Chapter 11

Finally, a good magician found a book of spells of evil sorcerer. He saw that
spell "Hai-Lahv-U" in his case has had a very different effect. He realized
that the opponent wanted to save him. And then he wrote these words: "All -
one. Around the world there is no purity, no defilement. Good and evil - just
a figment of our imagination. Forgive insults, believe to loved, and remember
that all can be understanded." After that, the last wizard in the wild and
mysterious land has died, and his last words, as you know, opening only the
truth, so no one knew.

Old wizard has finished the story, and Mohanek thought: "Interesting, if no
one knew the truth of that last wizard, how this old man knew this story ?
And this spell ... looks like not a spell, it's very similar to "I-love-you".

Chapter 3

Even at Tir-Talath, Mohanek was under the watchfull supervision of parents.
Only by signing a fictitious marriage was possible to free from parental care
and receive education in the somewhere else (in that Hillcrest village
she-gnome were not admitted to higher educational institutions). There Rimpus
Taglesnort appears. It was a great vivmancer. His works were known in
Hillcrest and abroad, he is actively corresponded with Vorondel (Vivimancer
from Voralian City). Rimpus, wrote to his brother: "In spite of her
thirty-eight years, sparrow formed great, knows a log of languages, as its
own, and is still engaged primarily in magic, and has been held for
quazi-elements and complicated spells - works as an ant, from morning till
night, and for all that is alive, sweet and very pretty. Generally, it is

Chapter 4

Still need to continue education. The way Mohanek is in Darsylon, the famous
elven place, where she arrived in when she's 50 years. The news of the
extraordinary ability of gnomish student has flown small Darsylon. The life
of Mohanek in Darsylon is known from the memories of Tallanthalas (invoker
guildmaster). Tallanthals wrote: "All the professors who worked with Mohanek
came to the delight of her abilities, while she was very hard working, could
work for hours without leaving a table, do the repetitions of spells and
theory."
The fictitious marriage with Rimpus Taglesnort became real, and the
friendship turned into love. But Mohanek is a restless nature, owns
wanderlust. First in Udgaard, where she met with Gelhardinia, then to Arkham
and long long eduction in invocation school of Morrle, and finally her new
home great seaport Hamsah Mu'Tazz and its university.

Chapter 5

The news of death of her husband caught Mohanek in Seantryn Modan and
absolutely slay her (at that date she had some researches at Pryson of
Glymarach, flows of some elements drawed her attention). She spent four days
without a food, and on the fifth day lost consciousness. When a healer were
able to help her, then she opened her eyes, Mohanek asked a pencil and paper
and began to write figures, formulas and mumble spells. Mohanek, invocation
ghomish mage, has returned to the world. After this incident, she withdrawed
into herself and fell deep into magic study. Of course, she-gnome kept
conversation with some mages, but it wasn't like in the past. It's not only
magic itself attracts her, Mohanek liked to find some interesting things and
places and this desire more and more captured her mind.

Chapter 6

Mohanek spent a lot of time by practicing her spells, and after some
traveling, she found a quiet place in pine forest. That place was a village
where live hunters, glassblower, his apprentice and old wizard, who was
silent and sometimes sat near and look at Mohanek's improvements. Once, old
wizard rose, came up to her and suddenly began to tell a story ...

Chapter 7

One day, when Thera was still wild and unexplored places, when people still
believed in miracles, and men were men, the old sorcerer beckoned young
student. In his chambers reigned nice, but at the same time, a mysterious
shadow, and it has inclined to riddles and miracles. Sorcerer himself
reclined on a lush bed. It was clear that this man is very weak, and its
vitality is about come to an end. His student reverently knelt down beside
the bed and bowed so low that his forehead touched the floor. This young man
was young and full of energy, but the times were such that demand even
greater force. In the neighboring state was continuous war, and only by a
sorcerer somehow managed to keep the border.
- My student - quiet but hoarsely grand wizard began . - I am dying. The time
has come to take you away from me because the lord of the elements to finally
put an end to war.
- Master is full of strength, nor to the rush, - said the young man
respectfully, but even he knew that he said those words just for the sake of
politeness.
- Shut up, boy, - pulled his elder wizard. - You worked hard in order to
understand the science of witchcraft, and, I must admit, even achieved some
success in this. You're my only successor, because I want to tell you that
the spell that opens only on the threshold of death.
- What is it, Master? - Impatiently exclaimed the young man.
- Patience, my student, soon I'll tell you. But understand that I do not know
what will be the effect of this spell. Death may be a bad joke, killing
everyone with his magic. Be careful.
- Yes, Master - pupil humbly bowed.
- This spell ... "Hai-Lahv-U".
Apprentice just nodded, quickly writing in the book the spell of Master. He
returned to the old man, when he almost lost his life. In parting, Master
squeezed hand of young wizard, and then passed away.

