Lanathalis the Legend of the Battlefield
DescriptionStanding before you is a figure which stands just about six feet in height, though his body lacks any sort of mass. From what one can see, his body is well toned and defined with just a hint of muscles apparent beneath his garments. His auburn red hair has been pulled back from his face and braided to keep it in place, and looking closely one can see that it has been adorned with small beads from what appear to be bone. His face is void of any sharp angles, and would be called handsome if not for the jagged scar that runs down the left side of his face. He has piercing blue-grey eyes which have a slight almond shape to them, only to be offset by his pointed ears marking him of his heritage. His skin has a slight tan to it, as if he has spent most of his life out among nature, though it still almost appears to be smooth to the touch. His garments appear to be well worn and stained, yet they show that care has been given to them and that he takes pride in such.

RoleChapter 14 Purified through Battle Added Fri Feb 19 18:40:45 2021 at level 26:Screaming..screaming is all he can hear as bolts awake, cold sweat drenching his shirt. Another dream, but he had thought they had stopped. For it had been some time since he had such vivid dreams as this, and ever since he found his way to the forge things have been peaceful and right. Why now? What had happened to change such in his balance of nature?
Only now taking the time to look around, he saw that his hands were covered in blood and that the taste of iron filled his mouth. As he wiped his forearm across his mouth, thick reddish brown stains appeared on his sleeve. When had this happened, and who's blood was it?? Slowly the memories came flooding back of his last battle with the foul magi who mocked the forms of nature. A vicious hawk that shifted into a bull. It had driven him to his limit, yet looking off to the side he saw the reverted form of a human pulverized to death. Around the neck it appeared the jugular had been sliced to give back the blood to nature, as a thick black puddle of blood slowly seeped into the ground.
It had been said that Lanathalis sought to walk the path of a berserker, to seek purity in the blood. But something did not feel right, as he sat here recovering from not only his battle but his dreams. As he stared at his own wounds, he knew that he had found a small bit of a weakness in his own soul, that of his ego. That it was his ego that drove him to become a berserker and to show off to others, with only the true dedication to nature a second thought. Yet now forged in the battle, such weakness had been bled from his body and his own ego taken a beating. He was victorious in this fight, but he would have to take some time to recuperate which left the world vulnerable. Nature was placed at risk, so that his ego could be fed and had there been another magi with this one he would not have survived.
Placing himself upon the anvil, Lanathalis knew he would become something better, something shaped by nature. To not only be the wrath and hand of nature, but to be one who healed and returned its power to it. He would not be weak like this ever again, and he would not allow nature to be placed at risk. This..this is what his dream had spoken of.

RoleChapter 13 Onto the Forge Added Tue Feb 16 16:48:04 2021 at level 20:The rains fell as Lanathalis found his way upon the Eastern road, drenched and weary from roaming the lands. Body aching as he had been putting it through a strenuous journey back and forth across Thera keeping an ever vigilant eye upon the forest. Recently too many magi had found their way to the woods, and the signs of blight were everywhere. Yet upon seeing Lanathalis, they would flee and hurl taunts while hidden by magic. To no end, it wore upon Lanathalis, however he was winning. Now merely his presence was enough to drive the corrupted out of the woods, though he still wished to purge their souls.
From nowhere though, the winds seem to blow for a moment from a different direction then how the clouds were moving. Foul magic. Perking his head up, Lanathalis knew that it had to be an invoker to bring forth such chaos within nature. Gripping the shaft of his maces, his knuckles soon turned white and his heart was pounding. He was natures wrath and soon a corrupted soul would find his path set before his judgement. Arrogantly walking forth, the invoker did not seem to even wish to acknowledge Lanathalis as he stood before him. Ignored, seen unworthy by those corrupted soulsit brought Lanathalis back to when he was a child. Pushing down those memories he charged forth into the battle once more, this time he would not fail.
And just like that, there was one less soul to steal from nature. Standing there looking down, Lanathalis had thought he would find joy and pleasure in slaying one. Yet looking, all he saw was a poor weak soul lost to nature that had given into the temptation of magic. And as the magi steal their power from nature, Lanathalis once again returned their blood to the earth. As he walked the forest South of Eastern, his soul was ablaze in a passion which he had never known. Yes he had taken a life, yet he had given back two fold and found his purpose.
So he was quite shock to hear a gruff voice asking him a question. Looking up, he could see the figures mouth move, yet no words seem to register to him. 'Wha?'. Grumbling the figure grabbed Lanathalis head between his meaty hands and stared him in the eyes. Looking deep, they seem to find what he was looking for and he nodded at him. 'Your soul is strong and pure, come and join the village and find your family.' It feltit felt right. It felt as if he had known his feet would lead him to this path. It was only now too obvious once he was here, yet it was a path he had to find on his own. Giving his oath, Lanathalis gave his final pledge, a pledge which he would never walk away from.

