#42552, "Seddis Stoneshoulder, disgusted, and satisfied."

DISCLAIMER: Long rant before goodbyes

I've had several successful characters, even on PBF, Crendal, Faelier, Huegyn, and a countless number before.

I will give it that I have not CF'd in several months, and being my third villager, mage kill wise, have greatly outdone Seethian, and be it overly accepted or not, for my role play I kept it at it's max as far as my character was concerned, on all levels.

Character BS names, michelle, richard, turaloora, etc,

People that are paladins IC, but lie, to try to win,

Giant races that show more orcish cowardice than the
weakest of any orc,

Honor seemingly classes that won't fight unless behind
several people, and still die,

And a slew of other things.

I used to play this game for it being so strict in enforcement, it's over adherence to rules, etc., and I got an Immslay for "Avoiding PK' from someone I killed in that same area without even getting a scratch, but because I had to goto bed getting up for work at 5am and dropped link, when even Link Dead in no danger to myself I get punished?

Too many things, but most of it is just ####, imho.

This game used to be something, Used to be, and it's a wonder why there's 15-40 people playing at a given time nowadays, but it won't be a wonder why I won't be. It's nothing more than A shame I bothered to come back at all, because not only has nothing changed, it just got worse.

Regardless, no goodbyes here, post and I will reply.

People who did have criticism or otherwise reacted negatively to Seddis or the goodbye note: (15)

Nightwiggler

Amused
Aranthallas (*)
lurkinglurking
Miraku
Narissa
Pro-man
Surgeon General

(*) Aranthallas is included in both lists since he liked Seddis the character but dislikes Rogue the forum presence.

When more than twice as many people have negative things to say about you and/or your character than have positive (or neutral) things to say, don't you think that's cause for some introspection? Think Occam's Razor. It could be the case that almost everyone who plays Carrion Fields is abnormal, misunderstood Seddis and continues to misunderstand Rogue. Or you could be doing something that gives them legitimate cause to not respect you.

Something to ponder.

Frankly, if it was half-and-half, I wouldn't consider that "normal". Most Battlefield threads are largely positive, especially of late. Even IC enemies often show up to say "I hated fighting you. Good show!"

That said, this thread is a total train wreck. I was out last night and I don't have time to pick through all the posts and clean up the mess, so I'm locking it.

Then when you post something as record-setting stupid as this thread, we could read it and say "Oh, never mind. He's probably high on paint fumes, Sudafed, smoked monkey turds, and licked frogs again. No one's that dumb sober." instead of saying "Wow. There's a record that will stand the test of time."

Seemed like a decent charater. You weren't lacking in RP, had heart,
but were maybe just a little misunderstood. Anyways, here at the fights
leading up to that last challege and fight.

Good luck with your next.

Didn't you (Rogue, not Pro) initiate combat? Even if we put all the other stuff aside (and I wouldn't), maybe he was going to tell you when he's ready for the duel.

I mean, I guess you can decide everyone else who plays the game is a horrible roleplayer and that everyone's #### stinks but yours, but as seen here, it's a frustrating as hell way to play. Just focus on making a great character and having a good time and let the rest work itself out.

Rogue, I'm not trying to call you a dirty crack whore or something. I'm just saying, if other people read your log and get the dude to be saying something different then you do, maybe instead of the only explanation being that he's a terrible roleplayer you might consider that there could have just been a misunderstanding.

I'm replying to the thread as a whole, not your singular farewell post. I've been here a long, long time and I might as well voice my opinion and perhaps offer some advice. I'll start off by saying that it would be a loss for CF should you decide not to play, since you are obviously a guy that likes playing and plays often and it's people like you that CF rely on, lest it decay into a ring of OOC connected people.

I've learned (sure it took me a while but) that there are and will always be a group of people willing to blow eachothers horns and bash the opponent. People who do polls of the best (insert class/race/etc) on qhcf, then follow it up with their own characters or characters of friends, who in turn back eachother up, and then criticise other people for not being on that list. There are people (a certain duergar shaman springs to mind) who live in an eternal dream of grandeur and constantly enforce upon others that they could take a level 15 mage (with no preps) and beat a giant warrior (with preps) and that they don't use preps because it would be too one-sided and boring if they did. My point is that you just cannot reason with these people. They will always have more friends to back them up no matter what the argument. My advice is to forget it. Just enjoy CF for what it is. Forget that you are up against a playerbase that is 50% comprised of arrogant arseholes and complete jerks (the other 50% are great). If someone acts questionably in game, don't let it eat at you or your character. Just fade into the shadows, become anonymous. You won't poll on anyones to 100 PK characters list, people won't know who you're playing but at the same time, people won't spam your graveyard with crap like they have on yours.

