Chapter 8

*Lophiel sits alone in a simple room, gazing deeply into a small mirror he holds in his hand*

Lophiel says to a small mirror "Every artist requires a canvas, in one form or another.
As an artist is only as good as the tools with which they work, should
they use unworthy materials, they risk falling short of perfection. Thus,
there is only one worthy canvas for which to convey my art... my precious, my beautiful... my Lophiel."

*Lophiel traces a finger along the cheek of his reflection as he peers into a small mirror*

Lophiel says to a small mirror "Such paragon. How does one improve upon something so readily perfect?'

Chapter 7

Lophiel found Eshval to be rather exotic, a true one of a kind. (Much as he
views himself) Because of this there is now room enough in his world for her
and her "art". As far as how much room is still unknown, but nonetheless, she
has a place there.

Somehow Eshval inspired Lophiel to seek out the Heralds of the Eternal Star.
(Knowing he could never truly hold a place among Eshval's own, he decided
instead to turn to the Inn) Having gained a place among them, he sought to
show his appreciation with a small poem in her honor.

Lophiel, in one form or another, has always been obsessed with his own beauty.
He gazes at he reflection endlessly. His time spent with the Muse, and inside
her furnace, afforded him a new sense of vanity... a darker sense.

*A vision in Lophiel's mind*

The Tomb of Lophiel
Here in this desolate room where there are no doors, and no windows, the
ceiling and walls are wide and bare. Everything is smooth and completely flat
in a dark, dingy color of gray. No torches exits, no candles are burning,
there is no source of light within this chamber. As if it were a limb of the
floor, a solid stone block sits directly in the center of the room. Atop it
lies a man, he arms and legs stretched out, wrists and ankles shackled to the
four corners of the block. The entire block and the man atop it are engulfed
in a huge, mysterious black flame. The fire desperately, and violently trying
to lick the ceiling high above it. The man's body uncontrollably convulses as
he lies helpless within the fire. His never ending screams fill the air as
they transform from horrific pain, to hysterical laughter, and back again.

A man is here lying on a stone slab, consumed by black fire.
As you look at the man you see a beautifully crafted male human lying here,
bound to the stone slab that is now his prison. He is free of clothing and
lies helpless, engulfed entirely in black flames.

As you catch a glance at the ceiling, you look up in amazement as you realize
the entire ceiling is one solid, flawless sheet of mirror.

You scan about at the walls of the room and see they are completely flawless.
No cracks of brakes of any kind, as if they were one large stone. Upon further
inspection, you notice that they are completely covered by very fine and tiny
markings.

As you examine the writings you find covering the walls and floor of the room
in every possible spot, you realize that it is but one word written over, and
over, and over again. It is the name...

"Lophiel"

Chapter 6

Did I get that right, Sneak?

, he begins to dream*

Soft whispers echo through his sleeping mind

Perh-perhaps-when, per-when, sleep, when-you-sleep, perhap, dream-of-me, when-you-dream,
sleep-of-your-own, dream-of-me, mirror-less-hell, hell, dream-of-hell...

Lophiel stands at the Market Square in Galadon the Great, it's citizens bustle
about on their daily tasks.

As he tries to make his way through the crowd, people push and shove their way
around him, tossing him back and forth through the crowd like a common
peasant.

Lophiel is knocked to the ground in an attempt to force his way through the
crowd. The citizens continuing on their business as if he didn't exist.

Lophiel's mind grows hazy and frustrated. He staggers to his feet and races
off into the distance.

As he stumbles his way through the trails and paths of a dark forest, he trips
over his own feet, and splashes face first into a pool of bloody water.

Lophiel lifts his dripping head from the water and gazes down at his own
reflection...

As the dream begins to darken and fade, Lophiel screams in horror at what he
sees inside the bloody pool.

Chapter 5

Beauty to Lophiel... is Lophiel. His image is the manifestation of perfection.
This, of course, does not mean that Lophiel can not find beauty outside of
himself. It instead, means what Lophiel will see as beautiful must be twisted,
and dark.

Why Lophiel is attracted to the darker side of beauty isn't fully known or
understood, even to himself. It's always been this way, and he doesn't
question it. In his travels he came across a Dark Muse... the "perfect" being
to inspire Lophiel to create his own visions of beauty.

Like a single flower, growing on a bloody battlefield, the gruesome corpses
scattered about bring beauty to the flower, as the flower brings beauty to
them.

Chapter 4

As Lophiel struggled to find a suitable canvas with which to create his
artwork. He found himself falling short, failing one attempt after another.
Having promised his Dark Muse a piece, he worried she would lose faith in him,
and his ability.

To tide his Muse over until he could find the perfect' tools, he bestowed
upon her... his mirror. It wasn't, of course, just any mirror, but -THE-
mirror of Lophiel himself. Having carried this exact same mirror since the
very day he began his adventure, Lophiel was a little disheartened to see it
go, but knew deep down there was nothing more valuable.

In return for his gift, the Dark Muse passed along a gift of her own... the
perfect canvas Lophiel sought for his work.

Lophiel says to a small mirror: "As an artist is only as good as the tools
with which they work, there is only one worthy canvas for which to convey my
art... my precious, my beautiful... my Lophiel."

Chapter 3

As Lophiel turned his attention toward the Eternal Star, he saw great things instore
for himself... fame, status, renowned... all of which he would obtain through the Inn.
As time passed, Lophiel saw the pieces beginning to fall into place. As bartender,
people would come from all over to sample -his- drinks, to pick a favorite from -his-
personal menu. Naturally, Lophiel had become a name that every Theran, young
and old, would recognize. Content with his fame, Lophiel set his sights on a new
prize... High Herald of the Eternal Star. A prize Lophiel would grow to covet. As he
waited... and waited for the title -he- deserved Lophiel became jealous of the one
who had it. He took each opportunity possible to place himself beside -his- title,
and soon, the two became "friends". Again, as time passed, Lophiel began to
throw hints here and there and -he- was next in line.

Chapter 2

Deciding that becoming a man of the cloth would just simply take -too- much
time away from himself, Lophiel ends his prays to Marmaanth.

With news of the death of the High Herald, Lophiel instead turns his attention
back to himself, and the Eternal Star.

Chapter 1

In the world of Lophiel, there is little room for anything else. However, two
women have managed to make themselves a place within his world. The second of
these two women, Lophiel is the most unsure of. He still can not figure out
how she, with her chocolate curls and slipping youth, has managed to capture
his attention. Perhaps it was there time spent together when they were
younger, or perhaps it is her newly appointed status.

Naturally, Lophiel would assume himself perfect' for the job. If denied this
prize, his vain subconscious would instead cause him to be drawn to the person
it was given to... although to him, he has simply fallen in love.
