Your character was so charasmatic, it was a joy to interact with you for those brief moments I was able to. I hope you had a great time with it, too bad about those cigars.

Dioxide's Log Formatter

I went to the trouble of formatting this so that it would be a
smooth read. This is much better than what is shown on Drezen's
Premium Battlefield post, as quite a bit of that got clipped.
Enjoy.

Glimpsing the Future Grim

In a clinging darkness, within the bowels of the black earth, a sharp
"clickety-clack" sets the teeth of sightless horrors on edge as an ancient
duergar works a chisel upon a wall of stone. Angered as they are by the
raucous, they dare not try to silence it, for even they can sense the
deeper shadows surrounding and entwining the intrusive creature. Twisting
and writhing, they inspire a bestial terror in the miniscule minds of
this place's inhabitants, though the duergar seems to take no notice of
them. For him there is only the hammer, the chisel, and the stone.

Having only just begun his work, there is little yet scribed upon the walls,
and it is impossible not to notice the broad plaque of mithril over the
archway under which he stands - it remains blank, awaiting the finishing
touches of the chisel once the current project has been completed. Inside the
chamber piles of gold and jewels from the far-flung empires of the realm
have been gathered. Blades of unspeakable craftsmanship, bearing diabolical
runes, rest in custom-carved recesses within the walls. Names and dates,
etched in the Skozzak dialect of the clans of the North, decorate the spaces
between the weapons, and appear to be a record of some kind.

The ancient duergar makes a final, resounding strike, allowing his hammer to
fall especially hard as he finalizes his work upon the eastern wall of
this expansive chamber. Out of habit he wedges the chisel under his arm, handle
sticking out, and taps the hammer against his hand as he surveys his work,
creating a dull thud reminiscent of cobblestones colliding. Satisfied with
what he has created, he turns and hobbles towards the entryway, causing the
eerie light of the massive, glowing bloodstone set at the apex of the chamber
to boil with unnatural shadows - shadows not cast by anyone or anything, yet
cast nonetheless.

As he unfolds a small step-ladder and climbs up it to begin working upon the
plaque, the masterpiece he had been focused on can finally be seen. Rock turned
to life by the hands of a master, it tells the tale of his beginnings in this
world through amazing depictions and vivid, concise wording. A particularly
insightful panel of this vast work speaks volumes of the one who created it...

Would it surprise you to know that I came from common stock?
Common though my blood may be, my will is not, for unlike so
many lost Skozzaks, I rejected the traditions which have
been cherished for ages untold. Though the Skazzoks fiercely
guarded their belief that they were of Jullias' blood, I
considered those who touted this ancient tradition as mere
fools who clung to the hope of the Warder's favor as a child
might cling to notions borne of dreams alone. They expected
what? Rewards for unfounded dedication to a sleeping God? It
was foolishness, and I knew that my own ambitions could only
be realized through my efforts alone.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I found the echo of my soul in the gospel preached by an
annointed priest of the Lord of the Earth, Daevryn. It was
through His divine word that I liberated myself from the
Skozzak pack mentality, abandoning the clan and seeking a
destiny forged by my hands, not by the circumstances of my
birth. With wits and steel is a legacy made.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The depths I left behind, for the bold always ventured to
surface, where all things are a test - a trial under the
searing Eye of Shokai in the sky. With only a crude blade of
ill-forged iron and the clothes on my back, I sought out
challenges of the mind and body, feeding my desire to grow
stronger and wiser. Always, I lusted after secrets and
had not a care for those who forsook my study of all things
demonic, for I knew these forbidden insights would lead me
to everlasting glory. To what purpose was I going to put my
knowledge and strength? I did not know then, and it did not
matter, because the journey itself was what honed me, but
the destination would soon be revealed in the darkest of
darks.

==============================================================================

Another final, resounding strike echoes through the blood-lit blackness, and
again the duergar pauses to consider his work while thumping the hammer against
a palm of stone.