RoleChapter 11 Horrors Revealed Added Fri Feb 12 08:36:51 2021 at level 16:'Kin!' proclaimed the Harbinger as he approached Lanathalis with a smile upon his lip. This instantly put Lanathalis upon guard, for this was not what he expected. Of course he was joyed to see another of his kin, yet that smile and his presence, it made the hair on his arms prickle. This Harbinger touted the noble cause of the Refuge in how it sought to re-awaken the ancient spirits of Thar-Eris and to reclaim the land in the name of Nature. Such words started to put Lanathalis at ease for this is what he had sought. This was the very thing which he had dedicated his life to, to regain the purity of life and the soul. Perhaps he had been put off guard due to how everyone else up till now had treated him and he was just jumping at shadows. It had been some time since his nightmares, and such caused him always to be on edge.
'Just pledge, and you shall understand' proclaimed the Harbinger, and every so slowly Lanathalis seem to relax his guard. Here was a new family, one who understood. One where he did not need to be lonely any more in his war against blight and corruption. 'Family' Lanathalis whispered as a small sad smile spread across his face. Seizing upon such, the Harbinger replied 'Yes, family! You shall find all here that will always watch over you!' The Harbinger motioning to the unseen to come forth, figures soon started to emerge. Holy Druids, warriors, ...mages? Wha...what is this?
Recoiling in horror, Lanathalis got an icy cold feeling in his stomach. Confusion set into the Harbingers face as he watched Lanathalis back away. Could these people not see the corruption within their own refuge? These souls who would defile the laws of nature in chasing the power of magic? Only now did Lanathalis truly start to look at the land around him, and it sickened him. Trees had bark stripped of them as if high winds had ripped through them, and grass had shown signs of frost bite. Frost bite in the middle of summer! No..no this was not a home for him but a nightmare born again. Fear and panic however soon turned to anger, anger at these wretches proclaiming to preserve and protect Nature while stripping it of its soul and life force. These "Outlanders" were just as horrible and fools to think they could use such magic without harm.
Fleeing from this god forsaken sight, Lanathalis rushed headlong into the thick brush. Not knowing where he was going, but he knew anywhere but there was an improvement. He would rather walk alone within the world then to corrupt his soul and blind himself to the source of the blight.

RoleChapter 10 Corruption Runs Deep Added Fri Feb 12 08:32:29 2021 at level 16:It was strange at first, as many people who Lanathalis encountered would give him scared looks and a wide berth. They would look away and quicken their pace, making Lanathalis suspicious at first for what could they be hiding? Yet soon it had become too apparent as to the reason why was they believed him to be an Outlander from this place called the Refuge? Truly, there were those who people thought he belonged with while never speaking with them? Perhaps they were a perfect place to start upon this long and dark road to reclaim and preserving nature.
Though finding them turned out to be harder then expected to Lanathalis, as any inquiry he made while passing through cities seem to gain him nothing. If anything, those he spoke with seem to look at him in confusion yet Lanathalis did not know why. Even at one point he was chased out of the city by a fearful crowd screaming about the horrors that his kind had inflicted upon them. Horrors? Lanathalis was starting to get an uneasy feeling about these "Outlanders", for what could turn such people against Nature? The very thing which gave birth to them and provided for all their needs? It was only through sheer luck did Lanathalis find a lead to his quest, for as he was walking upon an a road he found it to be littered with leaflets blowing upon the wind. Snatching one out of the air, it seem to proclaim a sort of call to arms for any and all seeking the Refuge. Finally, Lanathalis had a name and a source as to where to get some answers.
Yet while he would find the truth, his soul would ache. He had found the Refuge deep within the forest, though it took some time to get any to actually speak with him. Ever fearful of outsiders, he could only feel their presence watching him from the forest. It was to an elder ranger who emerged that Lanathalis saw his first Outlander. The Harbinger, or so it was whispered upon the wind by the unseen voices who watched.