Now onto my two cents for the duel you had; I find it wierd that you'd ask a paladin to duel and then ask him to not use sanctuary. However, if you had both agreed to those terms and he broke them, then that is weak on his part, but you shouldn't let it get to you. Just say "Bloody coward, scared of meh axes yeh fargin' barstid" or some such village retort and move on with your life.

Anonymity is far more enjoyable than fame.

I'm sorry you got the short end of the stick. But I'm not sorry for your quit-logging-out-logging-back-pking attitude. You know it's not right, and yet you keep doing it.

One thing I've learnt in CF is never to question the Imms the first time I take a knock-out punch from one of them. Ie. If an Imm said I've cheated, 99.9% he's right. They probably were already monitoring me and checking the logs frequently. Stand up, shake the dust away and ask nicely how I can improve and learn from it. And never do it again.

No one likes listening to continued bitching that goes on forever. No one like hearing how much injustice you've received. And no one likes knowing how many past characters you've had, how many cabal leaders you've been, how many tattoo you've received.

Move on. Don't play CF while drunk.

I hope you can play objectively without seeing the game through a broken pair of specs.

As one religion put it:
"It is the things you do when no one is there to see that are the true measure of your worth."

And stay off drugs.

I did that once, and got an Imm-slay.

My hours weekday, after I got off work, I would long on 4-5ish, play till about dinner time, being 6, log out, eat dinner, log back in until I went to bed or on to other things. So I don't know where you are coming up with this crap.

Well, I was really looking forward to fighting you on some more 'even' terms. Ie me with full preps and you far faaar away from the village, the true transmuter kill so to speak :-) this didn't happen of course but that time we fought in the Chasm I really did have a/b/s demonstrating to me that I needed the scepter or a better situation to fight you.

That beeing said your arrogance and angry attitude were good components for an enemy, alas that won't be now.

Oh. And your patrolling of the Fortress when they had the scepter was really aggrevating.

Come back but drop the link-dropping, heh.

Far as patrolling the fort, people like Magrahk for example,
would never fight with me, or would only for a round or so then
run off pretty fast. So the only way I could really catch them
aside from bouncing ranking area to ranking area, was to
check the fort for retrievers, and I came close, granted he did fight me once straight up, but he did with an assassin and transmuter, and one of them died.

Part of me doesnt blame them for running like that, but if your going to play that way, don't talk #### like your a bad ass. Because I'm only going to make it a point to come after you that much more.

Anyways, yes, imho of my roleplaying the Pride sphere, was to be Prideful, in the sinful sense of the word, so I tried to display that as abrasively as I could with a pissed off mage hunting Svirf (reincarnation of Dhug) but I suppose next time I roll a character I should OK it with everyone else before I use my imagination.

Come back to cf but don't be such a cookie cutter, i can think of about 5 current villagers who had the same exact speech patterns. And in closing why fight you? if i start winning all you'll do is stun

I remember making my first character on CF, the first time I got into pk, you killed my newb ass twice and full looted, full-sacced my fine leather gear, then second my aldevari gear with a flee/knife thief.

Interacted with you a bit when you were playing Seddis, I pretty much had you figured for a total newb that lucked into a relatively strong combo and got all big-headed.

What makes me sad is knowing that if that's the case this probably wasn't some sort of a temporary phase you would grow out of, that's pretty much how you are, and will consistently be regardless of how many characters you play or how good you get.

Sucks to be you.

For the last time, try reading and UNDERSTANDING. He didn't say you were a thief. He said you were WITH a thief. If I knew HTML tags to highlight and flash the appropriate words in the above post, I would.

I think the majority of the problems you have with the playerbase and vice versa is that your level of reading comprehension is not allowing you to understand what is being said. You get frustrated and reply, then WE get frustrated and reply. It devolves into a flame war.

Read through a post and think about it for a few minutes before replying. Think about what that person is trying to say. If you need to, reread the post. Do it again. Then reply.

That's it. Nivek OUT.

Without going into a ton of detail, as a neutral third party who didn't interact with or watch either character a whole lot, I didn't see the agreement in question the way you did.

Seriously nep, you and I generally haven't had any conflictions before as far as I know, however from what I saw, (I'm more than sure you can history the log) I told him no sanc, I wont resist, he said where to meet, and show'd up with sanc.