At last he stops, and for the first time the deafening silence of the earth
suffuses the stale, dusty air. With unexpected suddenness, he speaks the passage
now inscribed forever in the mithril, evoking a strange power to watch over this
place, and causing the silence that was once so deafening to hum with an unseen
force...

At the bottom of the ominous epitaph is a series of harsh, blocky, and distinctly
duergar runes which translates roughly to "The warlord will rise to take his crown
upon the Last Sunset."

Memoirs, Chapter One

Resting atop a raised platform near the northern wall, upon what appears to be
a place designated for a sarcophagus, is a time-worn journal bound in leather.
Though the pages rustle with the brittle rasp of sun-dried snake skin, they do
not tear or tatter as they are turned. The rythmic clanging of the hammer and
chisel induce an unexpected, if not unwelcome trance as the yellowed parchment
reveals the first entry ever made by the ancient duergar. The style of the
script is shockingly crude and the diction is reminiscent of a hostile youth's,
which deviates greatly from the general aire of the material now being engraved
permanently into the walls of the chamber. The accounts upon the first few pages
are hard to read and rife with spelling and grammatical errors. Strangely, the
veryfirst page seems to have been ripped out, and upon the inside of the cover
there is a broad black mark; below it is a rune which must signify ownership by
the duergar.

Thankfully, and miraculously, the entries seem to rapidly improve in clarity and
tone, becoming far more insightful with the passing of time.

The Black Blood of the Earth

Considerable time has passed since the old duergar began his work on the earthen
walls of the chamber, and for now he seems satisfied. He climbs down from from
the ladder upon which he had been standing while affixing carved slabs of dull,
pitch-black stone upon the ceiling. Upon them are amazingly accurate portraits
of the night sky, with each star represented by brilliant diamonds of varying
shades and subtle hues. Slowly, he makes his way out of the chamber, taking a
moment to gaze upon a crumbling, tattered pair of boots that look to be extremely
old. Chuckling to himself as he reminisces about an old memory, he pulls a thick
cigar out of the recesses of his clothing and holds a cupped palm towards the end.
With no apparent source, a tiny flame springs to life in his hand and lights the
cigar. He closes his fingers around the flame and makes a slight rubbing motion
against his palm, leaving only a trace of smoke. His shadow seems to linger in
the weak red light of the chamber for a while too long to be natural before
rejoining its master in the black tunnel beyond.

He walks for a long while, enjoying the motions of smoking the cigar with a
patience known only to the elderly. After a time a swishing, liquid sound can
be heard coming from up ahead in the darkness. He seems unfazed as he walks
towards it. Minutes later the swishing fades into gurgling and splashing that
sounds similar to water, but somehow thicker...heavier. He stops, takes one last
puff on the stogy in his fingers, and then mashes the rest against his palm
until not a single spark remains. A blackness abruptly returns to rule the
tunnel and strange, alien whispers begin to snake through the stale air like
a tide of vipers...

"Khab'ek!"

A brilliant orb of sizzling white light suddenly snaps into being - a thing which
no duergar in his right mind would want to be present for. But, curiously, this one
is wearing a thick pair of tinted goggles that he must have donned in the darkness,
and now stands with a triumphant grin as the shadows are repulsed.

"Yeh test me even now? Yeh know who the boss is, fellas. Don't be makin' me get
the urge ta show yeh the ropes again."

A plaintive wail echoes from the darkness, and seeming satisfied, Drezen turns
his attention to the roiling river of what can only be described as "black blood"
that flows wildly through the earth. He walks along the bank of the river until
he comes to a place where the liquid is calm. With a bit of effort he kneels,
casting long shadows from the now distant orb of light, and looks at his dim
reflection peering back at him. He looks weary for a moment as the obviousness
of his age hits him, but after a moment he looks as stolid as ever.