Chapter 8

At the same time on the other side of the border, one old sorcerer just said
goodbye to life. He was lying on his bed and thought, how could he stop the
war. After all, if he can not stop it - King never stops, and both states
will be destroyed. He thought for a long time, until finally, as an
inspiration, it has not fell off the magic words. However, he felt that his
forces will not suffice for the creation of such a powerful magic, and
therefore asked to call his disciple. Student immediately came under the gaze
of his mentor, immediately fell to his knees and bowing. Young wizard saw
that the old man quite a bit of time to live, and therefore felt it on his
shoulders a heavy burden now lies - the fate of the mightiest sorcerer of the
state. But his strong young shoulders were ready.
- My student - began old wizard by calm and measured voice. - You see that
life is leaving me, but the war is going. I myself will not be able to stop
it. You did.
- Once my Master could not, and I do not have the strength - politely
answered student, secretly hoping that he was wrong.
- Do not try to fool me by false modesty - strictly old wizard responsed. - I
know the spell, which can handle only you, because you are the most powerful
of my students. You surpass me, my student, just because I brought you this.
Stop the war, because your mouth will be the greatest force. But, my friend,
this power can be a dangerous one, because I did not feel the spell and do
not know how it will act.
- Allow me to be worthy of any student - student replied respectfully. - What
kind of spell?
- Write down and never forget. It is pronounced very simple, like this:
"Hai-Lahv-U".
Apprentice nodded, carefully writes the character in the book of spells. When
he finished and turned to say goodbye to his Master, old wizard was already
dead.

Chapter 9

Several years after the death of his Master, the boy-wizard decided to go on
a fishing trip out of the city to experience the spell. Catch enough fish, he
cleared his mind and said the magic words. When he returned to his castle, it
was found that all the inhabitants of a nearby village died from an unknown
illness. Since in this state the spell "Hai-Lahv-U" was seen as bringing
trouble, misery and evil.

At the same time, another young wizard also decided to try a new spell. For
this, he went into the forest, far away from the city. Gather up enough herbs
for his potions, he outlined a protective circle around him and said the
magic words. On his return to the castle, he learned that all the wounded in
war miraculously healed. And since then, the spell "Hai-Lahv-U" was seen as a
sign of light and love that brings joy and happiness.

Chapter 10

Some time later, two armies clashed on the border. The outcome of the battle
was to decide the fight of the two strongest mages of both countries, so that
both young men were forced to mate for life and death. When first received
strong wounds in battle, the other decided to take pity on him, because goal
of wizards was the peace and prosperity of both countries. He outlined his
opponent around the protective circle and cast a spell, "Hai-Lahv-U". The
first magician heared the words that are considered harbingers of trouble in
his country and began to fight again. He defeated the enemy, because wizard,
who outlined the protection circle did not expect an attack from behind, on
the sly. Since the first state captured second. That wizard that tried to
save his opponent with "Hai-Lahv-U" was named villain, from which people
saved hero, the liberator, the first sorcerer, kinder which have not yet seen
the whole Thera.

Chapter 12

During travels, Mohanek has found an old book. Almost all pages there
were dissolved into dust but some of them she-gnome could build into whole
story.

Red glow of sunset played on the rocks. The last ray of the sun lingered on
the horizon and, slipping a golden glow on the trees disappeared into the
blue twilight. In the mountains, in a forest clearing, a large fire was
burning. On the trunks of trees and the forest floor was growing a great
variety of different mushrooms - mostly grebes and amanites. Grebes were
different. All different colors and sizes to suit every taste. And there were
big white toadstools in balls, others were like sponge pyramid. Grebes were
like cups, while others looked like the ladies in dresses with torn lace
hems, as if crouching in a curtsy. Matt white and lacquer-black, reddish and
yellow, some fungi were smooth and shiny, others - loose and soft. Marijke
laid collected mushrooms near the fire and looked contentedly symmetrical
rows of grebes and amanites. Any witch knowns that the best mushrooms are
collected on the night of the full moon. Suddenly a strong wind blew, the
fire and smoke enveloped Marijke. A young witch shrank away, coughing. Wind
fell as suddenly as bumped, leaving, however, a guest near the fire. A little
annoyned, Marijke looked at the old woman, who was sitting on a log and
watched a bountiful harvest grebes.

