|
Irikdriby Gravelbelly the Lurker, Bartender of the Eternal Star
DescriptionA stumpy little svirfneblin stands here. He is quite tall for one of his race, standing at roughly four and one half feet. He has glistening solid white eyes that look very similar to shining white opals. When he smiles, which is often, or squints, the wrinkly ruddy grey skin around them threaten to swallow the orbs whole. Near his hands the skin is rough, with the hands themselves bearing many callouses. Away from his hands the thick skin becomes more smooth and supple, and there is more than a little pudge insulating his waistline. His scraggly and wirey straw colored hair is of middling length and unkempt. He often runs his hand through it when one of the wild locks threatens to impale his friendly eyes. He has a fairly relaxed feel to him, but despite that he seems to be keenly aware of his surroundings, scanning for every detail he can glean.

RoleChapter 4 A curse? Added Wed Apr 19 03:49:07 2017 at level 28:After having met one of the Heralds of the Eternal Star, Dribby knew that he wanted to be a part of their troupe of friends. As it happened, they were seeking folks of talent in various types of performing arts. Among their needs was that of a bartender. Always having enjoyed the crowds found among the feast halls and watering holes, he decided to apply. Dribby chummed around with some of the Heralds and became fast friends with each that he met. So it was that when he spied the fabulous and merry jester Raltevio, he didn't hesitate to approach the powerful being and make his case to be the Inn's new barkeep.
After a meeting of mixings, Raltevio hired Dribby then and there. A feeling of elation washed over the plump Svirf, his dreams were coming true! The pain of losing his Ma and Da was staunched a tad as he saw that his new family were more than welcoming to him. It filled him with glee up until he heard it again. Not a minute since mister Raltevio had departed the clock near the bar tolled again. And again, though the hour was approaching evening thirteen bells chimed to mark a non existant time. Considering the events surrounding the last occurence he was more than a little rattled. Since the first time he had heard that thirteen was a significant number to the church of Whiysdan (though in the misreading of the name Dribby seemed to think that it was Whisydan). Seeking more understanding to his possible curse Dribby approached the priest named Illaeth. The elf was a kind soul that had a passion for life and the enjoyment of it, it was soon plain to see. When Dribby voiced his trepidation Illaeth laughed, barely keeping the wine in his slender mouth! Those marked by the number Thirteen were not cursed in any way, and Whiysdan (or the Whisydan) was no one to be feared by any with a love of life and it's many joys. At the prodding of the priest, Dribby made the sojourn back to the shrine of Whiysdan, a place that he had fled from shortly after the incident in Cragstone.
Seeing that this was a place where wisdom was cherished, Dribby began to thirst for the secret of the strange number, knowing that the wise Whisydan found it to be of importance. Where before he felt fear, now he couldn't wait to have a chat with the Lucky Lord.

RoleChapter 3 And Life Rolls. Added Sat Apr 1 20:14:38 2017 at level 11:Soon enough the cost of travelling from Upper to Lower Cragstone began to take it's toll(literally) upon the fortunes of the Gravelbelly family. His Da threw himself harder into his craft, trying to push out the very best works in an effort to please the eye of the King. Though the works surely improved the fancies of the King did not. Almost simultaneously it could be said that the stoneworking business of the King's nephew through marriage was beggining to pick up across the city. His Da was a wise man, but Dribby knew it was loyalty what was blinding him to the happenings present.
At a loss for what to do, Dribby continued to hone his craft in sneakery at night. He was learning his way around locks one night when he gained entry to a nondescript city cellar that he was curious about. It turned out, according to the ledger found, that this was the warehouse of his father's rival, the King's nephew-in-law. Finding the works therein to be of inferior quality even to those works that he himself could make, Dribby's own suspicions were confirmed. Such a lucky coincidence was oddly marked at that moment by a toll of a nearby clock. Odd in the respect that while the hour was midnight the clock chimed thirteen times, something that shouldn't happen no matter the hour. He took with him a bag of gold coins. Determined to right the situation, Dribby came home and for the next several nights would take one of his Da's statues from the front of their shop and leave a handful of coins in it's place. His parents elated, Dribby's heart glowed at the justice he'd taken from that warehouse.
When he returned the next time to the warehouse, however, there were big, tough Svirfs waiting for someone to squeak in through the cellar doors. He was caught and chained in the dead of the night. In the morning he saw his father and the shame in his face when instead of displaying his wares before the King he was forced to plead for his sons life. The King spared Dribby, but at cost. Dribby may not live in the city of Cragstone ever again, and all Gravelbelly's were prohibited from venturing to the Lower. For his thieving ways the elder Gravelbelly disowned his son from their home. Banished and downtrodden, Dribby made his way to Galadon to start his new life without a family.