|
RoleChapter 9 Awaken from the Dream Added Thu Feb 11 09:34:36 2021 at level 1:Her soft hand pulled back, Lanathalis swore he had been there and seen everything unfold. Those eyes filled with pity stared at him, and he knew the truth to things now.
Lanathalis knew now that he had been spared as a young child by this Dryad from the horrors of those magic experiments. Now thinking back, he could never remember actually seeing his siblings within the cottage or anyone else for that matter. His years there had seem like a fog, yet he had always been taken care of and now he knew by who.
Those 'dreams' which he had always been plagued with, were warnings from the Dryad about the dangers of magic corrupting and polluting the natural source of power within nature. Magic was just a mockery of Nature and the power which the gods have imbued it with, and for any to touch it would only corrupt nature in turn. How had his parents not seen such? How had they allowed themselves to be driven mad at the chance of holding the power of the gods? Is such a power worth sacrificing everything? And if such a power can be mimicked and stolen by magic, is it even something that should be allowed within the world? They had corrupted those of the wood-elves, a race so tied to nature their own bodies turned against them at such practices!
With a splash, the dryad was gone again into the waterfall, yet Lanathalis was not filled with the dread of his dreams. He knew now the truth and purpose for which he had been saved. Walking now with a purpose, he found an old trail which lead back to a place which he had known long ago. As the lush greens slowly turned to a sickly brown and yellow, he knew he had found the place. A blighted land stood before him with an old house falling down in disrepair. Bones scattered across the field, which he knew all well whom they belonged to. The stench in the air was putrid and vile, but he knew he had to do it. Setting to work, Lanathalis set the whole place aflame to burn such corruption. For a week it burned, while Lanathalis sat there and stood watch to make sure nothing unholy or un-natural sprang forth from it. And as the embers cooled in the night air, he knew that this was only one of many blights within the world. That one had to stop such things from happening, else the world would flow in the blood caused by these blights. Magic was not some boom, some gift given to the world but a curse. A corruption of the soul which must end. Leaving behind all he knew, he knew he would become more.

|
RoleChapter 8 Through the Eyes of a Dryad Added Thu Feb 11 09:33:24 2021 at level 1:Poor, poor child. From beneath the water she watched as the events played out, not daring to reveal herself as there was such a presence of un-natural abominations about the figures upon the shore. Yet as this young wood-elf was thrown into the water, she watched as dark shadows soon swarmed around him dragging him below. Well this will not do, she thought to herself and soon set about to scatter those shadows with a flick of her wrist. Floating down through the water, the unconscious body of this poor little child came to her. Touching his face, she spirited him away to a underground grotto in which he could breath. This poor soul will be a sacrifice it was true, but not to the monsters of which those abominations had worshiped. Singing to the poor child, she placed him into a deep sleep nestled in a mossy bed where he would be safe and protected. Able to dream a better life, free from whatever horrors he had seen till now.
Though the Dryad did not retreat from life, as she knew those figures would be the cause of great destruction and pain. How had such souls who were dedicated to nature turned their backs upon it to work with them? More so, why would a mother and father sacrifice their own children for the benefits of others? Mortals were socomplicated and she doubt she ever would wish to be one, yet she was curious. Ever watching from the waters, what she saw was such horrors as the parents and those figures abused the children over and over, getting them to try to use magic. Some basic magic was accomplished in turn by each child, yet this was only met with disdain and disgust as so much more was promised to them. And as they attempted harder and harder incantations, she could see each becoming weaker and plagued with illness. Could they not see this was not natural? Could they not see they were changing the balance of nature and corrupting the land in their attempts? Foolish mortals, why would they ever seek to control the powers of the gods and nature, when all they had to do was accept their blessing? Did they not know that such things were beyond their understanding and that so much harm has always come with such meddling?
Like beautiful flowers poisoned with a toxin, the children soon wilted and would rise no more. Deemed a failed experiment, those hooded figures sneered and commented upon the time they have wasted with such pitiful creatures. Disappearing though a portal that shimmered with colors of oil, the figures never once looked back at their work. The two wood-elves who had been left seem to awake for the first time in years and look about at the corruption before them. Blight and plague filled the air, and rot had taken hold of the land. There was no sign of anything pure and natural anymore and worse their children lay dead before them. Given in to utter despair, the mother fled off into the woods chased by the father.

