#16812, "(DEL) [NEXUS] Braoldan the Weaponsmaster"
|
Whelp, I'm by no means whining, but I just didn't get into this character like I have others. I got no "love" from up above, so...time to move on. Hell, not even a last name. It is disheartening when you put so much time into a character, really stick with the role (the quiet, loner role was REALLY hard for me to stick to) and then you see some rank 30 something nobody that can't be more then 30 hours old with a last name...well, it sucks. This character was very much so a roamer, a quiet monk, a loaner, and a fighter when he needed to be. Nexus just isn't what it was for me before, I really liked the cabal back then. All of that on top of the fact that I'm super busy with school, my girlfriend, work, and a social-life...well, I had to call the character quits.
Farewells: (I know I'm going to forget TONS of people, so if you feel left out, just let me know and I'll try and reply.
Imms:
To that Imm that hooked me up with the pkratio before I deleted, thanks.
To that Imm (who I think was Kas and Thror) that ran the Underdark thingy: Did you really expect a non-rager to win that? I mean you said don't help your cabal mates, but I was tag-teamed by two ragers. All they did was "call blood" and I was a goner. I mean one (for all intensive/powerwise purposes) uncabaled warrior to fight two thirsting ragers....yeah I died.
Vahlen- I really would have liked to interact with you, I thought the character was perfect for your religion. Another time.
Nexus:
Erinphalis- Guess we play at different times, too bad. I wish that tournament thing could have worked out, I was online, but stuff happens. Good luck with the whole Lord Elder thing.
Cusip- HOW ARE YOU STILL AROUND?!?! (never saw you with this character)
Kucerael- Grats on the Elder Magus thing and good luck. Sorry I impaled you that time you came to save me, I was kicking myself in the ass and banging my head against the table for doing so *TWICE*!!! Our characters just didn't get along and Braoldan just never wanted to travel with you again after that time in Kteng's. He just wasn't the appoligetic type, even if he did hurt your poor little gnomish feelings.
Punblinpo- Man were you a fun guy. Thanks for talking to me when I was just some silly applicant. Wish we could have traveled more, but like I said, I was a loner.
That croc/tiger whose name I could never spell- Stick with it. I was always glad to see you logged on, with those forms you sure can be a beast.
Sokoerker- Never really traveled unless you needed my help getting eq. Wish I didn't have to hear so much about your ganging ragers all the time.
Urzkoo- Beast. I felt really bad when you got assassinated in the Village, sucked to be you that day. You really are a beast though.
Battle:
Let me just start by saying I really respected Ragers. I can't remember a non raid situation that I ever attacked any of you with someone else with me. I hate the whole "Nexus = gangbangers" thing.
Gre- Damned you hit hard. I really respected you both as a fighter and a player.
Rhomelanthos- Another beast. Those unspeaks hurt. Well played.
Derduin- Respect. I couldn't believe you did as well as you did.
Broxx- Thanks for the interactions. Neat character.
Sayangu- Wish we could have talked more. You sure were not fun to fight. Assassins were pretty much the only thing I couldn't stand up against with any sort of consistant confidence. If you landed your kot/kans, I was out.
Wiglaf- Wish we could have fought more.
Darmok- You could be mean, but at other times you could be a pushover. I enjoyed our talks after you started the whole Empire thing. Too bad they had to wait that long.
Trylartin- Thanks for the fights.
Drahk- I don't think I needed "fighting lessons" but thanks for the fight. You really tooled me.
Sabiene- I really wish we could have fought. Knocking me out and stealing every single thing I carried really doesn't count in my book. I really can't think of a worse thing then having all your preps stolen.
Alarin- Accepting a duel and then pushing me down and stealing all my potions and such was really cheap. Hated the character ever since. You could have at least stayed and fought.
To those I'm forgetting, sorry.
Really that is pretty much everyone I interacted with in the life of this character. To those other few I'm forgetting, again, sorry. Write a little something and I'll try and post back.

