let's drop the matter. It's really not helping anything.

I'm split on this, on the one hand I feel like your farewell thread should involve this, even if it is anonymous. But on the other hand, I see that you can't really reply without knowing who it is that has a problem.

Yeah, well it's been stinking up the air for an entire day now. No real point in cleaning up the mess. I just find it despicable that the first comment on my thread was an anonymous potshot titled "Why were you leader?" and then Trevant, some faceless herd member who I interacted with all of two or three times (all unpleasant), can #### up the scene so much. Sure, I can accept it, but I sure as #### don't have to like it.

You were well role played from what I saw with two other hero characters, but I cannot help but agree with the few people here who felt they were brushed aside. I talked to several in the fortress, had a recommendation, had blood and I still felt brushed off. Twice you told me you were too busy and once you did not bother to respond at all. To be fair, I got the same from two squires who agreed to talk to me and then (no raid situation) said they would do so later after talking for no more than a moment. I have always enjoyed the fortress, but I feel I most certainly can wait to make the attempt again later when squires, scribes and leaders have time. I know it is not always possible and that you had to induct or it would have just been you, but waiting over a week just to speak, not expecting instant induction, is a little frustrating.

I ranked and fought evil, had the backing of fort members. Defended the fort in raids and raided for them but never got so much as the time of day from Darascus so it killed the enjoyment of the character and it went to the back burner and has gone off the rails.

As Elemek I did, however, enjoy our fights. Never got to fight you in a raid but did enjoy ripping skin from you with the lion.
