Chapter 3

Hylaphiinae mulled over her convictions after a recent incident that left
the blood of the innocent on her talons. She was inconsolable after following
Ios into the city which brought about the alarm of the guards. Her recurring
theme and vision throughout life was that her presence was meant to be a gift
to others. And that with her gifts she could also help others find theres.

But there was more.

Something righteous that scratched at her scales and asked her to do and BE
more.

She mulled over it in conversation with her dear friends of the fortress until
it finally clicked. Justice.
She was to be a vessel for justice- a clear penance for her wrongful doings.
To use her gifts in the pursuit of aiding others. Bringing justice on behalf
of those who cannot do so themselves. Being the avenger of S'ra. Not everyone
has the gift of escaping or overcoming a situation they find themselves in.
But my gift of shapeshifting. I can change my shape and become more
or less. Plant my roots and anchor myself to the lands or fly above them.
These are blessings bigger than myself.
A gift that will be used to bring about the gifts of others.
Such is my vow.
To be the gift of whatever an individual of light needs from me at the time.
Be it protection, guidance, or nurturing.

How interesting it was that the Conifer tree I now looked up to with wonder.
Was now the tree I represented. Granting hope, justice, and protection to
others who find themselves under my branches.

Chapter 2

"Twas the night before Yuletide
when all throughout the Land
Not a creature was stirring
not even a lizard in the sands;
The stars were hung
by the mountains with care,
In hopes that Yuletide soon would be there....
For Hyla she pondered from long ago come back
--people that are gone, dreams that have come true
And some that have vanished--
She was a child of the fortress now whose presence was filled with:
Love.
Light.
And Courage.

I remember meditating by firelight,
All of us squires snuggle up together, in our nightgowns of gold,
All ready for bed; the fire burning in the grate,
The Mistletoe held in the hands of the Maran,
The lights flickering on the tree,
Baubles of glass and glittering angels,
Items wrapped in silver and gold
And green and bright, shiny red.
All found in the chest with the Watcher.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a conifer tree and eight tiny reindeer..."
They beckoned to me from the Courtyard
To spread my wings and fly with them.
From a snow-covered ledge I took flight.
Until all the squires, the fortress, and the Maran.
Were all out of sight.
It was my mission, they said.
To share Yuletide joy with all.
From Darlyson to Mortorn and future Kingdoms to Come.
So we set off at night.
With little more than the twinkle of stars in sight as I helped them bring
Yuletide Joy to all.


When all was said and done.
And there was nary a bit of winter fun.
They returned me to the fortress with a wink and a smile.
To my surprise,
Hidden from my eyes.
Was one last present addressed to me.
Golden in color.


I opened the gift with nary a thought.
Jumping with joy at a blessing seldom sought.
Inside the box was a ball of glittering magic.
That zipped.
Dipped.
And dashed through the night sky.
Alerting the Squires and drawing their eye.
As the show drew near.
It became clear.
What the gift truly was.
My knowledge of form shifted.
And so did I.
Into the shape of a Leshendron.
A tree of Sra beneath-

Chapter 1

There was something upon the crisp night air that tugged at my sense of
wanderlust. Under the moonlight with fresh snow upon the lands-
I took time to drink in nature..
The crunch of fresh snow beneath my talons.
The way the tree tips kissed the starry night, dancing wildly with the shudder
of a breeze. I had never felt more alive, more thankful for the present moment
that was being provided to me. The gift of wanderlust and nature's embrace.

As I pushed past the shrubbery, I stopped short of the lake bewitched by the
sight before me. Only a mere yards away was a Conifer tree, standing at the
height of the giants of legend. And nestled perfectly at its peak was a
twinkling great star in the night sky. My eyes grew wide with awe- for this
surely could not be real.

The blessings of Yuletide before her she took the time to drink in its
fullness. For it was a custom lost to the sea snakes of her swamp. They found
such traditions shortsighted for beings who lived as long as they. But for
you- it spelled hope. Life beyond the ponds and lakes you had come to know.

You turned to leave with a sigh, recognizing you needed to get back home
before your presence was missed by the clan leaders.

It was within that instant that a jolt surged through you, leaving your heart
pounding and your equilibrium slightly off. The feeling caused you to turn
