Chapter 5

Everything was prepared.

I had the trust of the deformed water bird.

Morius asked me to taste her flesh. And how badly I wanted to feed off some
vitality.

She lay there sleeping. Recovering. Trusting the creature I became.
Underwater. Ah to sleep again.

What whispers remain of my conscience wailed in protest. Cried in its soft
voice that it was the frozen lake for those that would betray an ally in cold
blood.

But hunger calls. A path forward demands sacrifice!

So I touched her face with my inhuman claws to keep her sleeping, my
conscience still wailing in a distant corner of my mind, so easily ignored.

But somehow...she resisted the call of magical sleep...and then again!

She awoke and fled to the deeper waters to hide among the sand and muck.

I will never get another chance so perfect.

Will I get another chance at all?

Perhaps Morius only wished to see the depths to which I would go to earn a
place. To see if I would betray an ally that long trusted me for my own
purpose.

Perhaps, but for now I will continue to hunt until I am called.

Chapter 4

My hunger grows. I have fed upon so few. I have fed upon none of those for
whom I most deeply long.

For this my hunger drags me in my mind to ever more tenebrous depths.

The loathing for what I must do to continue along this feeble mortal coil ever
cowers in the face of looming hunger.

The conscience whispering in my ear ever more drowned out by the piercing cry
of need.

Is it cowardice that I do not end my life that the other children may live
their lives free of their hunter?

Or is it strength of will?

Ah...Is that not a wonderful thought? That I have one thing that many others
lack, that they might be envious of ME for: The unconquerable will. That I
stand in defiance of all that life has stacked against me.

Perhaps that is righteousness. Perhaps that is courage.

That I might never turn away from what depravities I must commit to sate my
hunger, to be free of this miserable lot in life, no matter how bitter the
bile that rises in my throat.

Though, perhaps, in the lonely dark, I might turn from myself.

Chapter 3

Krugnuk is gone. Was he ever real? Did I do those things on my own and
imagine his presence?

I have so many other half-memories, some my own, some clearly not. Living on
a farm, pulling life from cattle ready to be slaughtered. Living in a city,
observing stray children through bloodshot eyes, planning their capture.
Which is real?

But this memory was useful. A bit of praise and I got to make use of one with
such a...wonderfully vital body.

Why am I cursed with this state of being when others are not? Why am I this
empty shell?

I have dreams.

In these dreams my heart beats like thunder. In these dreams I roar and the
land trembles.

And then I wake to fits of coughing, my lungs filled with cobwebs, my heart
the faintest flutter.

I am tortured by that which might never be.

Is feeding upon those once-children my only chance of succor?

Perhaps I am simply too straight forward. Perhaps one who has suffered as I
have, and rose to true greatness through wit and cunning would see a path that
is invisible to my undiscerning eye.

At least the Goblin King might have once dreamt as I do.

Might understand my envy.

Chapter 2

Only fragments remain of who, or what, I once was.

I recall a young boy from which I had fed being led away from a burnt building
by a minotaur. Feldscren, he was named. My hunger had fully manifested at
that point and I had partially fed upon him, weeping as I did so, for I could
not control myself. I weep now, for I must continue what I had begun.

The others too. The children. Tristhana, Veldren, Ehrlon, Vrimold, Leopohl,
Nastrella, Ahrloire, Dollerveim, Andreste. I cannot forget them. Their names
are those my hunger has seared into my mind in an endlessly repeating mantra.
They will sustain me. They will finally make me whole again.

Perhaps another path exists. Another way to fill the infinite emptiness. I
would give of my flesh, my soul, to become more than the shell that I am, but
to look upon me is to know that I have nothing of either to offer.

I wish to be free of this feeble need to take from others to sustain myself.

I look upon those with strong bodies, strong souls, and am filled with endless
envy.

The hunger rules my life. I wish only to reclaim the sort of life that others
are born into.

Chapter 1

I was quite insane...For a time.

But my will is strong, even if my body is not.

I grew deaf to the maddening whispers...Learned never to listen to the lies it
spun.

Then, in time, it left me with a truth far more sinister.

Feed...or die.