Pretty black and white to me, but then again, i've said it before I'll say it again, there's no arguing with Imms, because they/you will do whatever the hell you want, and see it however you want to see it.

In response to Reply #26

Even if it was the agreement for no-resist/no-sanc, which I don't think was the understanding at all...

Even if. Why is *THAT* fair?

This is a problem I often had with Odrirg, before and during being Vindie.

People complaining that guards meant I wasn't fighting fair....while they used all of their cabal powers.

I can see it being fair, for you to ask for him not to use guards, for him to say "All right, you don't get truesight or resist or any other cabal powers".

But for you to say you get to you ALL of your class skills, and all but one cabal power, but he has to go without all of his cabal powers, *AND* without one of the most important class skills....

How....is...that...a....fair...fight? The answer, is it is not.

I have had the same problem with my rangers. People refuse one on one fights in the wilderness.

Ok, maybe it's smart for them not to fight in wilderness in a duel against a ranger, but that doesn't mean the ranger is a coward or not "FAIR" when he doesn't agree to only do a duel with you out of the wilds.

Out of the wilds, means he doesn't have camo, herbs, wilderness fam, ambush, camp, creep, waylay, pathfinding.

If it was fair, I would say to the ap (for example), alright, I'll fight you out of wilds, but you have to give up a skill for everyone I give up, to make it fair. No trip, bash, blind, sleep, curse, poison, plague, or energy drain. THAT would be a fair fight.

If you are always bitching about others not fighting fair, why don't you ACTUALLY propose fair fights, instead of only fighting fights designed to give you an advantage or at the least leave your opponent at an extreme disadvantage*.

*not saying that isn't smart to do, but when you are vocal about wanting fair fights, it's rather hypocritical.

Not using resist means I take full damage.

Not using sanc he takes full damage.

I was also not supposed to flee/heal,

He can heal during the fight.

I was using class abilities, that
he happens to dodge half of if not
more by whatever paladin deal I don't
understand.

Guards, inthemselves are not so much a cabal power,
but a "killing" tool and "surviving" tool outside
of mano'e'mano combat.

For example, Every fight we had, he would rescue him
self out of the fight, and I couldn't even redirect,
I stun his guards, and he flees.

How is it supposed to be a fair fight if he is using
mobs to keep out of the fight?

Your generalizing this as two power vs power, when I am thinking
of it as more dam/reduc vs dam/reduc, and not that I ever would with a battlerager, but had I used a mercenary and done the same thing, I wouldn't have ever heard the last of him saying I need a merc to fight.

I saw it as being fair, and was very much so (maybe my editing sucks, I was drunk) under the impression he used no guards/sanc,
I used no resist, flee, bandages, and he shows up with a White Aura.

That's my perspective, I know the majority of people think I am an asshole, and I more than agree with you, however from the point of view I had for that one log in particular, your personal viewpoints about me don't change the fact he lied, as a paladin, but you are more interested in bashing me, then enforcing your own rp values.

And even this post, is going to backfire on me I am sure, but hey,
what else is new.

What I do claim, is that what I play, has my heart into it, and
I do my best to not hold back with what I believe I am trying to convey out there.

I also for the most part, try my best to adhere to rules, which Imms more than know this, but I'm not perfect, by far. And even I let frustration get the better of me a lot more than I would like it to, but my characters roleplay is always sincere in what I think I am doing, and that is probably why it pisses me off so much, when people claim them to be ####.

I think it's safe to say that friends IC of mine, enjoy my company from my slew of characters, newbies that I have gone out of my way to help out, show around, people I have done the same with as well for regearing, teaching them areas, and keeping it strictly in the grasp of the roleplay environment.

However..

I make a lot of enemies, because I LOVE to PK. The rush, the excitement, etc. So, being the style I happen to utilize, most of my enemies will despise me. I think that carries over OOC and even more so when it's tacked onto a OOC Persona that is disliked as well, and all the more makes the masses come down on me.

It's good to have someone to hate I suppose, and as much trash talking that I won't be around that I say, you and I both know this place is too real and intense to just walk away from. I will just have to try harder.

BTW, I don't get high anymore, that was months ago, still drink, but I'm off the drugs, and it's a start.

Good to hear. I hope everything works out for you. If you really need to quit the game for your own good, I wish you luck. I hope you can channel your intensity into something productive. You've had some decent characters that you've obviously cared about. To me, that's admirable, except when that intensity turns to bitterness. If you can keep the intensity and ditch the occasional bitterness, I think you'd enjoy your time here a good bit more.

Good luck

Okay, don't take this as a flame...