RoleChapter 7 Lanathalis Ca'Valis Added Thu Feb 11 09:31:13 2021 at level 1:No, this was not a dream, well as much certain as he could be for he has had them his whole life. Though Lanathalis prepared himself as best as he could, he felt drawn towards the sound as ever. Finding his way through the forest he soon came upon a glade which he had known so well, yet different. The trees were the same yet they were not seeping blood. The water was not oily black but crystal blue which ran pure and cold. Raising his head up towards the waterfall, sat the figure he knew so well from his dream. Yet he had been wrong, she was not a wood-elf but a Dryad. A dryad with beautiful hair andeyes! She had eyes!
A sad smile upon her lips, she greeted Lanathalis much to his own surprise. But should it? This place, this woman has haunted his dreams since before he could walk as a child. And there sitting on a rock beside her was the book. But how could that be so? And why did this Dryad have such a horrible thing? Fear rose up in Lanathalis stomach that made him want to wretch, but the dryad spoke to calm himself and that she was there to reveal all. As he blinked, somehow he was now waist deep in the water with the Dryad standing before him. With that sad smile, she reached out and touched him upon the head and all his memories came rushing back.
Yes..yes! He did have four siblings and his parents! Oh how he had missed them. Strange now to ever think he could have forgotten their touch, forgotten their faces. That scene at the lake once again playing in his mind, yet now different. Lanathalis was not playing with his siblings when the hooded figures approached, but each made to sit in a line before their parents. Walking with them, his parents and the robed figures seem to examine and judge each and every one of them. Yet when they got to Lanathalis, the looks upon their faces was cold and reserve. Like a scholar looking at a bug which they sought to study, no emotion, no feelings behind their glare. As they spoke among each other for a moment, panic soon set in as his siblings were lead away by these figures leaving him all alone. As his parents returned to him, Lanathalis reached out his arms as if to seek comfort but it would be denied. His parents took him by the hand and lead him to the very lake which he had thought he fell into while playing tag, but there were no siblings. No laughter, no joy to be heard. His father picked him up finally spoke to him with his mother standing there. 'You, you are lacking any true spark of magic which could be nurtured. You are a blight upon this family and serve no true value alive. Yet your sacrifice shall please them, and in such you will serve a greater purpose.' Terror soon gripped young Lanathalis, his eyes growing wide as his father threw him into the lake. That lake from his nightmares, as he felt the hands grabbing at him, pulling him down beneath the water. Yet this time he would not awake.

