Chapter 4

Iroenyphe went through the forms again in the chill morning fog, condensation
and sweat forming rivulets into her armor's underpadding. The lightforged
weapons left glittering paths in the mist. They felt right in her hands, to be
this close to Light made physically manifest. She had made a personal vow to
only use these in battle; mundane weapons felt almost... numb, disconnected.
Impure.

The Fortress was burgeoning with new recruits, and of course a growing
population was accompanied by a few pains. She had been horrified when the
Lady Azorinne herself had to descend from the heavens to admonish her and her
Squires, for the thoughtless beguiling of two innocent Darsylon guards.
Iroenyphe had been stunned nearly silent, but the flippant attitude of the
Squires had sparked a fire in her that perhaps had been dwindling away. And
the stern admonishment she had been obligated to deliver had only stoked that
fire - not quenched it, as she may have privately feared in her darkest
thoughts.

These and other, less consequential dramas were banished when she was going
through her forms, though. A time for her.

Chapter 3

Hullo, brothers and sisters! As most of you know, Lady Baerinika offered me
the responsibility of Marshall of the Fortress, and I have graciously
accepted! I write now to describe what I consider my duties as Marshall, and
how I will personally fulfill those duties. I have talked to many of my Maran
brethren, as well as the leadership of our lovely Fortress. In doing so, I
have received so many good ideas! All of you are full of eagerness to improve
each other, my heart swells to near exploding!

In the tome The Duties of Leadership, within the Hall of Light, the
responsibilities of the Marshall are described as preparing the Squires and
Scribes of the Fortress on how to defend the Fortress itself, and themselves.
After a discussion with our esteemed Captain Coqui, we believe this also
relates to the general morale of the Fortress.

First, I want to describe how I will evaluate pledged candidates to the
Brigade. I know in the past that we have required pledges to be bloodied
before they become Squires. Coqui has not required that, and I will not
either. However, I will require pledges to receive at least one
recommendation from a Maran. This recommendation should be well thought out,
and come from a place of mentorship. For example, with a recent pledge, I
taught and led them where to get poppy juice and explained what it does. This
seems like basic knowledge to many of us, and because we think that we often
forget to share it. And it's easy to do! Who doesn't like a swim across the
sea with a new pledge?!

Second, after many conversations and some inspiration from the fundraiser last
elven night, I will be hosting sparring and trainings sessions! Each of these
will be scheduled with a missive, and I will try to vary the times so everyone
gets a chance to attend. The first one will be this Sunday as the elves tell
time. I will send a separate missive to describe this training, but the first
topic will be how to fight those of my guild, naturally!

Lastly, I am going to strive to always be accessible. If you do not run into
me and want to chat, give me advice, or just complain about your latest fall,
please send me a missive! I love missives, and I will try to arrange a time
for us to speak for whenever you're awake.


I love you all. Each of you strengthen the Light with your presence. We will
push the Darkness back, because we have hope and they do not.

Chapter 2

Iroenyphe bent over the parchment, her tongue sticking out one side of her
mouth, penning missives for her Fortress brethren.

Her, the Marshall! Was this enough? Wanting, trying to better? She was not the
most accomplished assassin in the guild, nor even the most tempered assassin
of the Fortress. But she had been given this responsibility by Baerinika, and
by the Gods she meant to do give it her all.

She stood up and stretched, her back cracking from sitting too long. Taking
out her father's pipe and taking a long drag, she wondered what he'd think of
all this. Her, a deadly assassin, now helping to lead the Fortress - the same
he had happily told tall tales about, around the fire at night. He had loved
those old stories, of knights taking the fight to the Darkness. Saving those
in need.

She wiped the mist from her eyes, and put her hand on the hilt of Darkbane.
For the Light. For her father. She would do this. Would there be trouble along
the way? Always. But she meant to face it with bravery and conviction.

Chapter 1

THE 50 HOUR MARK !!

Background:

Iroenyphe was born into poverty, and quickly orphaned after a hapless accident
by her drunken fisher father. Finding the Voralian orphanage too confining,
she became a rather poor thief for a gang of children beggars. This culminated
in a botched robbery - when the victim, a supposed rich merchant of Hamsah,
wrestled with Iroenyphe over her knife. After a rather chaotic brawl,
Iroenyphe arose in horror to find herself covered in blood, and her knife
sticking from the merchant's gullet.

That night, a guilt-ridden Iroenyphe was found by a mysterious, shadowed
stranger. It turns out the merchant had been an Imperial spy, and the Voralian
assassin's guild was under the mistaken assumption that Iroenyphe had *meant*
to kill him. They offered her a position in the guild, and being too
embarrassed to correct them, Iroenyphe became an assassin.


Traits:

- Iroenyphe has severe imposter syndrome due to the accident that preceded her
induction into the assassin's guild.

- Iroenyphe is unflappably cheerful, and polite - hoping to gloss over being
'discovered' as an 'imposter'.

- Iroenyphe smokes pipeweed regularly (a habit picked up from her
ne'er-do-well father), and is fascinated with discovering different strains.

- Iroenyphe has a fear of being underwater due to her father's drowning.