Memories that only he can see seem to flicker to life in the black murk, reminding
him of conquests and tribulations long past, as well as those trials still at work
up above the shelter of this labyrinth. He comes here often in order to reflect on
his life, which he believes is a practice that he believes necessary in order to
remain in his God's favor, for Daevryn always questions the hearts of men; Did you
honor my teachings? Did you survive the trials I set before you, only to become
weakened by the effort later? My chosen are made not of the weak lime and chalk,
but granite and iron, and they do not weaken in a gale - they break the gale. Do
you bend and break when the wind grows strong, Drezen? Did you crush those who
sought to prove themselves greater than you, or did you fail yourself, and so fail
me?

With each perceived question the old duergar answered with half-heard mumbles that
he had uttered a thousand times before, the audible words only a vague echo of the
hearty shout his soul cried out in response. This is how he communes with his the
unyielding Lord of the Earth, strengthening his faith and revitalizing his resolve.
He closes his eyes after a while and, suddenly, dips his hands into the turbulent
liquid and pulls them back, cupping handfuls of the substance. For the first time
an utterly malevolent expression covers his face, revealing the wicked heart within
as he shouts into the darkness...

"Hell is in this heart, an' Hell I bring ta all who stand in m'way! Time be damned,
for I'll rise even from th'grave ta take this world!!"

A flame once again bursts into life in his soaking hands, and immediately erupts
into a blaze. Focusing intently, and somehow unfazed by the fire upon his flesh,
he hurls the flaming liquid back into the river. The river erupts in a conflagration
great enough to warm Cocytus.

"Burn th'very veins of th'earth. Burn until I say yeh stop!"

With that, he turns and heads back into the darkness, dusting off his blackened
but undamaged hands.

Memoirs, Chapter Two

The nearly illegible writing within the journal has improved by leaps and bounds
within a short span of pages. Much of the previous entries described acts of
violence and vengeance against Drezen's enemies. Of particular note was a passage
detailing the destruction of a pair of would-be assassins; next to the paragraph
is an accurate rendition of the legendary Battle Axe of Rah, which is apparently
a trophy from that battle. In the margins and upon the backs of every entry
are words repeated over and over, as well as alphabets in the common tongue.
They look to be writing exercises.

The word "Shooloo" draws attention to the following passage...

______________________________________________________________________________

(Day of Freedom - Long Shadows - 64)

At my Lord's mansion I met the Shooloo himself, a man...but not
a man. I don't know what it was, but I think it had teats like a
woman, yet still looked too manly. Anyway, once I got past that...
<duergar rune for "strangeness"> there was much to be learned from
her...er, him...whatever. He told me how to impress the Lord, and
get his attention. He said, after learning a thing or two about what
drives me, "Slay ten of those who walk in the Light by the thirtieth
rank of your guild," and so I got on it. I was plannin' to do plenty
of killing anyway, but this is a fine goal, and one that'll be a
challenge.

(A list of names has been written at the bottom of the page, with some
brief notes attached to each, such as "elven magi - transmutation - girly,"
"stormish warrior - axes - big scar on cheek." It looks to be a hit list.)

____________________________________________________________________________

Ambitions

==================================================================================

Drezen has realized his dream to become one of the Chosen who will rule over
the world when the Prophecy of the Eternal Night comes to fruition. Not
surprisingly, he was given a cold reception from the few elder magi who still
hold to the infernal pact. But, if they had seemed needy or desperate for the
power he could bring to their lot, he would have sensed the weakness and set
out to have them assassinated. As it stands, he's pleased with the strength
that has been demonstrated, and he has certainly made a point to try their
patience with his bold duergish manner.

Having failed to be admitted into the guild of dark knights after leaving the
Skozzak territories, Drezen deemed them as foolish not to see his potential,
keeping his priceless warrior pride in tact. At that point he joined the guild
of warriors in order to develop his strengths, for even though he was considered
too old and inept in the arcane arts to be dubbed an anti-paladin, he was always
good with steel. Drezen has since gained some small measure of fame by making
sure to leave his defeated foes with an autograph of his name. He does this for
several reasons: Firstly, to forge his own legacy so that he might rise to
dominance. Secondly, to dishearten his foes further, for he knows how to wage
a war against the heart as well as the body. Lastly, because he does not hide
his alliance with the shadows, he wishes his name to be whispered in fear so
that the Ccul'gra will respect him and reward him accordingly.