But, how hard is it to follow the ~few~ simple rules CF has, ALL the time? Saying you "try your best" and you're "not perfect" in respect to the rules sounds to me like "I cheat only sometimes". C'mon, man.. seriously.

Just don't drive drunk or something stupid and tell the officer "I usually don't do this, but hey, I'm not perfect" and expect everything to be better.

That being said come back and do another rager.. it'd be fun to talk #### to one of your characters then kill him

Believe it or not I've never liked your forum persona, but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised when I ran across you in game. Maybe I got to be the lucky recipient of your 15 minutes of roleplay, but for what its worth, I had fun.

I used to play this game for it being so strict in enforcement, it's over adherence to rules, etc., and I got an Immslay for "Avoiding PK' from someone I killed (*) in that same area without even getting a scratch, but because I had to goto bed getting up for work at 5am and dropped link, when even Link Dead in no danger to myself I get punished?

I looked up the incident you're discussing, and the Immortal in question was completely correct in throwing a slay in that scenario.

You attacked someone in the Inn, thus incurring the wrath of a bouncer. You fled, quit in the Inn, logged back in seconds later and immediately attacked the same person. You fled, and less than a minute later, you dropped link while injured. Your link had always been stable, and it certainly looked intentional.

The second rule of the game:
* Do not exploit Out-of-Character (OOC) mechanisms to create an advantage in the game. This includes cutting link or quitting to avoid consequences.

Not only did you break it, you broke it multiple times. The quit/login alone (obviously an OOC method to get the bouncer temporarily out of the picture) was enough to justify a slay.

I didn't deal with you that day, but I have dealt with you before, and my opinion remains that you want Draconian enforcement for everyone else, and special treatment for yourself. When someone calls you on something you did, there tends to be a temper explosion more than any appreciation of proper rule enforcement.

Wtf?

I have other characters that have witnessed my killing people in the inn, on Three different occasions, two mage/ one warrior.

I love waking up in the morning to see things don't change.

The Imm told me the slay was for avoiding pk, not for quitting out, which was utter ####.

Wtf? I have other characters that have witnessed my killing people in the inn, on Three different occasions, two mage/ one warrior.

At the point when the incident happened (evening of 10/16), you had attacked one warrior in the Inn before, and it didn't lead to a kill by anyone. Not that any of that matters, because running away and cutting link is still a rules problem-- you're depriving your opponent of a fair shot at tracking you down and finishing you off, which is why we were notified. Your attempt to lose the bouncer with quit/login was in addition to that.

The Imm told me the slay was for avoiding pk, not for quitting out, which was utter ####.

Either would have been justified. My point was that you broke that rule more than once. The Immortal in question noted both in their record of the event, however, which is supported 100% by our logs. You did the crime(s), you got the time. Nothing unjust about that, and one gold star goes to the Immortal who investigated and kept a tidy record of it all.

If you're going to accuse us of rules incompetence, you're going to need a better case than that.

Think someone could edit the rules a bit? Elaborate some. It seems some people arent getting it.

Back when i started playing and a few people ive watched being newbies, didnt really understand that part about OOC mechanisms and cutting link and quitting to avoid consequences. Im not saying Rogue didnt, im sure he knows them already. However, i think a few examples of rule breaking/cheating should be put up to illustrate the rules.

Put in there...to leave the game, use "QUIT" command. I used to drop link for like a year because I didnt know what the command was to quit

Maybe some more clarification on:
Like, when is it ok to cut link?
-when you arent in danger, havent fought recently, are way the hell out somewhere and dont have time to quit normally, work at home or play from work and stuff happens, have a g/f or wife that hates cf and drop link to avoid her screaming)

When is not ok to cut link?
- you fought recently and you cant get away from pursuer.
- tryin to avoid detection or attack (i have seen assassins drop link in drow city to avoid walking out and let the area repop at the same time when stalking/hunting groups there...LAME)
- flee/drop link in a fight to avoid death
- etc etc.

Does your character have a history of cutting link? Is it legit? (playing from work and boss walks in, working from home and phone rings, wife/gf comes in screaming about your CFing again...etc)Ive dropped link a few times with some chars because my work environment is quite unique.

That way players/newbies can see where they fit and if what they are doing is ok/bordering cheating/downright cheating.

Look what you wrote. Stop smoking the dope for an instant and look at it clean and sober.

Valg writes, "you had never killed THAT PERSON in that area (read: Inn)

You write, "I have other characters that have witnessed my killing PEOPLE in the inn."

