Chapter 4

Shadows coalesce where Ghrudzar walks now. Who knew, the smuggler turned
bounty hunter would end up one of Thera's premier death dealers?

He had sacrificed and promised much to get where he is. He was the
Chancellor now, with all that entails. He has sworn his bones- for
Ghrudzar will die of age or battle- to Morius's shrine. Furthermore, he
has cut a deal with Mistrirn when his unholy weapon was...misplaced. And
the bones of all Ghrudzar slays are also promised to Morius's shrine.
These bones, will lay the foundations of the Church. And Ghrudzar is
proud of the hopeful expansion his life's work will allow.

However...as he continues to deal in death- and Ghrudzar is better at it
than he would ever have even imagined, his thoughts have gone elsewhere.
He had always felt a kinship with Rarywey- she is the only Celestial
figure he knows, who understands Death intimately. Ghrudzar, however,
always thought of himself as non-religious. But, as he continues to shred
parts of souls as he kills folk. He imagines he is shredding their soul
and then shepherding the rest of their soul to whichever Afterlife calls
them...he realizes that he is likely shepherding these souls into
Rarywey's own river.

Ghrudzar always thought of himself as too shallow to be of interest to
Rarywey. Not the deep thinker that her followers were, in his mind. But
as he comes across her more and more, and as he deals further into death,
he finds himself drawn to her.

Ghrudzar will reshape Thera in his image, or die trying. He is still a
bounty hunter, but beyond that he is the Chancellor. He commands the
denizens of the Shadow Plane itself in ways no one else could. And, his
bones may be spoken for, but what of his own soul?

These are questions he will speak to Rarywey about, when he finds his way
there. Ghrudzar may not ever be religious, perhaps he will simply 'have
some tea', as Lyeeth suggested. But, at the very least he is drawn enough
to take the plunge, so to speak, and visit the Goddess.

Chapter 3

Ghrudzar grinned from ear to ear as he passed a carved trophy of Arietta
to the bounty hunter in Arkham. Twenty five more gold coins were slid
across the table.

Ghrudzar was one of the Scions now, and the bounties were starting to
come in. Hell, they were even starting to come to him, which meant less
hunting on his part. He was enjoying his life. He had goals. Continue to
collect bounties. Live a long time. Etch his name into Theran history.
But there was more to being etched into history than simply dealing in
death and living for a long time. To that end, Ghrudzar turned his
attention to being effective, not just in the bounty hunting business,
but as one of the rare Scions.

Ghrudzar has begun to speak and weed out potential applicants to the
Chasm. Manipulating them, getting to know them, and ultimately judging
them while he seeks Chancellorship. There is another Scion, Olvidra, but
Ghrudzar did not see her killing Arietta and retrieving the Scepter. In
his mind, she is simply a periphery piece on this chessboard that
Ghrudzar is playing with.

Chapter 2

"And where do all the sins lead?"

Death, ultimately. Was the answer to that question.

Ghrudzar was in a dingy bar off the wharf in Hamsah Mu'tazz. Ghrudzar had
some fanatic priest of Morius preaching to him of the Church and the
Scions of Eternal Night. She was trying to hire him to join the Chasm.
The oddjob task of being a sword-for-hire. The bounty board was off to
the side, it's list long with various names. Primarily of Villagers.
Clearly the Scions and Bounty Hunting were not mutually exclusive.

Her goal was clear. She wanted Ghrudzar to pledge to the Chasm, join that
elusive, exclusive group and make sure that they were faithful to the
Church of Morius. It struck Ghrudzar as odd, as he himself, was not a
member of the Church. She ranted and raved about how that made him the
perfect agent as the Chasm would never suspect a thing. The funny thing
is, Ghrudzar kind of agreed with her. All sins did lead to Death. And was
the Church not built on bones?

Ghrudzar wasn't sure about the priestess' ramblings. It sounded like a
hare-brained scheme she had cooked up to save face from a prior failure.
He took stock of his assorted weaponry, wondering which would do the job.
Ghrudzar didn't believe that one weapon to rule them all was the best
policy. He liked a collection, to best utilize the tools of his guild. A
morningstar with three souls here. A spear with two souls there. The
weapons would come and go, Ghrudzar knew that. His plan, was the control
that came with accumulated souls.

Ghrudzar pondered this as he selected a blade of intense light,
originally from within the Shadow Plane itself. He roughly skewered the
priestess, taking the purse she was offering. Ghrudzar considered it
collecting his fee, he was already taking the job for his own purposes.

Chapter 1

Ghrudzar Strarzar came up from the depths of Aran'gird with only the
clothes on his back and a tattered rucksack.

He had been thrown out unceremoniously for running a shady smuggling
operation for contraband goods. The King had forbid trade to be done with
the drow of Teth Azeleth, a political powerplay to earn tribute and
concessions from the drow. But Ghrudzar had made a small fortune
smuggling the adamantite trinkets in from the drow. And then, that
fortune was stripped away when his treason was discovered. He'd had to
use that fortune just to get out of Aran'gird with his beard in tact.

As he explores Thera's topside, the constant warring factions have given
him a new business idea. No longer will he merely be smuggling. But he
aspires to be a merchant of death. If there's one thing Therans like,
it's killing. And Ghrudzar hopes to facilitate himself firmly into that
lucrative line of work. A secondary goal of his, is to become strong
enough to make sure that he never has to turn tail agan as he did from
Aran'gird. And so, he studies to take souls, to gain in strength in
immeasurable ways. To deal in death, and to use those he kills as
stepping stones to further his own power and strength.

Most of Thera's factions hold no interest in him. The only one that has
caught his eye, are the Scions. The power associated is attractive, but
more than that, the prestige and the reputation that would give him is
alluring. But he is confident that all things will sort themselves out in
time. For now he focuses on his craft, the bounties, and the day ahead.
