Chapter 3

Kadavarn has now spent some time as the Shadow Lord.
He feels very fortunate that whatever predetermined path that was made,
was one that was so beneficial to his lifestyle. His day now occupied by
various bureaucratic matter in running of the Shadow Sect hall.
However, the scars now run deep. Kadavarn has managed to survive
a great many assaults. Except for one particular elf. One elf continues to
wield some unspeakable great power, leaving Kadavarn lucky to escape
and not always. Now Kadavarn has devoted his research in to the
anatomy of the elf. Studying the location of the elven heart and which ribs
are in the way. With some failed assassinates on the Fortress Captain
already under his belt. His attention is now determined to get the job
done, or revenge, for the Shadow Sect and for the Empire.
The captain also managed to expose Kadavarn to an Outlander God.
By pushing his question of free will to Ergush. Interesting though
Ergush seemed to support the view of determinism. Such a matter
left Kadavarn feeling vulnerable. The gods remain his greatest fear.
for he can not hide from them like he can with all others.

Role

Chapter 2

Kadavarn is amazed to discover that the path before him has lead to his promotion to elite.
He was always going to be a part of the civilisation push due to the family he sprung
from and the zeitgeist itself. However, Kadavarn considers there was some luck in his
fortune to become an elite. But what is to come, Kadavarn is aware of the empty
Shadow Lord vacancy and indeed the High Priest and Dreadlord have been selling the
role. But the Dreadlord and High Priest, seem to think that it is a choice to influence.
Indeed Kadavarn has fallen in to the trap of faking his acceptance of free will.
Long ago he worked out that the belief in free will, however false was the norm.
But lately he has grown tired of commenting as so. But paradoxically, his choice
to be seen as typical, is not really a choice, but a result of the circumstances.

Combat with Outlanders, Scarabs and Battle Ragers has been amusing to Kadavarn.
He holds no fear as the outcome of each fight can not be influenced. He has
come to see his apathy as just another attribute and his survival and
close calls not sourced by fear but the normal process of fighting for civilisation and
consistent with the training in his path thus far.

In his thinking time, Kadavarn has been pondering more questions about the world.
Indeed, a great puzzle to him remains, do the gods have free will. Would the empire
gods choose Kadavarn to be Shadow Lord or indirectly by appointing a mortal Emperor.
Or would such a choice actually be a predetermined outcome. And if it was void of choice
could it mean that there was a subsequent tier of unseen gods that created the gods
we know. And perhaps further tiers of gods that created the gods that created the gods.
Such a reality would mean everything we know has been concealed. Kadavarn
is excited at the prospect of hidden layers of concealment and remains hopeful
that the path in front, furthering civilisation will allow scholars to delve in to these ideas.

Role

Chapter 1

Kadvarn blends in the street, in the alley, behind buildings and scrubs.
He hides in all sorts of places. Sometimes will step out and strike.
Others times, will wait, listen, follow and think.
But Kadavarn never makes a choice, he has no choices. He conceals
himself not because he wants to. Kadavarn has taken the bloodoath
to serve the empire. But he did not do this by choice.
Kadavarn glows with reddish aura when the detection magic is used.
He follows the law of the town, but both once again are not done by choice.
Kadavarn was raised by travelling scholars, mostly in the library of
Hamsah. This is where he learnt about determinism. Kadavarn
accepts that free will is an illusion. He considers two pillars of determinism.
The first is that everything is caused by prior conditions. It is impossible for
for anything else to happen. Kadavarn learnt how to hide in the shadows
not because he wanted to, but it was the only outcome for the conditions
prior, namely there were threats and this made him safe.
This form of casual determinism is well beyond Kadavarn's ability to make
predictions due to the massive complexity involved. But what he can say is,
all his choices were always going to be that way.
The second is theological determinism. The gods may sit outside the former.
Although Kadavarn is not entirely sure. Since there are many gods and
and it is hard to regress to the point of who created the gods of today.
Despite some doubts, Kadavarn is willing to accept the gods themselves
may have some free will, but mortals surely do not.
To even challenge the infallible nature of the gods does not discourage
Kadavarn because that is what he was always going to do. If the gods are
omniscience, then they know Kadavarn will be thinking this anyway.
If they are Omnipresent and omnipotent then they will either ignore him
or destroy him at their discretion. Unless they do not have free will either
in which case even less reason to worry.
Kadavarn is aware that his life, the events that came before mean that
he lives in the shadow, in concealment.
Kadavarn will promote civilization, will promote the Empire because that
was what he was always going to do.
Kadavarn hopes for the occasional wry smile while he sits back and watches
the events unfold before him.