The relevance of Drezen's behavior is that it guides him ambitiously towards
the top. He knows that the mantle of Chancellorship is most often reserved for
magi, but as to the position of Advisor, he believes he is the best suited.
The obvious weakness he has seen is a lack of martial superiority in the Fold.
That's to be expected in a coven full of sorcerers, but since he is there now,
he believes it is his place to deal with all those who would pit their blades
against the Chosen.

Besides, he considers himself a student of magic, though his own stubborn pride
keeps him from seeking out any tutelage, for he knows he can do it himself. Of
course, he never admits to himself that it might take a lifetime to learn how to
do more than make a simple cantrip or two.

==================================================================================

Memoirs, Chapter Three

The margins of the pages containing the next passage have been completely
filled with archaic runes and phrases. Much of it is repetition, as if the
author were impressing the spells as much as possible into his mind. The
actual entry is written in a sharp, blocky, yet rigidly structured hand, as
though the characters were duergish conformed to the common tongue.

Unfortunately, some signs of the journal's age are evident, as the bottom of
the page seems to have been mangled.

They'd never believe me back home. They'd never believe that I
can command the might of an entire clan of witches and warlocks to
use their power as I see fit. They aren't always so willing, but
they bend when I say "bend," and some even break when I say "break."
It was Victoria, the ill-named daughter of the Drow who chose me as
her Advisor and Taskmaster. She, herself, was chosen by forces now
wholly un-named, to be the Chancellor. About that...the Nightborn,
having slipped into torpor, perhaps never to awaken again, has left
a void in the realm of the Divine. Her power could, perhaps, be
seized. I have only scratched the surface of the arcane, having
learned of a few useful spells, but with time I might come to learn
of magic strong enough to siphon Her essence.

While I'm pouring my thoughts onto you, once again, my trusty
little journal, let me write of Zesam, the Shooloo, once more. I
think that perhaps, in its jealousy for the favor of the Lord of the
Earth, this creature has long sought to drive me into ruin by ever-
prodding me, as it were, towards the edge of various cliffs. By
"cliffs," I mean its goal-setting that it constantly tries to do for
me. I followed the Shooloo's designs for a long time, seeking to
impress the Lord through it, but I think that it has, in fact, been
a hinderance, for He has never touched my life in a tangible way,
save for his teachings. Mayhaps I have been led astray so that the
Shooloo, who must be wary of me, can keep whatever glory the Lord
can bestow for itself. No more. I have done more than any kin of mine
in a tousand years, and I am just beginning. You offer illusion and
misdirection, but I see through your smoke and mirrors, Zesam. Yes,
I see through them.

Keeping the Hate Alive

This part of the journal breaks from the dated entries which have become familiar,
detailing plans for what looks to be a statue of a dwarf and a wolf. The former
being none other than Thror Hammersong, with the latter, of course, being his
hated enemy, Serafim. The duergar made sure to indicate the dimensions of the
creation, which are truly collossal. The scene, though grim, looks like any other
mundane work of art until the next page hints at something called "The Reckoning
Time," and contains several fragments of a sorcerous rite that looks to have been
worked upon the statue itself. Bits and pieces of the various spells have been
left out on purpose, perhaps to keep the exact details lost to history. But, at
a glance the intent is obviously malicious, and the following comment reinforces
that notion:

"We beat them on the field of battle, now we strike at the heart and soul."

In a typical attempt by the duergar to fill every last blank space of this journal,
the bottom half of the final page concerning the statue turns to another matter,
briefly indicating a desire to see the Fortress of Light razed. He points out that
he could "kill two birds with one stone," whatever that means, by setting fire to
the foliage just outside the stronghold and then salting the earth. Overall, the
tone of the passage is more hateful than usual.