Your description is: Dressed in a combination of protective brown leather and lightweight orange cotton robing, this felar stands very agilely at a little over five feet tall. Long, well-groomed black hair with small patches of white about his throat and stomach covers his entire body, yet his well-developed muscles are still very evident. The whiskers that protrude off of his snout somehow accentuate his shiny black eyes and moist black nose. His ears, one white, one black, stick straight up and twitch every so often as he seems to stay very alert of his surroundings. Strange for one of his kind, no tail can be seen sticking out from underneath his robes. Very well maintained claws slightly protrude from his paws and give hint to a more serious side, though he still seems very peaceful. With something obviously on his mind, he goes on about his way with a light-footed strut.
Your role is: Added Mon Dec 23 02:50:04 2002 at level 8: *some tattered scrolls lie here written by a source unknown* *which tell of the beginnings of Braoldan Snubtail's life*
Some years ago now, a cub was born to a set of felar-kind parents that couldn't have been happier to be blessed with the responsibility of raising a young one. They were completely and utterly in love with one another and had been trying for years to have children. Their dreams had finally come true with the birth of Braoldan. Extremely strange for one of his kind, he came out of the womb without much of a tail, which worried his parents greatly, but they never let their concerns show to their newborn cub.
Braoldan's childhood was very happy and his closeness to his parents was extreme, creating an awfully secure environment. One day while his parents were out gathering food from a nearby garden, they were attacked and killed by a group of masked marauders for no known reason other then their joy of killing. This conclusion can only be reached because Braoldan's parents had nothing as far as riches or spoils were concerned. Of course, the still cribridden Braoldan was left to die by these unknown pillagers. This part of his life Braoldan neither knows nor remembers.
At dusk, as is usual practice, the monks of the monastery went out to tend to
their gardens, however, they found something they did not expect to find, a small crying cub. He was taken back to the monastery so that it could be decided what the monks were to do with him and it was there that it was declared by the elder monks that he was to be treated like one of their own. He would be trained as a warrior-monk, to coordinate his mind and body to act as one, to balance his spirit, and to tend to the delicate balance that ensures all things exist.
Braoldan excelled at the arts he was taught in the monastery where he spent his youthful years and was lovingly dubbed "Snubtail" by his elders for his lack of a tail. Firstly, he was a natural at the arts of meditation, in fact, he spent his first few years in silence (and to this day is still very soft-spoken) in order to perfect his meditational arts and understand his inner-self the best he possibly could. Next he was physically trained with a wide range of weapons so that he could defend himself from an enemy attack. After he had mastered his defensive stances, he was trained in the offensive nature of weapon stances. Braoldan is always practicing and is in constant pursuit of his own personal perfection. He was taught by his elders that "practice leads to skill, skill to perfection, perfection to the supernatural."
As is custom in the monastery, he set out on his own to travel the world and observe the delicate balance for himself.

Heh, I liked Braoldan and respected him, and wished we had fought more than the two times we fought. You were a good warrior, but I never did accept a dual. YOu were spouting off, so I told ya to come out, and so I made your head hurt. Of course I'm going to steal magics from you after that. Also, I was more concerned with the head, than I was with you. If i had fougth more and tried to live out Impale, I would have died. I made the right choice, though you might not have liked it. Anyway, good work.

It's always a let down to lose a cabalmate that you like. I had a lot of fun interacting with you. Of all the seekers (not a slam at the rest of us so I hope noone takes offense) You were by far the most cabal oriented. It seemed that regardless of what was going on, you always wanted to be hanging with others seekers, even if it meant helping to rank others which we all know is the boredom fest of the century. I thought you came across really well as a loner sort, but still with a lot of dedication to the rift.
To be honest, I was a bit surprised you didn't have a lastname or anything since I thought you had a pretty distinctive air about you. In reality though, we all know there are tons of factors that go into getting some IMM love, not the least of which are time constraints and sometimes extreme patience . Sorry you didn't get into the character more. Still, I thought you did a good job.

