Chapter 3

The animated pumpkin followed him babbling endlessly about Evermoon hollow and
the river of souls where he was grown. This sparked memories of his childhood
from the orphanage about him being born near the river of souls and Evermoon
hollow and pumpkins, but he was in far too frantic a mess with the babbling
pumpkin and the Harvest Ball happening in just an hour. Rakkans went and
garbed himself in his pumpkin three piece suit he had planned far in advanced
of this debacle with the talking pumpkin who called himself Thistle. As they
entered the ballroom Rakkans noticed someone wearing his impeccably made mummy
costume and looking about suspiciously and repeatedly checking a pouch at his
waist. Rakkans went to the royal guards who knew him well by now and told him
he saw a man acting suspiciously and pointed him out and said to guard the
Sultan well this night. He didnt mention the strange augury of the future to
the guards. Thistle stayed by his side all evening babbling quietly everyone
thought he was part of Rakkans pumpkin ensemble, until the mummy made his move
and was quickly put down by the guards who were ready. The guards told the
Sultan that I had warned him of the plot, the Sultan had me come before him
Thistle at my side saying "We saw him try to kill you in the guts of a
pumpkin! The fates have intervened this day." Rakkans looked at the pumpkin
with near horror on his face as the Sultan shrieked in fear at a pumpkin
speaking to him. The Sultan declared that Rakkans services would no longer be
needed just get that pumpkin away from him.

Rakkans was a little despondent walking the roads of Thera with a strange
squash at his side when he came across an Inn decorated in pumpkins like it
was a patch. Deciding to rest his feet from all the walking he walked into
what seemed to be a costume party. He was elated he was still wearing the
same impeccable pumpkin suit he had been at the Sultans ball if it was a
little dusty from the road, but they hardly seemed to notice the small
imperfections. They welcomed him with open arms the moment he stepped foot
inside. He still had much to figure out, the river of souls, the guild of
conjuring, and what these auguries within the guts of pumpkins meant. But he
was home amongst others that sought greatness.

Chapter 2

Rakkans settled into his life as the Royal Couturier. After some months it
was a full moon ball in honor of the blue moon that occurs so rarely, a second
full moon in a month. This one truly would be blue as well which was
especially rare. So Rakkans began making a truly extravagant event. It was
outdoors under the bare trees with translucent gauze draped among the trees.
It started just before the moon rose with colored lanterns making moons of
many colors stride amongst the gauze. Right as the moon burned blue in the
sky the gauze went up in a flash fire revealing the moon in all its glory.
The fine nobles dressed in so many shades of blue it was like a river
dancing. The Sultan was so impressed he gave Rakkans the nameless a surname
and family forever known as Rakkans Moonstride.

No one thought Rakkans was strange in the metropolis of Hamsah Mu'tazz he was
eclectic or exotic in all his strange immaculate costumes. He began to feel
good about himself having already finished all the costumes for the Harvest
ball when the Sultan asked if he could help with carving pumpkins that the
other party planners were behind on their duties. He sat down and began
carving pumpkins trying to come up with interesting design, when one of the
Pumpkins sitting at his feet says I really like what you did with that one!
The knife slipping and cutting his finger as he let out a shrill scream at
being startled by a talking pumpkin. The blood spraying all over the animated
pumpkin in that moment reality jerked as two minds folded into one. Rakkans
looking down at the smashed pumpkin at his feet that he had dropped and saw an
augury of death and sorrow within the stringy guts and seeds of the gourd.
The future playing out before his eyes. Someone in his mummy costume he had
sewn was going to gut the Sultan in the middle of the ball. He knew what he
saw was a true seeing deep in his gut, but his mind reeled thinking he must be
going insane.

Chapter 1

Born under an auspicious or cursed time depending on how one looked upon it,
Rakkans parents were pumpkin farmers that found the best soil near the river
of souls within Evermoon. His father ran out of the healers quarters
screaming he had a son in the middle of a parade to death and the fall harvest
and fate. He was immediately trampled by the horses of the nobles. Being
such a small svirfneblin he was no match for the trampling hooves and was dead
before they could do anything. His mother bled out soon after he was born the
healers unable to staunch the blood. His name Rakkans was given to him by the
wood-elves. Its meaning is many fold and hard to understand. It could mean
fated, or the time is right, or the right time, or even used to curse the
fates. Though the wood-elves knew not what to do with a newborn svirfneblin
so he was sent to upper cragstone to an orphanage there.

Rakkans was always alone and isolated as he grew up at the orphanage near the
conjurers guild, it was as if others could sense he was peculiar and
strangely different. So he made costumes and used them to pretend he was
other people using lesser spells picked up from the conjurers. He would call
earth, fire, water, and air mephits to help him create the costumes he made,
because certainly that was far better than being himself. He could make a
costume of a king, soldier, gypsy, or mummy and be that for a while. His art
grew over the years by the time the orphanage kicked him out for being too old
he had started his life as a Couturier of Fine Costumes. These were to normal
costumes what a ball gown was to a peasants smock. His problem was the
Svirfneblin people were a serious lot and not prone to bouts of fancy. One
day the Sultan of Hamsah Mu'tazz passed by his shop on the way to use the
elevator. He was so impressed by his skills he invited him to Hamsah Mu'tazz
to be the royal costume designer for all the balls and parties. Rakkans
thought fate was finally on his side as his dreams were coming true.
