#35769, "Okay here's the Dealio!"
|
I had a trigger set up to kill "A massive giant" when I was playing another character about a month ago. Not the Village giant, but another one all together. I had been gathering coin and was getting tired of typing the same crap over and over again, so I had a series of Actions based upon walking in and seeing "A massive Giant."
I didn't realise I had written it to file.
That's why Skjarl dirted the giant when ever a villager walked in, it's also why he lost link in the middle of the battle with the guardian. Because it flooded my buffer.
I was so confident I was going to get in with this character and that happened. That's what I get.
I spent something like 40 RL hours out of his 80 hr life trying to attone for it, but to no avail. My own fault.
Vershelt, I just got the Impression you were trying to bait me into losing my temper, or just doing what Kastylln asked, but with no real intention of doing anything. What was I supposed to say? Whip me beat me make me bleed? Come on man I had been raiding and fargin with everyone coming when called, you name it, I was there.
I realize your character had every reason to be angry, but you the player should have seen that something was askew and could have work with me to at least give me a chance.
I have to look at my keyboard to type, so that was kinda crappy what you did at the gate.
What's odd is I tried to get another cloud warrior in before, and the veteran who waas talkig to me acted exactly as you did. Save he was a fire giant. If that's you, well crap man, that's just petty.
At anyrate, I new I was screwed, but thought I'd try to make up for it.
Then there was the Ordasen. "No."
What was that all about? How was that supposed to tell me the player anything? I really took that personally, like you said it to me the player. Did you?
Gerylanst. I don't understand how you didn't hear what I did, heh, I thought for sure, it was a good sign that I came upon those Amulets twice in a row.
Then you charged me for the Spider blade. Heh, WTF? =)
Ah well, you were decent to me thanks for your time.
I've been home sick with a fever, so that's why I was trying to solo a cloud Ranger. I was only going to solo until I had villager "Brothers"
Oh well, I know I didn't enteract much with people, and four Mob Deaths did me in.
I really started not liking this character.

If you use triggers, you are asking for trouble like the trouble you got. Honestly, stick to aliases.

I had aliases for my sights and protections and butcher, and those bothered me a lot, since I was afraid they'd fire while I was in PK.
I just had that one because the area I was in was typing intense and I was getting weary of it. Heh.
The first time I attacked the giant, I thought I had hit my Function key. I had the Scarab Guardian targeted from earlier. I scanned in and nothing happened so I didn't suspect anything was amiss. I walked in, Three ragers walk through and the Trigger started triggin'!
It was just a bad day.

The "No" was two fold chief
I really hate it when someone will see me vis and then instantly log off their character and on their second. Especialy when it is then followed by a prayer as soon as they log on. It is understandable to a point for those looking for empowerment but come on, please try to spend some time in the game before rushing at me. If I'm vis, I'll usualy be around for a bit (even if not vis). So...thats where one half of the "No" comes from.
The second part of it was you were already told what to do, by Kastellyn. You were told to get the approval of Vershalt, and the pray you gave (to me at least) gave the feel of you trying to go over his head and get in despite what was told to you. It was all in your hands, and I did not need to get involve in the process.
It really sucks when triggers backfire on you (As I've seen a rager applicant go to grab a return potion out of knapsack of someone he just killed, only to have his trigger fire to quaff it.) It wasn't something that would have kept you from Battle, all you had to do was to get Vershalts approal as directed. My No, was in responce to you wanting to speak with me on getting in.
Sooo, good luck in the future chief. I'm sure you would be fine so long as you check for triggers.