|
RoleChapter 6 Revelations Added Thu Feb 11 09:28:44 2021 at level 1:It took Lanathalis several weeks to build up the courage to even look at the tome which somehow came into his possession. Pressed into the cover was his family's house crest, so there was no denying that it came from his parents. Yet how did he come to possess it? As if in a daze, he had wandered further and further away from his family's land in an Western direction till he had came to a river. Washing himself in it of the road crime and soot, it felt refreshing for once. As if he was waking from all the years of his nightmares.
Taking a deep breath, Lanathalis opened the tome and began to read what was written within. It was a journal of such, detailing the interactions of his parents and a group which they had come in contact with. They proclaimed to be of scholarly purpose only, wanting to learn the secretes of nature and the connections his parents had. For they believed magic and nature were connected and by working together they could unlock the power of the gods. Reading these words, Lanathalis grew cold with dread. Before him was his parents words written before him, betraying the very thing his family had been dedicated to protecting for generations. Magic and nature working together? How could this be so?
Yet as he read on, there were entries about how magic has always sought to mimic nature in every form. That the natural powers of the gods is what the true goal of magic was, and one only had to look at the basics of magic for such. Invokers? The control and manipulate that of the elements of this world. Transmutation? To mimic and mutate the bodies born of the gods wish. To either take form as an animal as a mockery or to change the very nature of ones body. Necromancy? Trying to unlock the very essence of life, for gods sake!
How could his parents be ok with such? He knew they loved knowledge, but could they have truly been so greedy for such? Flipping ahead he soon found further research and pages earmarked with his name..and his four siblings? Four? That's righthe DID have four siblings? How had he forgotten something such as this?? How had parts of his life get ripped away from him? Growing cold, he rapidly flipped through the journal reading what he could. No, this could not be. Test subjects to see how well a race born of nature could attempt to control magic? And his parents willing using their own children? But why? Out of disgust and rage, Lanathalis threw the book into the river as it was soon swept away down stream. As it floated, it appeared that even the water did not wish to touch it as it floated while most others would have sinked to the bottom. He did not know how long he had sat there staring at the river, but it was dusk when he had heard the song. The song from his dreams drifting upon the winds upstream from the river.

|
RoleChapter 5 The Corruption Added Thu Feb 11 09:25:17 2021 at level 1:Is that the smell of smoke? Opening his eyes, Lanathalis vision was obscured by thick black smoke billowing around him. How in the hell did he end up here, as he swore he had set his house ablaze the night before. Yet looking around, the familiar signs of his room soon came into focus ablaze in the light of the fire. Thrashing the covers off himself, he soon found himself crawling upon the floor gasping for breath and any way out of the house. The crackling sound of the fire raged in his ears, and the heat kissed his skin as he felt the hairs start to burn. Reaching up, he was able to find the lever to the door and barreled out of the inferno into pitch blackness.
As his eyes adjusted, he found that he was now within a cave as he could hear the rhythmic pitter patter of drops of water falling into a lake. Looking behind him, there was no sign that a door had ever existed, and all around him watch pitch black. As he hauled himself up, the pain of his blistered skin seem to sooth as he walked across the cold damp floor of the cavern. Looking up towards the roof of the cavern, it was a glow with insects giving off a soft light making it appear as if the night sky was above him. Such beauty was soon destroyed as he stumbled upon two corpses which were huddled together in a state of decomposition. Gagging, Lanathalis reeled back from such a sight and heaved nothing but bile upon the rocks. Yet he felt compelled to look back upon his gruesome discovery, as if something was pulling at his attention. Familiar brown robes garbed these two figures and they were adorn with each with a necklace of a raven holding the moon. A crest..the crest of Ca'Valis, his family's crest. He knew, he knew that these two corpses were that of his parents but how was this so? It had been over a decade or two when it was said they died. Yet here they were before him in a state of decomposition. Yet as he reached out to touch them, their corpses crumbled right before his eyes. Even that of the robes turned to dust and all was left was that of a leather bound tome which had charred marks upon the fringe. Reaching out, Lanathalis grabbed ahold of it and clutched it to his chest.
Cold drops slowly fall down upon his face and Lanathalis is pulled back awake. Resting against a tree under his tarp, he can see the charred grounds of where his house once stood. Three days it had been since he set it ablaze, as there were no embers or smoke from the site. Yet looking down at his arms, he noticed that his hair was still burnt and clutched within his graps was a leather tome.

