You're right. Archons and devils respond better to orderly. Angels and demons respond better to chaotic.

So why did he go chaotic if he wanted to check out an orderly summons? Wouldn't he rather like to see them at the pinnacle of their power?

They always came eager to help. They healed about every other round. They were fine. I just didn't think they were that useful for what I had in mind.

Devils will slap on aura + barrier out of combat.
Archons only do it while you're fighting.

This is a huge pitfall that I didn't know before. Now I do =)
