Chapter 1

Dazan is one of those odd creatures who, deep down, is a spiteful and impatient person
but keeps up a relatively civil front. Hatred, disgust or envy could be boiling
behind his eyes the moment a smile crosses his lips. He hates doing that. He knows he's
charismatic when he needs to be and can sometimes appear warm and pleasant. But
he prefers just being if he can get what he wants.

After years of working as a Magistrate, the position of Vindicator was ideal for him:
Lone-wolf, and single-minded. He'd be feared and glorified, he thought. But the Spire
had stagnated around him. It was empty. No one was around to name criminals for him to hunt.
The Spire itself was weak. He offered to take up the reigns of the Spire as the Provost Magistrate,
which the Immortal Dalteric accepted.

Dazan regards this new position with a bit of spite, being less glorious in his eyes as the
flashier and more infamous role of the Vindicator. Paper-pushing and handshaking was never
his cup of tea.

Role

Chapter 2

Dazan uses his wits, along with his might, to win his battles, using the law
for all it's worth. He enforces it religiously and diligently, however, and
is careful not to let it appear otherwise. He is brutal to those who seek to
undermine him directly.

The way Dazan sees the world:
Civilization paves the way for the practice of art, the raising of
families and bountiful food. Law allows for civilization. Therefore,
as Dazan enforces the law, artists owe him part of the credit for their
art, mothers owe him part of the credit for raising their children and
every consumer within the cities owe him (and other Tribunals) for protecting
and accommodating commerce. The more who live within the protected cities and
follow his laws, the greater his power.

Chapter 3

Jagged rock erupts from the desert floor where Dazan was born.
His parents, merchants of Hamsah Mu'tazz, were on a trade route again. A near-bursting
belly wasn't enough to keep his mother from staying close to her husband. Perhaps it was
the shame.

It wasn't his child. He knew it, and so did she. It belonged to a faceless, and by
now probably lifeless, tribal marauder.

Half of her wanted to throw the bloody mess away when it came out. The other half knew
what she'd really do: birth it and care for it. Burden herself as she always had for
the men she loved. On a windy desert night, she took shelter in a shallow, rocky cave and
birthed Dazan, who screamed less than his mother did upon emerging into the world.
A gout of blood followed the newborn and didn't stop until moments before she
stopped breathing entirely.

Dazan took the surname Alshid after his simple step-father who raised him to be honest.
He apparently didn't do the best job. Dazan has grown to be a liar when it suits him.
He also trained tirelessly to achieve a beautiful physique. He charms and discards women when
he tires of them and became proficient with most weapons, more to impress others than
to defend himself. At the age of 16, he abandoned Hamsah Mu'tazz for the richer city,
Galadon, and discarded his family name for one with a bit more flair: Talshid, which
has an ironic double meaning in the desert tongue -- Anger and elegance.
