I enjoyed playing Ambeena, but she never really took on the depth of one of my 'favorite' characters. I created her to try Maran and to try my hand at making a sucessful pking character. I felt pretty good about both of those things. Finding Shokai was trying, but once I got his attention things were fun and went smoothly. I'm sorry I never caught it again. I died a lot more mob deaths with this character than I should have. I bet I dug out of an experience hole atleast every other level. My low con, mainly due to mob deaths, is one thing that held back this character. Don't get me wrong, I died to plenty of pks as well, but I usually felt better about those.
I don't remember when I started this character, but it was awhile ago. I was only able to put in a handful of hours a week, so I didn't make lasting in-character relationships since the world was moving faster than I was. That was ok though, because I wanted to hunt and do a lot of my ranking alone.
I've got tons of logs with her, the best of which are posted already on Dio's as 'Goodguy'. If there's interest I might throw up a few more.
Here's my role. I'm not very proud of it...it was just a story to get the point across that I wanted into Maran. I played her such that she didn't have a sense of humor, nor was she very soft spoken or polite. Very short and to the point. Killing evil was a duty, not something she enjoyed. The last part of the role is to explain why I killed an elf (how the accident occured).
ROLE: Added Sat Jan 6 11:57:57 2001 at level 18: Ambeena was raised in a small settlement south of the Thalos ruins. She was the 4th of 6 children and the second daughter. Her father was a blacksmith, and with the Battlerager village so close he never lacked customers. Although not wealthy, she and her siblings never lacked any necessities growing up. Ambeena was always the quiet one of the family, but always doing at least her share of the chores and often more. Her two older brothers wanted very much to be warriors, and spent hours training with various weapons. Often Ambeena joined them in their training under the local warrior guilds members. In bouts where dexterity was a deciding factor she could always hold her own against her brothers, but the tides would often change when strength came into play.
Her family and community believed strongly in the gods of Thera and the children were taught to respect and fear the many personalities above. When Ambeena was thirteen, a traveling seer came into the settlement and visited each family (receiving a free place to stay and a good meal of course), to `read` the futures of the children. The old woman sat down before each child and placed a hand on the childs forehead as she stared into their eyes. The first three children had simple enough futures foretold. One was to be a warrior, one a farmer, one a merchants wife. When Ambeenas turn came it started just like the previous readings, but quickly the seers expression
changed. Her face paled as she quickly closed her eyes to break off the vision. When she opened her eyes she looked upon the young girl in horror.
"Blood...all I could see was blood. A blade moving almost too fast for human eyes to track and then her..." The woman pointed an accusing finger at Ambeena. "She was covered in the blood of those she had slain."
Assuming that the prophecy was damning, her parents quickly ushered Ambeena from the room and the seer decided to leave the house without her meal and warm bed. Her parents forbid her to practice with her brothers ever again, or touch a blade for that matter. Scared and ashamed, the girl agreed. She worked harder, stayed in excellent shape through her chores, and learned to read and study. She also became more and more quiet and removed from her family, as they all looked at her with a mixture of fear and pity.
Three years later, when she was 16, she was walking in the ruins of Thalos one day. A duergar battlerager, wild and searching for blood, crossed paths with the young Ambeena, and instantly decided she would serve as a fun plaything for a few hours before destroying her. Without thinking, Ambeena deftly avoided his initial lunges for her. Frustrated he pulled his blades and charged at her. Again, she avoided the blades and caused him to lose his
balance as they failed to meet their target. With a swift movement she sent the warrior to the ground and knocked one of his blades out of his hand. Grabbing the blade she poised it over his throat. Suddenly the prophecy came back to her and she hesitated. Looking down at the dirty duergar, who was sweating, cursing, and threatening her, she was afraid to kill him and start the prophecy in motion. During her hesitation, the duergar was about to use his other blade to strike Ambeena, when a golden dagger came flying from behind Ambeena and embedded itself in the duergars heart. Turning to see who had saved her, Ambeena saw a transparent, shimmering figure facing her. The apparition took the appearance of a young human male and smiled sadly at her. "The prophecy was true, my child, but it is nothing to be ashamed of," he said softly. "You will save thousands of innocents by slaying those that would harm them. If you had not killed this one, he would have gone and slaughtered the local apothecary tonight," he said motioning to the dead duergar behind her.
Speechless and confused, Ambeena followed the figures gesture and turned around to look at the duergars corpse.Embedded in the corpse was the sword Ambeena had been holding, skewered through the duergars neck. The golden dagger was nowhere to be seen. Quickly turning back around, the shimmering figure was gone. Shaking all over, she fell to her knees and didnt move for
a long time. Eventually she accepted her fate and left home, journeyed to Hamsah Mu'tazz, and began training as an assassin, dedicated to the destruction of evil.
Added Mon Jan 8 20:09:11 2001 at level 18: It was a crisp, cool day and Ambeena was practicing vanish in the mountains. She looked down to the valley below and saw a small figure setting up camp below. Deciding she'd go down and speak with the figure and find out his intentions she headed down the path. Walking along, enjoying the weather, she rounded the corner only to be hit by a sudden wall of wind.It blinded her with debree, and automatically she drew a blade against her attacker. She struck at...something...and then all was quiet again. When she awoke the corpse of the mage lay before her. She later learned that the mage was simply practicing his wind wall spell, with no idea that whe was even in the area...