I like the writing style, it's endearing and entertaining. I think it shows if you really pour effort into a role it can be it's own reward as well. Should inspire a few more that make great reads even without a character attached and I think the great part of this is you do get a feel for Drezen from it. Very nice.

I had a good time with this character, which is all I really wanted to do after my last (which was fun, but for various reasons never afforded me much opportunity to just "go crazy" and hack up my PK range). And from that previous character, I knew I needed a break from mages, but I wanted to continue with the Scions and I thought a well-played warrior would be vital to them kicking ass. For the most part I'd say that was right, as a melee class mixed in with all those mages can be really, really handy.

On my PBF: Thanks for the kind comments all around. Very cool. My one caveat with that record is the Gank-O-Meter. I really think the way that system works gives a wrong impression. I have tons of fights logged of me going solo (and anyone who ever fought me probably fought me solo at some point). However, I always suspected that cabal raids really turn your score to poop. If I go in with a 5-man team and two poor defenders get mowed down (and I get the last hit), then that's horrible for the score, right? But the situation is practically unavoidable...Bleh, is all I have to say. As far as the role, it kind of took on a life of its own as I began writing, and I found that I had a lot of energy to do all the little formatting bits that made it unique (of course, they looked all mangled on the forum, but there is nothing that I can do about that.) Glad you guys enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

On the Statue: More to come, I think, so I will let that play itself out.

Finally, I had even entertained the notion of trying to Immort with this character, because I think he had enough depth that I could really carry his personality over and make it a long lasting thing...besides, afta' typin' like this f'bout 350 hours I was even b'gennin' t'think this way, oi, so it wouldnae have been a problem t'carry it on f'th'length o' his Immortal livin'.

Eshval: Disappeared right as I got into the cabal. Bummer. Scion really needs a patron Imm or two, because the characters within it (from what I have seen) are definitely worth the interactions, and to some degree are probably expecting some. Oh well. Good luck with RL.

Kastellyn: Thanks. Just, thanks.

Daevryn: I hoped we'd get to chop it up a lot more, because I have never had a follower of any of your various guises over the past 11 years. I suppose marriage is a big time-sink though, so no worries. Afterall, I am getting married real soon, so I can't hold it against you for being aloof, since I will probably be the same way. I don't know if you knew, but I left many-a-pair of some dead person's boots at your mansion. Something only a nutty duergar could probably appreciate. Thank you though, for the one time we did interact and you followed me around while I tried (and failed) to kill a bunch of Forties. I did manage to kick a lot of their butts that day, so it wasn't a poor showing - just not as cool as it could have been. And thanks again for the title, although Drezen would always insist that he was a boot "collector," I am glad you could see through his delusion to the fact that he was just a greedy duergar with a fetish for snazzy footwear.

Twist: I had all sorts of goodies heading your way. One time I had been trying to reach you via prays for about 4 days, because I had Amathylar and the Unholy Blade of Zurcon to give you as well. I wish you had been around during my times then.

Rayihn: Too bad you never took me up on my offer, but thanks for not killing me.

Scions

Victoria: I have always respected Victoria, even though you wanded-up people (not just you) would often seem to forget that I was working with just stoneskin, and then lead me into some crazy-bad fights. Fortunately it worked out a lot, but there were those times where it got me brutalized. I am glad to see that you stuck around after losing the big weapon, and I hope you can return to some more active playtimes, as it was a rare treat to run into you in the latter days.

Rettis: Dude. Dudarino. Dudanowski! I will always remember us having that horrible range of villagers, and me saying "We cannae take down an entire fargin' army." Then you said, "I think we can." And we did! Bit by freeking bit! You were, of course, great to have around and you were seriously missed when you left.

Laviter: Definitely a force to reckon with, and you probably have the most knowledge about that one particular area than anyone I've met. Thankfully, you shared with me, and in a very well-played, ic'ish way that I honestly think you should be commended for. The way you enlightened me was the way things are supposed to be done in this game, and show that people do not need OOC rings to do things that seem too hard. Thanks again, and good luck with that old age thing.

