Added Thu Dec 5 02:07:29 2002 at level 12:
As the tradition of his family went, Derdhuin Ca Redezor (so named because of the archaic family word for Kingfisher) married young as arranged by his father and, after his first son was born, went on to fulfill the rest of his familial tradition. That tradition, as had
been followed by more than 12 generations before him, is to experience the world and record his important lessons in a book. Only then would he be accepted back by his family with pride, and his sons and theirs below them would learn from him. As is the tradition, his family has gone into exile with his sons reading the works of his grandfathers.

While not the rule, the Ca Redezor family has largely been followers of Eryndorial and Derdhuin is no exception. He accepts the finite reality of his life and seeks to appreciate the beauty of the world in all of its forms. Embracing the heritage of much of his family's past, he eschews magic in all of its forms. He sees the use of magic as a crutch and could never be proud of himself should he use it. To this end he will fight, in a respectable fashion of course, to stop others from using it themselves though he realizes that ultimately the choice is up to them.

Added Thu Feb 20 16:52:25 2003 at level 51:
Years passed and Derdhuin progressed through the ranks of the guild. After defending the Village of the Battleragers for many years, he was offered and accepted a hut. Upon reaching his 51st rank, he joyfully set out to return to his family.

His wife, Serendhel, had taken care of his three children as was the custom. Approximately eight years after he had left them, one of his sons, Edendhre, fell to an illness, and the family stayed strong and a warm, loving family. His other son, Adenadhe, was now 14 years old,
and his daughter, Sanethen, had 11 years. The two of them bring him such joy and it was with great joy that he brought the three to the Village to live with him.

As Derdhuin had expected, the beauty of a mortal life was manifesting itself in the death of his sponsor Yogor, and the weaknesses of other mortals. He would have it no other way.

My role was based somewhat on existential and stoic philosophy. I really would have enjoyed being able to interact with Eryndorial, but I still am very happy with my guy.

Last death: Urzkoo was going to finish me off.

Sphere Reason and Orderly ethos, I just couldn't picture Derdhuin going into a 'berserk' state. He was more concerned with keeping a cool head and being able to intelligently react to things in battle. Another reason, I tanked for most of my groups (as a hth spec) until 41 and decided I'd probably get hurt more than I'd benefit from it. Plus, when I finally joined the Village, I got field dressings.

Thank you, everyone that came in contact with my character. As Derdhuin tried to express in his rp, I loved every minute of his existence, even the 84% (HA!) of the time I was getting my ass handed to me.

This is my first hero since Baekaelae...a cookie-cutter warrior during the reign of Istendil. I learned a lot, and enjoyed it, but I probably won't be back for a while. I made a weak attempt at getting a Con quest, but did not pursue it much and do not know if it would have been granted. The thing about this that is ironical (yes, ironical) is that I now have a boyfriend that actually likes to hear about my character and even enjoys watching me play at times. That doesn't seem to mesh with most of the stories I've heard from others!

I'll post my role and everything later, perhaps, I think I'll just get on to the "thank you" section.

BATTLE:

Thror, Kastellyn, Massive Giant and Destructor: Heh, I enjoyed your responses to the comments I would make about you accepting your duty as warriors to be slaughtered. I'm not sure if I ever actually spoke to a visible Imm of battle, and that's alright with me. Some had voiced their opinion to me that I was worthy of a lot more than I got, but I played only to enjoy myself and am proud of most of my character's life.

Yogor: Har! Yogor only Bird O' Prey! A very unlikely sponsor for me, but I really enjoyed you. Hope you had some fun with him.

Grogrim: I'm very glad now that you never actually asked me if I wanted to join the Village. The time you inducted me I was not prepared for it and was feeling rather lax with my rp. All of the sudden I was inducted and decided I would just go with it.

Gre: You, perhaps more than any other character made the end of Derdhuin great. You always made sure to compliment me and give me credit and respect, even if it weren't due in my opinion. Whether this was in response to a post I made on someone's graveyard or if you could just tell I wasn't very skilled with the pk, I thank you.

Rhom: I am so glad we went out together. I probably spent more time with you than any other Villager. I hope you had as much fun with yours as I did with mine.

Konrad: I think I've said everything I wanted to you in the game.

Sabiene: My character loved you for the most part, and I hope that my feelings as a player didn't seep through and affect the rp. I can't explain it totally, but there is just something about the way that you play that bothers me. Still, I think you are doing very well, and if you want me to go more in depth you can email me.

Rulghum: Hahaaha, remember the time with the paladin and Mount Calandaryl? That day was great....heheh, Flappy.

Broxx: Had some good times with you when I was younger. You were brutal to watch.

Alarin, Rhandax, Keovraib: I liked you guys, hope you enjoyed playing with me.

Vorsolic: I am glad that I found you (well, actually, you found me) before I died. I think you will do a great job with your character and were by far the best person for me to pledge.

NEXUS: I realize that my attitude toward you is shaped by IC policies, but half of you seemed rather petty and the other half I rather liked.

