I rolled a necro with the intention of becoming a wight, but I never got a clue on where or how and nobody I asked in game had any ideas either. Maybe a hint in the helpfile pointing to a hint in-game wouldn't go amiss?

One thing to consider is that there are only a couple places in-game where you find wights.

There are no mummies in the mummy place (all ghouls) You got to get all the way up to the lich in the lich place before you see liches (now it is all ghasts)
So expecting to look for that kind of undead to do the undeed is not consistant with what we have come to expect with the already established paths.