Isspyn: I was so glad to see a kick-ass drow warrior on OUR side, rather than with the village or Empire. We needed a solution to all those quick freeking elves and whatnot, and you certainly did a number on all of them. I always felt better when I knew you had my back, and really felt terrible the two times you died in our raids. If it wasn't me they were gunning for, it was you it seemed like.

Djirhh: Hey, I am REALLY glad you rolled with my somewhat harsh treatment of you at times (like outright attacking you). In fact, you played it in an entirely appropriate manner, and because of it I give you respect. Plus, you were always out there trying to kick some asses, even if it didn't always work. And death never seemed to get you down. I am not sure, and don't take this wrong, but I got the feeling you were a bit newer to the game than the other Scions, and I wanted you to have a chance to stay among us and learn...and just have fun. I hope you did.

Ghavoul: You've got a good chance to make something of yourself in the cabal. Rank up and give it all you've got. I want to see logs of you putting the fear into people.

Other Scions: Guys, log in more. I had a short list of people who deserved a booting for being dead weight, and now that I am gone you all don't have to worry about it, but...c'mon, help or get the hell out.

Everyone Else

Izuhlzin: You were a vital part of some many fights, whether you were there or not (because I often bummed some haste off you when times were tough), and I can't tell you how glad I was to have you around. You conducted yourself just like I think an evil Trib should - in town, play it harsh and by the book...outta town, anything goes. Drezen always said that if there had to be a Spire in his lifetime, he'd want you in charge, and I had every intention of killing off all competition for you...except for the small problem of the Tribunal being a fricken army and only leaving the city when absolutely necessary. I personally think this cabal needs some severe numbers limitations. Towns don't need triple or quadruple coverage...there needs to be more gaps where crime and chaos can occur.

Lyug: I gotta fess up bub. I was totally letting Naitan stalk you that time when I was young, in Udgaard. The way I saw it, if either of you died I was going to win...which I did! I really did like Lyug though, and would have found a way to get stuff back to you.

Juliane: I have no idea if this is true, but I really felt like I helped your character grow by fighting you a ####-ton of times. I got you most of the time early on, but you really got hard later (thank those freeking lightforged weapons...grrrr....). Your skills improved too, and you were always a ballsy opponent. You had Loot Respect, which was cool, but you seemed to expect a bit too much from me when I got you in Hamsah with Ravon (the time we used Rawanj for bait). Man, I had been getting my ass kicked due largely to some preps of mine disappearing, and each time I died the people took a little bit. Well it added up, and I desperately needed some gear. I think I got about 5 pieces from you, and you told me I'd get nothing the next time I died. That's your choice, of course, but let's all think back to a few years ago when you could expect a full loot everytime you died...nowadays is so nice in that regard that I think people are takign it for granted.

Ilmdrin: Dude, bring Scarab to Scion. Make that leap. You were always cool and I wish you would have ranked up to help a brutha out.

Ktaar: Much respect for you. Our fights were pretty gnarly, and that damned martial trance is unreal for a melee class to overcome. I am sure there must be limitations that I do not know about, but just at a glance it seems extremely nice.

Vhloughvang: Competing against full rager powers on a stoneskinned, 4 or 5-spec warrior with god knows how many legacies is god damned crazy, and I was jumping for joy when I got you that time in the Chasm. Of course you promptly beat me with a deathblow pugil (I really can't tell you how lame I think that is...not your fault though) in the desert, so that was nice payback on your part. You were very mouthy until we had our bouts, and then I think you developed a grudging respect for me, so thanks.

Brinkmun: You seemed to have it rough against my particular combo, but that fight with me flurrying followed by you landing that vicious drum was just too cool. Thanks for the fun.

Armonk: Always willing to chop it up, though you knew when to get the hell out which was a pain in the ass. Watching you at convulsing, sitting amongst a bunch of Tribs, made me want to just say #### It and kill you. Good play on your part.