I should delete the Character I've got now because you know who "we" are?
I had planned on praying for you from the Bear there for a while. I nearly got killed tryig to find your shrine (By the Polar Bear ironically) so I hunted down a Bear hoping you'd make the connnection and find it acceptable.
I had thrown you a couple of prayers a note. I logged out because as sat bleary eyed for days in front of the monitor, waiting for the Commander to appear, or for something to happen. I thought of a new character I'd like to try.
I logged out, spent 10 minutes rolling a character, and 5 minuts running around before I saw you. 15 minutes out of 80 hours, 30-40 of which I was trying to make things right.
So what was I supposed to do? I have been at this for 4 days strait except for sleep. I was trying my damndest to get things right, and you think a simple "No." Is going to speak volumes to me?
Like I said in the original post, I just "felt" like it was personally directed. Guess I was right.
And hey "Chief", there isn't any need to be condescending. That's just crap.
I knew I screwed up, but I thought with an honest effort on my part I could expect an honest effort on someone elses.
Now I'm not even sure this is where I want to be--Again--.

Why? I really had no problem with the char (granted didn't really watch or interact with him), I just wasn't going to speak with Skjarl right as soon as he logs on and sends up a pray. The "no" didn't single you out as a player (though think what you wish), as many in Battle can tell you my answers are usualy short and to the point. but meh, whatever.
Second of all, there was no condescencding attitude in any of my post. You wished to know why I said what I did and that was that. I have no hate nor love for you as I don't even know your character (or you for that fact). If you get huffy about someone calling you "Chief" (which I call alot of people in my day to day work), then you probably should step back and take some time to relax.

It wasn't my intent to ask you to induct me first hand. I wanted to interact with you and see if there was any chanc of me getting in. I was afraid that after all the crap, No commander for days, that if I finally got in, you'd boot me for being a screw up.
I went to Kastellyn because he appeared so soon after I screwed up. I didn't expect him to write up a recommendation for me. All I asked from him was if he would keep the village off my back. Nothing more, nothing less.
And I saw you and I was thinking to myself; Ordasen is visible, maybe he is letting me know he's around. Because it was so soon after I'd logged off.
It's always been my understanding that Imm's show themselves when they want to deal with Mortals.

I do not want to say too much because my character is obviously still active but damn, I really thought you'd stick it out. You really took what I said to you last night the wrong way, and in fact in some respects sounded like you didn't hear me at all. I now realize that you likely just missed stuff because you were not looking at the screen while typing. (Tip: you really should try to learn to type without looking at the keyboard, you will notice a gianormous difference for the better in your gameplay and fun, let alone real world benefits to good typing.)
All I wanted, and all I was saying (in Vershelt-speak, I know) was that Veshelt had no idea what you could do to make up for having attacked the giant not once but twice. So, he said it was your job to think of something to do to make Vershelt like you. He said you should think of something, and go do it, and then tell Vershelt. But you kept saying things you did, what you'd already done, over and over. Vershelt didn't care what you had done, or "did" as he kept saying, he asked you to think of something you thought appropriate for the situation and then to do it and then tell him about it.
I had every intention of taking whatever you did as being fine, assuming it wasn't something stupid like buying five jerkys, and giving you the thumbs up for the village. You obviously were village material, doing a lot of defending and helping and everything you want an applicant to do. But, as you pointed out, I couldn't ignore what you'd done when you attacked the giant two times and had to go through the redemption process.
I'm sorry you deleted, I hope this helps somewhat and that you come back with another character you enjoy.

I was having a hell of a time.
I messed up my last name, and Immortal had to fix it. (Thanks Imm who did that.)
I messed up my war cry and an Imm talked to me about it.
Then Ordasen just said "No" and I felt pretty crappy.
And I had my forth Mob death and it was taking me like three hours to rank as it was, and I just had enough.
I figured I'd start anew, because I has screwed this up so bad.
Thanks for clarifying things for me.
FWIW, I don't feel like it's okay for people to pick their own punishments. I tried to throw a few hints out that I should be made a healer, and work from that angle but noone ran with it, and I didn't want to come across as a begger.

It allows your character to demonstrate his or her level of remorse, whereas being given a punishment does not achieve this in the same way.

As a Manager, and a Parent, I don't ask my children or Workers to chose their punishments.
It would cause them undue stress. How bad do I have to punish myself to make Daddy happy.
Oh, no, I couldn't do that.