RoleChapter 3 The Sins of the Parents Added Thu Feb 11 09:23:34 2021 at level 1:It was a bright day upon the shores of the lake, as he played with siblings while his parents watched from close by. It was a rare day in which his parents could relax and spend it with the family, allowing the worry and tension of life to just drain away in the sunny afternoon. Always quick and nimble, Lanathalis was always king of tag in which he would without fail dominate his elder siblings. With laughter upon his lips Lanathalis shot towards his elder brother intent upon tagging him and forcing him into the water. Yet a sound caught him off guard which caused him to come up short and trip over a rock which he had not seen. Sprawling into the shallows of the lake, laughter is all he could hear as he spit water out. Though it was not from his brother but from the direction of his parents. For now they stood there watching, with a group of unknown hooded figures by their side.
..this was not right. Where had these figures come from and who were they? He did not remember ever seeing them before, though his parents looked at them as if they were friends. Scholars they had proclaimed themselves, yet there was an ominous feel to them which screamed at Lanathalis' soul to run, get away. Screaming at his parents, they seem not to care as they were deep in conversation with these figures. It was as if he was not there! As he attempted to get up, yet Lanathalis found that it felt like he was moving in a gel of some sorts and that he was moving in slow motion! Screaming for his parents to stop, the same black mucus spewed forth out of his mouth with a foul acidic taste. Slowly the muck and gel griped tight upon him, pulling him under as he watched his parents walk off with these hooded figures, no cares given for their son which was sinking. The world was turning black as he sunk deeper and deeper into the mire, a burning feeling deep within his lungs.
Yet he could hear his brother call out to him, telling him to wake up. With a start Lanathalis' eyes snapped open, and he fell out of bed. His brothers voice, he was certain he had heard it but it could not be so. The room was empty and the door was secure, more so his brother had been dead now a few years. Even more confusing was the nightmare of his parents as he truly had no memory of them yet it felt as if he was there. He only had ever been told by his brother when he was younger that they had gotten sick and died, but his words had always seemed hollow. If such was not the case, what had his brother been hiding from him? Though it was all for naught now with Lanathalis now the only surviving one of the family.

RoleChapter 2 The Oracle of the Waterfall Added Thu Feb 11 09:22:01 2021 at level 1:Set out to explore with his childhood friends, Lanathalis soon found himself in parts of the woods which no longer felt familiar. A cold mist seem to almost rise up from the ground and a chill was in the air. Looking over his shoulders to yell to his friends, he soon found that he was all alone. He could hear his breath quicken as he quickly searched the forest and it appeared to be void of life. Not even the sound of birds or insects could be heard which had just been there previously. He had been in these woods time and time again, and this simply should not be here, wherever 'here' was. Turning to backtrack where he had came from, Lanathalis no longer could differentiate which way was which. Looking up at the sky, it had an orange hazy glow about it which seem to obstruct the sun to give him any sort of reference.
As panic started to set in to young Lanathalis, a soft calming voice could be heard singing somewhere just out of sight before him. Like that of the sweet call of a siren, he found his breathing returning to normal and his pulse calming down. It should not be this way, he should run yet his feet would not listen. Step by step he feels his feet pulling him towards the song through thick brush and briars. Cutting and ripping his flesh, he seems not to care, though his mind is wanting to scream out to stop. A small clearing opened up before him as he emerged torn and bloody, into a grove in which a waterfall dominated the center of it. But those trees, they are always the same. Ash grey in color with bark flaking off, the trees which have always plagued him growing up. Though for a moment Lanathalis is able to pull his eyes away from the trees and towards the voice which is singing within the waterfall. A female wood-elf with shimmering skin simply sat upon the rocks with the water cascading down around her. Such a beautiful voice, he only wanted to reach out to her, to touch her and to be enveloped in the lovely melody which she sang. Yet as he placed one foot into the water, the mystical figure turned her head towards him and her song turned to a wail. Where her eyes should have been, was only that of empty sockets with blood pouring down from them. Her shimmering skin began to peeled and flaked off as she made a move towards young Lanathalis.
His screams soon brought him out of his own nightmare, as his bed was drenched in sweat. It had been over a year since his last nightmare and he thought he had outgrown them, yet this was all too familiar. Though Lanathalis had never remembered that of the female before, the female which he could see when he closed his eyes. A beauty which had been ravaged and destroyed, reaching out to him in pain. Even though he was burning up and sweating, a cold chill rolled down his back causing goose bumps to form on his skin.