Too bad to see you go. You're just about the only Nexan those Villagers ever quote as not a gangbanger (as if they never gang themselves). I didn't really see you about too much, so that may have kept you from getting a title if you weren't around at the same times the Nexus Immortals are. Some of it's how bad/good you played, some of its just random. Though seeing all your past characters, you're no stranger to IMM attention. Hope the next character works out for you. You really stuck to that language thing .
Take care

Braoldan was a great character, full of depth and life. Sadly, I've come to the conclusion that this doesn't always get your recognition from the higher ups. I suppose there is a pool of too many decent roleplayers for the Imms to play with, so quite a few get missed. I guess in an effort to encourage the newbish that seem to be trying hard to roleplay they sometimes miss indepth characters like yourself. You're right though, it can be disheartening. I met a few others like yourself while playing Punblinpo that were good solid characters with several hundred hours getting no "loving". I've had a character with a similiar loner role that went under radar too.
I see that concealed never improved for you. Sucks doesn't it? I think I only improved 7%, and that was with gnome int and using daggers most of the time. Suppose gnome dex hurt me though. Guess you need to be arial or elf-kin to take advantage of it.
I do have a question that I've had for a long time: What were your thoughts on Gough's "Dumb Blonde" title? I knew the character very well, thought the title was stylishly fitting, thought you roleplayed it very well when confronted about it, but am curious what you the player thought about it?

Yeah, concealed is hard as hell to make improvements on. At the beginning I didn't really use daggers all that often. I took the spec for a couple of useful skills and thats about all I used it for, pk wise. Towards the middle to end of the character's life, I found myself using daggers more and more to equip, explore, etc, just so that I could try and get improvements on concealed, but it never panned out.
As for Gough...well I'll start by saying that she was my first hero, ever. I knew how I wanted to roleplay her in my head (before we had roles, etc.) and I think it came out really well. As for the title "Dumb Blonde," well, at first I was really upset about it, but in reality, that was exactly her role, so I grew to love it. Besides Pohanad's title, Gough's is my favorate of any character. I'd definately say I had TONS of fun with her.
I really dug Punblinpo though, really. Time after time I'd find myself very impressed on how you handled the character in fights, etc. You did tons better then I ever expected to see a gnome warrior do. Especially after seeing Divox fight all the time back in the beginning of Nydeikon's life.

First off, I think you SHOULD have gotten some "love from up above" for your character. I'm pretty sure I know who that other character is with the lastname that's got you irked. It irked me too. I always thought you deserved SOME kind of recognition.
It's been so long since we went to Kteng's that I can't remember what went down between us there. Hell, by my recollection, it was all peachy keen, and hunky dory.
The first impale, I thought "ok...odd, but whatever." But then you came back and did it AGAIN? I was left thinking, "What the f*ck? Is he turning on me?!"
What was it that got you to do that impale anyway? Bad trigger/alias/macro? That's what I had to assume from an ooc standpoint.
You'll be missed.

Honestly, it was just a bad case of playing while tired and not "all there." I had "impale sabiene" all typed in for when I woke up, then you got jacked. So I had "impale kucerael" typed in to wake you up as I knew I'd wake up before you and I wanted to wake you up and thought I'd probably be fighting Sabiene while you were jacked, so that was the first way I thought to wake you up (stupid choice I know, but I was tired and not in the right frame of mind). So...I got attacked, thought you were still jacked and impaled you. Doh, then I fled, ran back in the room and typed 'i' and the up arrow wanting to bring up "impale sabiene" but instead "impale kucerael" was the last command I entered beginning with an i. ####ty I know, but like I said...I was tired and such.
Anyways, I enjoyed the difference in our two characters and how it played out. Thanks again.
Ryan.

I think one of our only fights was on the dairien road(sp?) I attacked you and thought I had you screwed as you were all beat up, you fled came back wielding daggers hamstrung/poisoned me at the same time and I crashed down hill fast. But you left most if not all my stuff and therefore got my respect for the way you fought.
Its a shame no one recognised you, but its all about being in the right place at the right time I guess
Good luck with your next chars, and maybe its time you came over to the villages side and help us

Yup, I had a tendency to play late and when I was completely out of it. Some other Nexans had just started a raid and told me Alarin was around, then all the sudden he was vis and you ran by. I felt like a total turd for impaling you (like when I impaled Kucerael). Wish we could have interacted a bit more besides that, but never really did save that really brief time in the Maus. Thanks for the shout.
Braoldan.
