I too was looking forward to playing with an active defender.
This build/battle option didn't work out for you?
I have found the slow leveling is more enjoyable to the burning up to 51 (unless you're a shapeshifter). Maybe this will work for you too?

I think I was doing well. A lot of utility. I simply don't want to play CF. So I gave a dagger to rohktiss and deleted.