Hunsobo: I think I said it all in your goodbye. Man, what an animal. I *almost* rebuilt the entire set you wore, but some freak occurances happened that ruined it. I got strange bracers and you know how I lost them? I found Linaeren hiding in bushes and used the only thing I had to get him out - a chain lightning potion. Well, it got him out, and hit my nightwalker (at 12am....). After getting bounced around on linaeren's briars due to wimpy kicking in, I managed to teleport with 9hp...just outside galadon, and the nightwalker gated and killed me. I lost the bracers and a bunch of other really nice crap then. Talk about some suckage.

Linaren: Kinda mixed on you. I liked fighting you, but I hated your willingness to jump in on any freeking fight I happened to be in.

Xinrithil: Same as above. In general, the ambushing is just an outlander trait...I just hate that the Fort's geography makes it so incredibly convenient.

Mesashian: You took some serious beatings, but you had a lot of "brass," as Drezen would say, and a few times you were intrical to my demise in raid situations. I liked your attitude all around.

Lyriana: One of my first PK's! I always thought you were going to beat my ass later, but somehow it never happened. You definitely had the ability, and I think I was just lucky.

Niheriva: Your RP made it hard to not want to smack you (the smart-ass Elf thing), but I realize it was exactly that: RP. So, you were doing well. Fighting you was like fighting a machine. I knew exactly what you'd do, but even knowing it did not make it any easier to combat it. It just comes back to Paladins being godawful to duergar. Funny thing, though, is that I am not sure if you ever got me. That one time you had me close on the Sea of Despair, lo' and behold Linaeren sniped the kill with call lightning. You are probably the closest good-aligned equivalent of a lich, and so the game is revolving around you somewhat right now. Live it up while you can, and make things happen!

I have to go to work, and I know I am forgetting a ton of you. No hard feelings, just respond and I will get to you.

Thanks a bunch.

*drumroll*

What a pain in the rear. In a good way. I think every raid on Empire involved you.

I knew you were Mek, because Drezen and your drow necromancer were the only Scions that made me feel like, hey, even if I manage to anathema myself, Drez/Sek will probably give me some work. Good luck with the wedding!

Oh, and I have to know. Tell me you were hasted that time you trounced me at the inner guardians. That was so ugly.

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed having me for backup. I did always try to catch you on. I always enjoyed Drezen. Whether we were beating our heads against the Maran or just having a smoke and a drink, it was good times. As for the raids... sometimes death is how it goes. They did seem to like gunning for us. Hell I was always glad when you were there -- then there was only a 50/50 chance they'd stone cold smoke me!

I don't even know where to begin. There's lots to say about Drezen. Since I'm still alive I can't really say too much, but I felt totally outclassed. Isspyn was miffed to find you being Advisor after being an app for sooooooo long, but you turned his attitude around in short order. You always had something interesting to say and you grew on him quickly. Often Isspyn was at such a loss to respond that he probably seemed aloof. A duergar to stump the drow wit, who would have thought?

Drezen was the closest thing to a brother in arms Isspyn was ever likely to have, and was one of the few people he was happy to lay it all on the line and die for.

I'll be watching your statues... It's a shame you're gone. Now Isspyn will have to find someone else crazy enough to spill his scheme to.

Good luck with your next! Damn fine job.

"Linaren: Kinda mixed on you. I liked fighting you, but I hated your willingness to jump in on any freeking fight I happened to be in."

I can see why you'd feel that way. I don't generally run with a lot of preps and you make a mean combo for me, doubly so since you weren't stupid. I only really knew three things about you:

1. You were dangerous.

2. You worked with Izuhlzin (which made you a threat x10)

3. That we had fun interactions through yells.

The chain lightning potion was clever even if it did backfire. I saw your nightwalker hit a crazy acid blast and winced, then realized it had done that to you just did my best to stay on you. Felt bad when I located your corpse because I figured it would be empty. I'll have more for you when I'm dead as I don't really want to give too much away about the elf.

Again, your role was super badass and I wish I'd gotten to deal with you from an ally perspective to see more of it in action.