'That's the old hag! - Marijke thought. - And whats brought her?' This old
woman was a witch, too. Her name was Mona, and she was the great-grandmother
of Marijke.
- Good evening, little witch, - the old woman grinned, knowing that Marijke
hates such treatment.
- Good evening, Grandma! - Politely answered the girl, she understanded that
show an irritation will deliver a pleasure for Mona.
- I brought you a present, - said Mona, and placed a small bag of dark cloth.
- This amulet. I made it myself. I worked for a week. The old woman laughed
hoarsely, and Marijke thought that's not good at all. Witches don't gift each
other.
- Thank you, Grandma Mona, - she said. The old witch smiled and shook her
head, as if she thought.
- Oh, granddaughter, I became old - Mona shook her head. - Here you are a
cheerful, lively. But why? The blood you have a young, vigorous, and boils
... 'Again!' - Angrily thought Marijke, became increasingly aware that the
old witch came here with a reason. A little black monkey Lulu was peering
over the shoulder of Mona. The animal had temper and addiction to theft. And
now for a mischievous desire to muzzle was on monkey's face.

Chapter 13

- I see, you are lucky today - said the meantime, Mona, distracted Marijke
from reflections. She shivered and looked at the old woman. Mona pointed at a
large brown toadstool, like a witch's hat.
- A rare thing, not everyone is lucky ... - Muttered the old woman. - It
would come in handy, but only in my old age is it possible to find it ?
Queen-grebe, it loves young. Mona did not have time to finish, as monkey Lulu
jumped off her shoulder and ran to the Marijke. And she did not have time to
blink, like a monkey already ripped off her wrist witch talisman and ran into
the woods. A witch's talisman for a witch - the most important thing in the
world. Each witch cherishes its mascot and fears its loss. Marijke with a cry
of indignation ran after the monkey, and Mona laughed softly.
- What a queer - she muttered, and famously whistled. The wind rose, and the
witch enveloped herself by cloud of dust.
Old woman perniciously giggled, picked up the queen-grebe with unusual
dexterity and ran away. Lulu, on the heels pursued by Marijke, raced to Mona
from the forest. At the last second, it hurled mascot of Marijke on a grass,
the monkey leaped to the old woman's shoulder and Mona. Mona saw that Marijke
angrily shouted something, but because of the wind whistling heard nothing.
- That's my love, and will never miss your chance! - She shouted goodbye and
disappeared into the darkness.
- May swamp will eat you! - Wishing her Marijke, shook the sky with her fist.
Then he stood for a moment in silence, to make sure that the old woman
departed. It was quiet, and, apparently, Mona was not going to come back.
Marijke then quietly giggled, then laughed louder, and finally began to dance
around a bonfire, dancing and clapping.
'That's Mona will be surprised when come to home' - thought Marijke, and took
out a big brown grebe of the bag hanging from her belt. A young witch
lovingly stroked mushroom. Well after all, she's such a clever and prudent.
Marijke always succeeded a deceptive spell particularly well, and make a
common mushroom like the queen-grebe - it's nothing at all for her.

Looks like this book was about some witches, Mohanek thought. Interesing,
where these queen-grebes grow ?

Chapter 14

After Mohanek found some interesting (in her opinion) stories, she decided to
devote herself to finding not only similar stories, but also witnesses and
possibly participants of these stories. Although she knew that these texts
are more artistic value, thoughts did not leave her that one day she can find
something (or someone) that will allow her to create or access to a new
branch of the art of magic. And this knowledge Mohanek was not going conceal,
this knowledge must belong to all Thera.
Master Liwaro from Hillcrest, who was a friend of Mohanek, wrote in his
notes: "We are clearly manifested Mohanek's ability of her parents. Father,
Basekos, like, gave her own punch resilient character. Her mother, Lizartosa,
gave her cold mind, concentration and attentiveness. Also, Mohanek found a
new desire - find anything new (perhaps from her grandfather, he, as
rumored, had the exact). Recently, I heard from Mohanek she's going to talk
to someone from the higher rounds, who has a vast knowledge. I saw by corner
of my eye in her scrapbook letters Y, Q and Z."

Chapter 15

During on of journeys Mohanek has found another sample of intriguing story.
This old book was decrepit and discolored, its pages falling out, Mohanek
could hardly read the words. But two pages of book she was able to
decipher...

Hrazp did not know what the spell robber used, but no matter what it was, he
did not like the look of glowing runes that forms in the air. He shouted
words of magic dispelling. Nothing happened.
- You, common wizards - attacker sneered . - You think you know everything
there is to know about magic. You must understand that there is magic in
addition to your books, and the forces that you can not comprehend.
Incomprehensible ritual was over, floating symbols merged into a shimmering
ball of light and the villain threw it into Hrazp. Hrazp created a shield,
despite the bad feeling that he will not be successful.
He was right.

Rune Magic is one of the most ancient. The proper trained person can use
runes in magic. Most often it's the scrolls or items enchanter by powerfull
symbol, but the power of magic runes can be used for directly create magic

In her notebook, Mohanek made a record:
"Looks like I have found what I was looking for. Rune magic is interesting
branch of Art, nobody knows it (or hides the knowledge well). Some signs of
use of Rune Magic can be found at Khardrath's Planar Sanctum. I have to spend
the time to research this place ..."

