Chapter 2

Some years have passed since Zaol took the oath and gained two promotions to Imperial
Blade. So far the Empire has not been what Zaol had expected. Empire has many enemies
and Zaol has found himself with opponents of all sorts. Some of the enemies have reminded
him of the villains he fought in Teth. Dark and chaotic. They plot and scheme and have
no sense of structure or order to things. Two such dark ones later to be associated with
Entropy asked Zaol to learn and then not long later assaulted Zaol and the Empire. They can
not even tell who their enemies are.
Others from the forest are just as unpredictable and chaotic as well as being awfully
feral and have no idea about the truth of the world and live in some bizarre fantasy.
More run around screaming about mages in chaotic ecstasy and yet seem to Zaol
that their physical abilities are secretly magically enhanced. They have no truth.
And yet more fly the banner of the light, but have no respect for the law of the cities.
All in common, his enemies have no sense of order of things and seem to follow
emotional impulses that make their actions chaotic and more difficult to break free of their
subjectivity to determine what is true and what is false.
They allow their emotions to guide them to perceive causations that are mere correlations.
They build up a series of biases and use these to rationalise their previous position
with arguments that were not used originally.
They create an image of Zaol, his position, the Empire in their mind and then destroy
this straw image and pat themselves on the back.
To help identify, Zaol has discovered the shrine of Destuvius where he can acquire
the ability to detect chaotic tendencies in people. Zaol can use this to ascertain
his enemies or those he can not trust. Those that will be mislead by their emotions
and fall prey to fallacies.
How Zaol wished he could give his eyes this power back in the days of Teth and so he could
see which drow were conspiring against him.
For the Empire, Zaol has noticed certain weaknesses in some, even on the council.
But Zaol will not conspire against the council, it would like becoming what he most
hated back in Teth. The natural order of things should automatically weed out the weak
and reward the strong. Zaol hopes and believes he will be part of the latter.

Role

Chapter 1

Many years have passed since Zaol moved out of Teth Azeleth. His days spent in virtual
isolation while training, battling the mundane to achieve warrior perfection. But to
understand Zaol, one must know about his origins. Zaol was a son from the house of
Chumavh, a medium size house with entrance within Teth Azeleth, although not widely
known by other races. It was the third most powerful house. But over time, a rival
house that called themselves the New Third, was actually the 4th most powerful house.
They had their eyes set on the modest territory of the Chumavh house. As time passed,
the house of Chumavh began to crumble and the drow, young and old were dispersed
throughout the underdark. At the time Zaol was the defender, the victor and the
survivor of the house. The Third claimed his position and his noble house was false.
Zaol was well placed to be the Weaponmaster and if the house was to reclaim its glory,
the position would surely be his for the taking. This is Zaol's truth, his position and his
house position. Zaol continues to punish himself by adorning a small mithril pendant to
his broad chest. It is the emblem of house of Chumavh. The pendant continues to sear his
flesh as a reminder so he would never forget his true origins. Zaol has a distrust for other
drow. This distrust has grown stronger over time. His belief is that any Drow may be a
secret assassin sent to complete the conquest. Zaol learnt that the Drow run with subterfuge,
sabotage and spread falsehoods while in the pursuit to take over other houses and win the
favour of Lloth. Now that Zaol has spent time in the world, observing and training. It has
become time to make a decision about his future. Empire has appeal because he likes the
idea of "Power of Order", it burns like a beacon against all he desires from his home. He
likes that each sect has laws. How they put the sect and the empire above themselves by
law. Zaol could become a blade and the blade sect would not disappear, not be taken over
by a rival sect. For Zaol there was truth here. He could take position in the empire and while
he may not always hold it, the position itself would not change. It would be true. Power and
Order brings Truth, chaos is thus False. Zaol has considered that the Blade ideals, suit him
perfectly, anti-chaos and anti-subterfuge, order, darkness, power and truth.
Zaol has decided to take the oath.