He was being specific while you offered a generality. The same crap doesn't change all right. You have poor reading comprehension skills. I'd further add that you are too stubborn to admit when you're wrong, but I think a better case could be made for you being too burnt out to even know the difference.

Look up my PK stats on Faelir, Crendal, Huegyn, and Seddis when it posts.

How many people have these high number PK kills, with an ungodly assist ratio, and I do nearly All of mine solo, against a wide slew of foes.

I have given up trying to appease and find acceptence in the wallowing shark pit of CF players, because obviously you are either too immature to see what's out there if it's kicking your ass, or your one win over my dumbass drunken mistakes makes you think your some adapt/overcomeing beast.

Character upon character upon character I run into people that just make me feel so sickened OOC, by the way they handle themselves in game, and run like the biggest bitches of all the world, be I playing a rager w/o deathblow, a druid, or even an uncaballed.

I suck so much, but I have ratio's and tattoo's and leader slots at the ranks I got them, but I'm a cocky asshole because I'm proud of it.

Yep, go @#$$ yourselves, and have a nice day.

Yours Truly, -Rogue

The entire player base apparently engenders these feelings in you.

On the flip side, this char engendered OOC dislike from every player you interacted with.

Seddis seemed well roleplayed the first time you dealt with him. After that, he seemed like a petulant seven year old on a bender.

Sorry.

Yes, you are definitely immature. You refuse to see your own shortcomings, which are many and plenty. You have a lot of terrible characters built on top of a couple so-so characters. Get over yourself already. And if you can't, then maybe you should just go someplace else, and stay there. You have some learning and reflecting to do if you want to come back to the esteemed Carrion Fields and be successful.

My advise, just relax a little bit, and stop trying to be a boasting, know-it-all punk ass teenager. You don't know everything. And you do bleed. And you put your pants on the same way everyone else does.

Sometimes rewards are given by default I suppose.

You investigate Carrion Fields' robust helpfile system before choosing your sphere next time?

From the help files.

Pride The Sphere of Pride is one of the Lesser Virtues. Even when
defeated, those that follow this Sphere keep their dignity
and inner strength visible to those around them. The material
world has less importance than the spiritual when speaking of
this Sphere, as circumstance cannot lower value or quality.

Dignity is mentioned. Seddis had none.

I would argue that you were an EXCELLENTLY well roleplayed sphere vanity character though. From the helpfile.

Vanity The Sphere of Vanity is one of the Lesser Virtues. Self-
importance and self-advocation are products of this Sphere.
Whether delusional or lucid, the thoughts of those that
serve this Sphere revolve narcissistically around them.

Go helpfiles.

I remember being young (maybe 8) and learned that (some? all?) Christians (*) considered Pride to be one of the Deadly Sins. This confused me, because in other contexts, children are encouraged to be "proud" of things they do, encouraged to take "pride" in their work, etc. When I did something well, my parents would say they were "proud" of me.

Of course, the difference is the proportion of pride demonstrated versus the amount deserved, which is why we wrote helpfiles of the sort quoted. Nice citing!

valguarnera@carrionfields.com

(*): I don't claim any expertise on matters of theology.

especially if they cant win. Dont expect them to stay and fight and die unless its IN their role to do so. You dont know people's roles. You also need to keep in mind that people's general tendency is to WIN pk fights, not die like a bitch.

Ive run from people plenty and ganked them later, and I got used to the "In a fair fight ill kill you", "One on one you would die", "Coward!" Yah if you would tool me 1v1, there is no incentive for me to fight fair is it? (this by no means condones with 3v1 fort gangs)

You got nothing to be cocky about, sorry.

I offer you advice. You simply rubbed people the wrong way. I travel with very few people in the game, but every single one of the people I speak with, wanted you dead. Not because you had bested them in combat or were a challenge for them to overcome...they just didnt like you.

I personally try to interact and speak with most people in my range. Friends or foe. Probably just idle chit chat, some taunting, some compliments, general banter. Theres a few people that it is fun to get a reaction out of, and you were one of them...to a point. All my interactions with you, were of you bragging about tough you were or evening running down other villagers.

Regardless of that, I thought you were a tough lil bastard. I think you would have done some damage if you had stuck it out a bit longer and gained those last levels/legacy. Hope you had some fun out of this one. Take it easy.

I remember two, one was a dolphin I stood no chance against, who also had an eagle that outdamaged me even with my best set, so woppdy doo,

another, wouldnt come near me unless I was fighting a very tough mob, or several other people, and would teleport if I so much as entered the same area.

Sorry, no memory past being overly outgunned, or downright avoided.