I spent alot of hours with Drezen and definitely had tons of fun during those times. You showed me quite a bit (most of which i've already forgot though!) and having someone cool like Drezen to hang out with made me sink alot more hours into CF than I had originally planned - you actually made me feel guilty about not having a very well defined role.

Thanks once again for the good times and showing an old noob like me around. I was even accused by some #dangeroom chumps of being a perma with you which I thought was kinda funny.

Cheers,
Jhyrb

Kastellyn: Thanks. Just, thanks.

You're welcome. Sorry I couldn't wrap all that up while you were still alive (my times have been slipping a bit lately...RL is getting more powerful by the week, and there's not a lot I can do about that right now), but I'll still wrap it up even though you're dead. Some things when set in motion develop a life of their own.

As always, great character, you constantly raise the bar for everyone around you, both from a PK and RP perspective.

Yup.

And here's where I disagree with you. Nothing inherent in the game forces you to bring overwhelming force to every raid every time.

People who are strongly solo fighters and occasionally have raids like that will still tend to have lower numbers.

If you feel like your character would bring the metaphorical gun to the knife fight every time, I'd just suggest making peace with that number reflecting you being the super-ganger that you in fact would be. Not every character has to be a solo bad-ass.

I can admit that I'm a bit of a deadbeat religion dad. Hopefully you got some enjoyment out of the little bit of interaction we did have.

I got to watch a fair bit of Drezen (mostly at times that are really bad for me to actually interact) and I have to say your RP/flavor was great across the board. I hope you put as much effort/energy into your next! A lot of people can write great roles, but a lot (often including myself) fall short of being able to translate that to a really distinctive character in play. This wasn't a problem that you had at all.

While I do not think I was a "super-ganger" that needs to "make peace with it," I think there were enough instances where my 3-man retrieval squad (often a mish-mash of whatever allies I could dredge up, since Scions were rarely around in force during Fortress peak times), went head-to-head against group that was as big (most often bigger) at the Fortress. Manage enough kills in that situation and it drives the score to crap. That's all I am saying. Personally, I hate that gank-o-meter. I find myself consciously thinking about changing things up in-game to deal with it, and I have seen plenty of others do it too. For instance, cutting out of a group when someone you are fighting is about to die.

I think there should be some kind of exceptions to it in raid situations, and I think it should be relative to the size of the group you are fighting. If a 5-man group fights another 5-man group and you kill one of them, it should not count against you as if you just 5 vs. 1'd someone into the ground. It should count as 1 vs. 1, sliding up or down the scale incrementally.

Eh, at the end of the day it's not that big a deal, but it will always annoy me.

Anyhow, thank you for the times that you got to interact.

That Drezen was a character who was completely unafraid to mix it up with just about any number of opponents one on many, but who equally seemed unhesitant about bringing a group of 3-5 to mow down one or two truly PK-awful characters.

I don't have any problem with that given Drezen's role/RP, but I feel like you think the second part of that isn't true.

As far as your Gank-O-Meter aside, I wouldn't mind seeing a second stat that provides that kind of number, but I would say deciding on how many relevant allies and enemies a character has (algorithmically) is a somewhat less straightforward problem than it immediately appears.

Did that one thing in that area get removed because of me? If so, I would like to know why.

I kinda felt like you must have watched me go around brawling the world, head there to pick up that thing, and then said to yourself, "Hmmm, well he's fighting the Fortress 24/7 and is getting his face melted by wrath every 10 minutes...I think he needs a little more pain." Of course, I doubt that is how it went down, but I gotta admit it was a little demoralizing.

I have learnt a great deal about playing a warrior and just pking in general through our fights. My self confidence really grew as we continued to battle. You did whoop me good early on, but that eventually changed. I suppose the searing weapons had some part to play in that. I still can't believe the way I lost the strange bracers to you. I felt so stupid. I was just a little pissed that you had looted me with Ravon that time, because I had just slain you the day before and hadn't taken anything. I was just angry for that moment, I'm sure I would have done the same thing if I were in your place. Great character in general.