Erinphalis: Hey, sorry about that linkdead kill earlier. I should have noticed it, I just thought you were too confused by the blindness and my pursuit. I really came to respect you after the time I killed you in the ruins and you didn't call in any help. Thank you for that.

Braoldan: I enjoyed our brief talks with you. You always kicked my ass.

Urzkoo: I like you too, and wish we could have fought to the end. I still don't really understand why you run around with the others.

WARLOCKS: I didn't interact with you much, and nearly every time I raided the Tower I died. That time with Gre and the unghosting was a little sleazy, I'll grant you. I did not converse with most of you because it seemed the only time I would hear from you would be you either whining or calling me a coward or idiot.

Akriam: Hey, remember me? I really enjoyed talking to you when I was low level, but I ran out of energy for pursuing our talks and I don't think your rp allowed you to instigate much of that. I accept responsibility for that failing.

HORDE: I remember all too well how fun it was for me to run around in a big group crushing anyone that I could while being entirely safe. I don't really understand why people don't denounce the hypocrisy you demonstrate.

Thornarcrull: I hope I didn't sound like an ass. I wasn't trying to be so, just show you that if you wanted to be credible, you needed to have valid arguments for your Empire. I could have been even worse, but I realize that English is not your first language. One final thing: Haha, I got your mace!

I reckon I forgot someone, so speak up if you want me to say anything. I'll be happy to reply to emails, too, at lick0018@umn.edu

You stuck it out pretty well, and sometimes stayed for far too
long than I would have knowing the chances of survival in some
fights. Near the end you seemed to know a little better when to
run for the hills. Unfortunately being the race and villager type
that you are you were kind of easy pickings for me. Our only talk
went something along the lines of you calling me a coward, but we
all have our bad days.

Glad you enjoyed your character.

Heh, invokers owned me, and other than some shapeshifters, they're pretty much the only mages I fought.

I hate to say this, but I had an incredibly difficult time differentiating between you, Kucerael and the other nexus invokers. I'm not saying I got to know your rp or anything like that, it's just that I can't really put a name to any experience I had with an invoker.

I started running after the second time An Immortal made a comment about people dying foolishly. It was difficult for me to do so for a while; now I am ok with it.

Thanks commenting though!

It sure seemed like you had some fun though and yeah, you stuck to it. Good job with the character, very likable/respectable. I really enjoyed our interactions, talks, fights, everything. Sorry there couldn't be more.

Agh, the way in which you put me in my place with such ease was probably one of the things that prolonged my life. Whenever I saw people raid and you were standing there next to them I knew it was pointless and if I were alone (usually the case in these situations) I would wait for an opportune moment and then line up the commands to get me away from you.

Your compliment really means a lot to me, because I am sure you did not respect me because of my deathfulness.

Another good rager down. You played a great defender though you had a good teacher. I remember the fun times ranking up on the battlefield. I always respect someone who goes with odd spec choices, but I think I literally cringed when you told me you went hand to hand and whip/flail. You didn't do to badly with it. Only comment I would have made for your fighting style, was you underused stun and choke. Though near then end you started to do it more. You also made me laugh with all your throwing down. Anyway good work, and good luck with your next character.

#16035, "Crazy with the specs"
In response to Reply #9

I admit, some of the fun of Derdhuin was the fact that people were always confused by my specs. I went hand first because I don't remember meeting anyone that had done it, and I really hate being disarmed. Really. Also, I liked the thought of having so little weight (because of light armor and no weapons, little food) that I would be spinning all over, tearing my opponents to shreds (that didn't happen). I tanked nearly the entire time when I was ranking until I started going with the ragers, and even then I would tank often until I got doubleblock.

Stun and Choke I know I should have used more. One of the reasons I didn't use them much at the beginning was that once I had them stunned/choked there was nothing for me to do really until I got field dressings and strip. I would just sit there resting, hoping some of their preps would fall and they would heal faster than me.

I was so happy when I logged on and saw the new throwdown command. It was incredibly useful when I was blind because I could throw my whip and shield down and stun the person, waiting out the blindness. Plus, it was just really fun for me to see that I would grit my teeth and prepare for battle!

I remember that day. My link went down shortly after I got my ass handed to me in the Tower. In my defense, I'd never been in any of the new cabals until Derdhuin, so I had no idea what I was doing when I got to the Tower and Rift/Chasm. The Tower confused me so much, it still does, but I'm a little better with it after taking my time there with Gre. I knew when I chose to be a defender that I would do much worse against invokers than if I had chosen to be a scout, but I am happy with my choice.

Thank you for always bringing me around with you. I can't count the number of times I'd log on and you would be there, we'd group and run around frightening the others. We died together a lot too, so it's fitting that we both condied half an hour after each other.

Maybe it did, I couldn't tell that your character loved me. You always seemed to be very standoffish, reminded me vaguely of Darmok except possessing something resembling emotions. Now that I read your role, it makes a lot more sense, though.