Chapter 16

During her traverling, Mohanek has met a conjurer named Khonso. She-gnome
told him what's she looking for, and Khonso gave an adivce - try to research
around Akan and Mortron, he saw there some runes. Mohanek spent there a lot
of time, but was disappointed a bit - it looked like dwarves long time ago
actively used runes and used runemagic. But now only some of dwarves are
practicing magic and nobody knows excatly something about runes. All runes
that they have it's an heritage of theirs ancestors.
The research at Khardrath's Planar Sanctum was not much better. Mage,
Malikoth, who used rune magic was slain by saboteur. Khardrath was dead too
(Mohanek was very upset that can't speak with such great mage as Khardrath).
But some of journals Mohanek has found very interesting. That's the record of
Mohanek notebook:
"Malikoth mentioned in his journal some Runemaster, named Ouqin. In the next
page Malkoth names him Ooqin. Of course, it could be just a mistake, but I
think it's not a real name. This Runemaster can still live and can have
another name. I can try to find him, Ouqin his name or Ooqin or whatever.
I'll find him."

Chapter 17

Mohanek has spent a lot of time in researches and accidently she's found an
interesting document. This document was a part of big familty tree of
Hillcrest. On the page with letter "R" Mohanek read:
"RIMPELSHTOOTZER family begins its origin from gnome, named Cardibnetz. He
came to Hillcrest long time ago, nobody knows his true last name. This gnome
had a talent to repair all things (even a little magic), he wasn't a real
blacksmith or something like that, but he knew the nature of things.
Cardibnetz liked to reapeat two words : "Rimpel" (he told that means
"repair") and "Shtootzer" (that means "a little things"). So, everone around
starts to call him Cardibnets Rimpelshtootzer. After some time he settled at
Hillcrest and got married."

Chapter 18

Mohanek's researches were not successfull, she couldn't find that Ouqin, the
Runemaster. Though, Traslan's missive has helped a bit. Zmiaslrithla, a
wight, gave advice to look closely at monks at red sands, at southern
Hamsah's desert. Wight told that there are some persons who knew how to trace
runes. Mohanek has inspected that place and really found some signs of rune
magic but nobody wanted to speak with her. Voran, the head priest, kept
silence. Ursetra, dwarven warrior, has told something about monks too, and
Mohanek planned to inspect all monks around. After some travels, Mohanek got
access to some laboratory at place called Azuremain. Looks like some time ago
that was a very nice place, but some magic (and this captured her attention -
the rune magic) changed that place. Mohanek has made a following record:
"Knowledge is a great virtue. But in incompetent or danger mind this virtue
can become an instrument of mass destruction and sorrow. I must be carefull.
How to find that edge, when knowledge is still a virtue and not a sin ?"

Chapter 2

Professor Nicholas Tyrtovert persuaded his friend, Basekos, that Mohanek need
to be addressed to higher magic, and recommended as a teacher his old student
Chantrelle from Tir-Talath. Skilled mage, a listener of some deep invocation
programs, and then a brilliant professor of High Tower of Sorcery, where she
worked for 30 years.
"Chantrelle - remembers Mohanek - was surprised how quickly I embraced and had
assimilated the concept of an element and veil,"as if I knew them in
beforehand" and that was how she put it. And it really was that at that
moment, when she explained to me the concepts, I suddenly remembered vividly
that all of this was on the commemorative sheets on that wall, and the very
concept of a magic seemed to me a long time friend. "

Chapter 1

Mohanek was born in family of Basekos and Lizartosa Rimpelshtootzer. Her
father, Basekos, was a famous gnomish warrior. Her mother, Lizartosa, was a
shapeshifter mage. Basekos, even he'd became an officer of Hillcrest guard,
was illitirate person. Lizartosa, with contrast of her father, was clerver
and ladylike she-gnome. Nobody knows how such different gnomes found each
other, but a fact is fact - little gnomish girl had appeared in house of
Rimpelshtootzer. Why that gnomish girl at tender age has found an interest in
magic ? Mohanek remembers:
"When we moved to live in the village near Hillcrest, house was in a terrible
state. We had to repair and paint walls, hang wallpapers and so on. In that
time, our family has no a lot of money, so we started to hang on the one wall
journals that we found. Luckily, these journals were notes of some mage of
invocation. These pages, covered with a strange, incomprehensible formulas,
soon drew my attention. I remember as a child I spent hours in front of this
mysterious wall, trying to get some spells and find the order in which the
sheets were to follow each other. From long, daily contemplation appearance
of many of the formuals and stick in my mind, and text of the left a deep
imression in the brain, although at the moment of reading it remained unclear
to me".