RoleChapter 2 Life Rumbles. Added Sat Apr 1 19:42:54 2017 at level 11:Life rolled along for the Gravelbelly's in Upper Cragstone. Da had been commissioned by the King hisself to bring works to him every day for his royal right to select a purchase from among Da's newest works. The trouble was that every trip didn't conclude with a sale, and the cost for the lift down was three and one half gold each way! Every week that the King didn't fancy a statue would erode away any profits from when he did.
For young Dribby, however, life was showing him that lows and highs were often jumbled in with one another. He spent his days dealing with the deliveries and customers of Upper Cragstone that were left by the wayside while Da attended the Lower (most were all but happy to remind Dribby at their displeasure of that!). Nights were when he could escape the droll sorts of folks that dampened his day in favor of cheery types who appreciated letting go of such encumberances. Them, and the work he had started for the Thieve's Guild, whom he had bumped into whilst sneaking around. After a bit of a gruffy show the Guildmaster had decided that Dribby would run errands for them and keep an ear out, in exchange the young Svirf didn't get his hide tanned and got to pick up more tricks of the thieving trade.
Being the most exciting thing he could think of while simultaneously being able to still help out his Da, Dribby accepted emphatically. This new outlet showed him that any rough day could be polished fine with the right frame of mind and the right company. You just couldn't focus so much on the drab parts.
Things were tenuous, perhaps, but Dribby tried to enjoy what times he could.

RoleChapter 1 A cherubic belly of gravel poofs into existance. Added Sat Mar 4 22:33:02 2017 at level 11:Irikdriby was born into a cozy life lived in Upper Cragstone. His Da was a stonecarver by trade, but was gifted enough that he was able to carve a more comfortable living as a sculptor, specifically. As a young boy, Irikdriby-or "Dribby" as his folks called him (except when Mum was mad, then it was "IRIKDRIBY ARDUS GRAVELBELLY" and a swift boot to the rear)- was enamored with how his Da was able to detail the stone so beautifully, always knowing when and where the minerals would grow dense or brittle. As soon as Dribby was old enough his Da started showing him how to chisel out forms, and then how to refine them with precision and detail. He'd say that they were making the stone sing. "The worlds wisdom works the same way, Dribby, you just have to go out there and make it sing." and while he loved working stone with Da, a new part of him started to yearn for the wider world and the chance to make it sing it's wisdom to him.
In his youth is when he started to cultivate some of his wider curiosities, albeit still within a tight reign to Cragstone proper. He had a certain knack for tip toeing around without narry a soul taking notice of his passage. He would ply this skill to deft effect, often creeping into the Drunken Homonculus on nights when the doormen were in their cups to listen to all of the tall tales, hushed stories, and lewd jokes that were only available amongst the tables of merry making, at least in his experience. He would close his eyes and let the tales take him off to the various lands being spoken of, barely managing to suppress his sniggering when someone would get to a quick witted punchline. Pranks done to the often tipsy doormen were among his favorite activities, his most cherished being to use his nimble stonecarvers manual dexterity to tie the laces of the their boots together and then rush past them, no longer stealthy, knicking a savory mushroom from their plate and causing them take chase- only to watch them crumple forward into a rolled up ball of mirth.
Life was rich in those years, in ways that could never be matched by coin. Sometimes when he adventures now, he sorely wishes that he could return and relive those fond reflections. As he was yet to learn, however, was that few things so dear can last indefinitely, and that even the best of intentions can turn on the intender.