I don't email other CF'ers as a rule, but I don't know that I need to know more regardless. I appreciate your comments though. One thing though... while I will not of course name the character, a long time ago we met, when I was playing someone else. You said something to the effect of you knew I'd go far, and I just have to wonder if my playing style bothered you then, too... hmmm

It was nice and refreshing to fight a rager who wasn't a cloud warrior berserker...even if you were a damned arial and I couldn't catch you in quicksand. Anything but deathblows hitting for Oblits through loads of preps! That time I appeared in the temple in Galadon and immolated you was probably one of my favorites. It was the first time I got my talisman to do its thing, and hell, the immolation even took hold

I was aghast the last time we fought, which was on Kiadana Rah. I think I hit you with four avalanches, and you saved against every single one of them. I just couldn't crush you! That was frustrating as hell, especially since you weren't hitting me for anything more than maim's hehehe.

Best wishes.

I was so annoyed that you got away. You have no idea how excited I was about killing an invoker for once. My crushing blow didn't lag you that time, of course, and you wimpied out. Gah! Too bad I don't have that log.

At least, I'm hoping that was you. As I said to Kaavraus, I had a hard time keeping you separated from the other invokers that weren't warlocks because I didn't actually rp with you much. It was more of me going "hrm...invoker hero coming at me...no one with me...I'll work my way towards an exit and if they attack me I'll stun"

That time at the temple pissed me off and it shoudln't have. The amulet thing was pretty cool though. I was all confused and didn't even realize that I was sitting there in front of you, naked (and wet).

Lordy, I came at you with six shields, flying, hasted, shield, and stoneskin...and YOU didn't die. That left me shaking my head. Four avalanches and on every one you save. Really, though, it was the two storm giants that were pecking me to death. Getting hit with six mauls/round adds up pretty quickly, unfortunately. You really didn't do much, except lag me with your damned crushing blows, and let the stormies do their thing.

Of all the fights that I worded from, that is the one I should have won more than any other.

Velen! Yes, I remember him. Ah, I had so much fun interacting with people, especially certain people like Velen as Alkagar. I felt so comfortable while playing Alkagar that I was able to easily describe a lot of emotes and was very warm and loving, which was something I lacked with Derdhuin and could have made his run even better.

I am very honored by your comment. Thank you so much.

Unfortunately, our playing times didn't seem to overlap all that much, so I didn't get a chance to watch you as much as I would have liked. That being said, the times I did get to watch you RP, you were very solid. I was a little taken aback by the 'family in the Village' thing at first...seems like an awfully violent place to raise kids, but I took a step back and put it into context with the violence inherant in our entire Theran world, and it didn't look so weird then.

I was having a hard time coming up with a con-quest for you, but one was in the works, and I would have pulled one out of my sleeve I'm sure. There are a lot of little factors that come into play with them, not the least of which is ensuring we are both on together during the key phases (usually the beginning and the end), and sometimes all the pieces don't fall into place until its too late. That's what happened here, and I apologize.

I'm glad your boyfriend liked hearing about your character. My wife just rolls her eyes when I even mention the MUD, and its nice to have someone to share your MUDding experiences with, even if its just to grumble about getting ganked again.

Hope you enjoy your break, and I hope you come back soon!

First of all, thank you for the compliments. I originally wasn't going to bring my family into the Village. I had planned to be asked to leave the Village on good terms shortly after I heroed and then delete, as long as I'd accomplished everything I wanted to do. Luckily for me, I had such a great time with this character and as a rager that I wanted to play as much as I could.

The con-quest. Thank you for thinking of one, and don't worry about it. It was bending Derdhuin's rp a little to even ask for one, so I didn't take any precautions to preserve my con.

Heh, the boyfriend. He wants me to teach him how to play (he's played other muds, but we all know nothing compares to CF!), but from what I have heard of others experiences, I think that might strain our relationship.

Anyway, thank you for your comments and for all the work you put into CF.

There is something in this game when people just know how to do what they do, and do it extremely well. You were a great defender on all levels. You were also an effective utility character to my big ugly axe wielding self. We worked extremely well together and you deserved all the praise you got from me.

It is rare to find someone that I mesh with/on the same wavelength and you were one of the rare ones that this happened with. Take care and good luck.

You did deserve all the praise I gave you. You were very skilled in your specs and you complimented my character well. You knew your own powers and limitations and your strengths and you were one HELL of a good defender. The kind of defender you don't have to ask for a bandage every two hours, or ask for a poultice, who is observant and willing to help. We were also on the same wavelength when it comes to pking and such. It is rare to find people whom you can trust enough not to instruct them on what to do, instead knowing that they will do the best thing possible and all you have to worry about is yourself. You were one of those people and thanks for that.

Again, you deserved all the praise you got. As to you posting on another person's goodbye, I don't think I even read that one, so I guarantee the compliments I gave you were not from that, they were genuine in nature.

Take care and good luck. Savage_Underdark@hotmail.com if you have any questions or whatever.
