Chapter 2

#### The Years Before ####

Life in the slave pens was awful. Just enough provision was granted to keep
the subjects alive, nothing more. No thought was given to their comfort or
well-being. They fought amongst themselves for the scraps. Mothers would
sometimes eat their young. No one was ever safe.

The slaves had only one thing in common: their hatred for the wizard that
held them. Magic was the most awful and evil thing they could know. Every
attempted uprising was easily thwarted by the spells of the wizard. Even the
doors that held them, held them so fast because they were fortified by magic
wards. Magic was used to enslave.

In an effort to help themselves, the felar had managed to steal an ancient
tome. It was labelled simply, "Woo-shin Shaidar, a Training Manual for
Ninjitsu". It was from a time so long ago few even remember it, but the felar
could not know that. To them it was a holy text. Within was found methods of
killing, disguise, stealth and escape. The keys to free themselves. Yet, they
could not puzzle it out.

They knew if one could become a ninja, they could be free, yet anyone who
came close eventually was taken by the wizard to be cast upon. Those who were
taken never returned. The slaves tried to learn all the manual said on
Concealment, hoping to hide long enough to learn -- but it never worked.
Glowing purple dust rooted out any who became adept.

This is where "Frizwoo" began. The hateful conditions account for his chaotic
and evil nature. The desire to hide explains his tight ties to the sphere of
Concealment. Most of all, it accounts for his hatred of magic and his desire
to be a ninja. These were so deep in his psyche that even the madness brought
on by the missing chunk of his brain could not drive them from his mind.

He has only a fragment of memory from this time. Only the vague recollection
of the wizard experimenting on him and never feeling quite right again.

Chapter 1

#### The First Memory ####

The young felar was having one of the most confusion moments of his life. At
least, he thought he was. He really couldn't remember much of anything.

"What. Is. Your NAME?" the dark-clad human was asking. "Dammit!"

Frizwoo's ear flattened. He just couldn't remember...anything. The shadowy
figure before him was ringing his hands in frustration.

"Hey, friz..." whatever the insult was he was about to spew about the cat's
frizzy fur was cut short as a an elderly man approached. "Wu! Oh Master Wu,
welcome back to the dojo. Please enter."

The young felar spoke, "Frizz? Wu?"
"Okay, Frizwoo, you're in." He wrote something on a piece of parchment.
"What?"
"Get a gi and get training, you stupid cat!"
The young felar looked around. "Who is Frizwoo?" He was very confused.

Either way, he was finally passed the guard and in the training hall. He knew
where he was...knew he had to be here. It was one of the only things he knew.
He HAD to be a ninja. He wasn't even completely sure what that meant. But
there it was, burning in his mind. Be a ninja.

The other thing in his mind was a hell-bent fury to kill magicians.
He knew he had to do that too. Felt it deep. But he had no idea why...

#### The Day Before ####

The old magician grabbed a felar adolescent by the collar and pulled him from
the pen. One was as good as the next. He could hear cries and protests from
the slaves. He ignored them. For years he had struggled, casting and
chronicling, working to unlock the secret to immortality by experimenting on
the furry creatures.

It was simple. He had to transfer his mind into another body. That involved
transmutation, mostly. He thought the key was biological spells with
transportation magic. So he had embarked on a long series of trials and
errors. This felar was the next trial. And, the next error.

He cast the spell, the young felar blinked away, leaving just a small portion
of its brain matter behind. He frowned. Not right. Supposed to be a whole
brain. He returned to the pens, got another slave, and forgot all about the
cat that would become known as Frizwoo.

Thousands of miles away that very cat blinked into existence at the Market
Square of Galadon feeling decidedly confused.
