Zoel the Elder Changeling
DescriptionHere stands a tall, lanky half-elf with a huge, mischievous smile. He has a natural dark tan and has bright, beady blue eyes that twinkle in the sunlight. These brilliant eyes give off a slight glint that seems to show a more adventurous side to this rather tall half-elf. His long, light brown hair has the growing grey hairs of age emerging and is littered with the ocasional twig and leaf. His hair is tied back in a simple way, but yet stylish, at the same time. He has a short, relatively neatly trimmed beard that is slightly lighter in color than his hair. This athletic, sure-footed half-elf has a slight spring in his step as if he was on the verge of skipping. He seems to be very spry and sanguine, as well. Although he seems fun-loving, he seems to put great thought in most of what he does and is quite intelligent. But, he does seem to be very absent-minded and prone to forgetting important dates, even those with beautiful and salacious women. Despite any faults this half-elf may have, he is very handsome, even if he is somewhat unrefined and rough.

RoleChapter 4 The Fire Added Sat May 21 14:17:37 2005 at level 13:I seemed to forgot to tell you how I was shunned by my villa. Before I explain, I will tell you this not nearly as much as Lia, of course). After the death of my parrot, to prevent myself from mourning my parrot's death I had to find a way to amuse myself, or at least channel my feelings of hatred, loneliness and anger. I decided to create a firework display in honor of my beloved bird(she lived to be 45 years old, I forgot to mention). I needed a place to create and test out fireworks, so I choose the kitchen.I know, I know that's not the wisest of decisions, but I was young. I ended up setting the house on fire. Luckily, no one was injured too badly. I do have a burn scar on the palms of my hands(they were in contact with the fireworks) but other than that, no harm was done to a person. But half the house was burned down. The people of the villa decided that I was too dangerous to keep around, so I was expelled. is where my real adventures begin.

RoleChapter 5 Early Life Added Sat May 21 14:15:07 2005 at level 13:I, Zoel, have always been considered the troublemaker in my family. I was born second of five children and I was the only male. My father, at first, thank the gods that he had at least one son to carry on the family name, Turen. His praise of the gods soon became curses when I grew old enough to cause mischief. Now, before I go describing my trick, I should tell you about Lia, my pet parrot. She was given to me as a present for my fifteenth birthday. I am not sure why. Perhaps my parents had hoped that the parrot would distract me from creating any mischief, but they were wrong. I loved this parrot more than anything else. I taught her crude sayings to offend others. People could not hurt the bird because she had no idea what she is saying. I mean, who would harm a poor, little, innocent bird? Exactly. After she mastered offensive words, I taught her how to mimic other people's voices. It was suffice to say that she caused many fights. Sometimes, I wished to be a parrot. If I could be one, I would say crude sayings and tell jokes to provide entertainment, well at least for me. Not only that, I would not have to worry about any retribution. When I feel like it, I would mimic other people's voices to cause more mischief and confusion. That I can do for a lifetime. If things get too bad, I could always fly away from any trouble. In any case, I loved my parrot dearly. I think that there is a good chance you have figured out what kind of a child I was. I caused all kinds of mayhem and many questioned if I should be allowed to stay in the villa. I did have my uses, though. I found out that one can use a fish bone to cut things faster than a knife or a dagger could. Life was grand.I had a fascination with the ladies. Beautiful things, aren't they? The way they talk, walk, even breathe is just mind boggling. I don't know how they do it, but it certainly gets my attention. Hmm, I got off on a tangent there. Anyway, life was not always great. One day, at the local bar, where my parrot would say offensive things to people, someone apparently got truly offended. The human slew the parrot with his sword.I found out that this man was a paladin and killed the bird because it insulted his manhood. I was livid. My best fried had died an untimely death and there was no one to comfort me because the rest of the villa believed the paladin was in the right. It was just a bird to them. To me, it was everything. I vowed that I will train and avenge my parrot's death, who was much more than just a bird. I decided to dabble into shapeshifter magic. It only seemed fitting to kill the paladin as a parrot. But I also know that I was not the strongest creature(but certainly the most intelligent) so I must also rely on great power to get me to the point I need to get to avenge my parrot's death. I am extremely upset, though. Nowhere in my studies does it mention shifters of the air transforming into the intelligent parrot.I will continue researching, and perhaps the gods will grant me a way to transform into such a beautiful bird.

RoleChapter 1 The Passion for Birds Added Thu Jun 9 14:31:37 2005 at level 24:It is quite a task to create this menagerie, this collection, this haven, Zoel found out rather quickly. But he did not care. He was willing to spend all the time needed to create a perfect place for all birds. Of course, to do so, he needed to know the needs and wants of all birds. He wanted to make sure they were perfectly happy and content, and of course healthy. So, he took it upon himself to search the world to find birds, and take notes of them, so he can figure out their needs. But, he knew he will have to have some help, and he has asked several people to alert him, if they see any birds. But, it is not quick enough, not enough. He wanted this place to be created some time in his early life time, so he can take care of these birds, and enjoy them, and then train someone to take care of them just as well as he will. Yes, not enough, but he is quite passionate, and if one is passionate enough about what he does, anything is possible. But, he knew that passion alone will not finish the job, forhis legs were only so much, and besides he needed to learn how to fly, and quickly.Yes, perhaps that is the answer. If he can fly, he can see the birds up in the air, but, he will not be able to take notes immediately. Hmm, and Zoel is a very absent minded soul. That can pose a problem. What can be done, how can he find every single bird in Thera. And even when he does find them, how can he be certain that he found all of them? He can not.
Lord Arvam, yes, Zoel loved his teachings. Being passionate and indulging one self. What better way to live? There was not, Zoel thought. Yes, he will go to Lord Arvam, and show his passions, and tell him what he wants done(not from the Immortal, of course, for they do what they want, when they want). Lord Arvam, even if he does not physically help, he can provide the moral support(even without actually trying) when Zoel sees the embodiment of passion and indulgence. Yes, Zoel liked this plan. Perhaps Arvam can teach Zoel a thing or two, or perhaps something good will come out of this. Even if it does not, it was worth a try, yes, worth a try. Zoel will pray to Lord Arvam. Not only that, he will ask Arvam to teach him how to cook, for the cooking will be good for the birds(And of course the customers, for we must not forget about them, for they must see Zoel's passions, the birds). Yes, the Lover, the Protector, the Admirer, the Friend of birds will do this, for he knows that he must be willing to donearly anything to bring his passions to life, and he is ready to do so.

RoleChapter 2 The Haven for Birds Added Thu Jun 9 14:25:08 2005 at level 24:The more that Zoel grew up with the birds, the more he became interested in them. He owned a few birds, but the one that stuck out the most in his mind was Lia, the parrot. He absolutely adored that thing. He loved Lia more than himself and more than anything else in the world, and any who would do harm to her was automatically hated. He respected her for her intelligence, attracted to her beauty, and wish that he could soar above the lands just as she could. But, it could not be. How can he soar above the world when he was just a simple half-elf? A beautiful half-elf, yes, but nothing more. Yes, there had to be a way, but he was somewhat content with just taking care of Lia.Then Lia was killed by a Paladin. "A dirty, despicably, cruel paladin," Zoel thought.Who would do such a horrific thing and kill such a creature so beautiful, so pure?A cruel, cruel man. Zoel became depressed, for his beloved was killed. How can he go on with life without his Lia? Now, he had nothing. No ability to fly, and no Lia. He turned to magic, yes, to magic. For he heard of shapeshifters turning into forms of birds and the like. Perhaps he can learn how to soar like a bird, high above the world and see his beloved Lia up in the great, blue sky. Unfortunately, he quickly found that he had almost talent in bird forms, but he was determined to learn them, but it will take much effort for him to learn them, but he was willing to do anything to see his Lia, and anything so he can fly among the birds, for he was quite passionate about what he did.
Of course, Zoel also loved other birds, for they were all relatives of Lia, and any who should harm them who would have to answer to him, for he was the Lover, the Keeper, the Protector, and the Friend of the birds. So much so, he wishs to create a safe haven for them. A place where they can relax and be protected at all times, and a place where he and others can enjoy their company. Perhaps then, people will understand the wonders of such creatures, and learn to stop ridiculing Zoel for his ambitions. Yes, he must show everyone that birds are the best creatures to be around(well, as well as the ladies). Where was this safe haven to be put? Well time passed before he can figure out where the room for such a place could be. And after he became a Herald, to please the ladies and others, he realized where it can be. Behind the inn.The customers can have a beautifully created drink from the master bartender, Zoel himself and then enjoy the company of lovely, free birds. Yes, this is a must, nothing can be put in is way, even a lady. The lady, he would of course be cordial and be interested in being in her company, but she must not(and I mean, must not) stop him in creating his dreams: To fly among the birds(and to see his beloved Lia) and to create this beautiful haven for the birds. It is his life work, and he will protect all the birds to the best of his ability. It is his love, his duty, his wish, his passion....

RoleChapter 3 A Doctor's Opinion Added Sat May 21 14:26:40 2005 at level 13:Regarding Zoel: Zoel, in general, is good company. He is very polite and friendly and usually willing to help others. He loves jokes and talking and being social. polite and hospitable behavior is probably due to his noble lineage. He is from a noble human and a noble elven family. Because of his upbringing he is especially respectful of the ladies. But, he does have some flaws. He is prideful, but he would not make it too apparent, and he is quite fine with insulting others if it makes a laugh among an audience. The worse part is, though, is he has a mental disorder. This disorder only becomes apparent when he is aggravated or otherwise upset. He is prone to sudden outbursts of anger and, a lot of times. He seems to have a long standing hatred of paladins. This is not usually obvious, though, and it seems that he can be quite tolerant of others. I would say he is only hostile towards paladins only when he is aggravated or insulted. There is much speculation why this is. My best guess is that he may have multiple personalities. If this is the truth than his personality would be broken down into two(or perhaps three) parts wrathful, enraged one. Here are the specifics: His generally pleasant personality is friendly, fun-loving, sociable and even somewhat charming. He loves to joke and drink(and he is a happy drunk). He loves socializing especially with the ladies. He is a bit arrogant but still is a fairly loveable half-elf if only because he is tolerant of most and not easily offended in this state. From my observations, he is in this state a majority of the time probably because he does not anger easily. A second personality is speculated. It seems that this personality is very hard to get along with.In this state, he is just as arrogant but much more volatile. He is angry and prone to consider plots of revenge. This personality is driven by vengeance and the idea that he is always right. personality of his hates paladins with a passion and would do anything to avenge "his beloved Lia." Lia, I presume, is a fictitious character, which leads me to believe that he is emotionally unstable in this state. He is prone to sudden outburst of anger and violence: probably because he is easily offended and takes anything in the worse possible way. Even in this state, though, he is still kind and respectful towards females(unless a paladin, in which case, he will hold and indifferent reaction towards her, at least that is what I predict). An in depth study of Zoel leads me to believe that he is at least somewhat emotionally disturbed.I am not sure why this is but it is possibly because of some type of trauma as a child. I can assume that a paladin did something to offend Zoel, but it is quite possible that Zoel has exaggerated the impact of this deed. Zoel rarely exhibits the second personality but when he does, it is remembered by all who witness his fury and temper.
