|
Sigard the Champion of the Virtues, Acolyte of the Golden Sun
DescriptionA gigantic ocean blue figure is here, standing at a towering fourteen feet in height. Long green locks flow freely from his brow, their deep color and unkempt grooming making them resemble strands of long seaweed. Soft features make up a kind looking face. A warm grin takes near constant residence upon his wide mouth, and steely grey eyes peer out around his large, crooked nose to survey the surroundings. Those eyes, while kind, gaze about with a discerning edge, keenly taking in the local happenings.
The giants body is well muscled and sturdy, looking quite fit with a posture that lends itself to discipline. His soft blue skin is tough, but has the smoothness of youth still present throughout. The slight aroma of salt water clings to the air near to his body, reminiscent of the ocean where so many of his kind make their homes. The gear that you can see looks fairly utilitarian, with placement favoring ease of access over organization.

RoleChapter 4 Every choice will matter, an end of our tale. Added Tue Jun 20 22:01:38 2017 at level 21:Sigard approached the altar first. Wrapped in crimson linen were both of the babes. Their skin was a charcoal grey and resembled their parent specie closely. Yet there was a cherubic innocence to them all the same. They could not have been more than a moons turn in age, and certainly were not of an age to be speaking. The events just past escaped him for a moment as he took in their serenity. A low sobbing began from his brother, who had gone to the body of his mentor and sat cradling the other giants head. Sobbing turned into a grizzled moan of anguish. Sigard moved to comfort his brother, starting to feel overwhelmed with the gravity of all that had just transpired.
"They killed him, Maedwen is dead, brother!" exlaimed the sobbing Timin. Sigard put his hand upon his brothers shoulder and began to speak about what a steadfast mentor the fallen paladin was. "Sigard, Maedwen was more than that. We... loved." the trailing tone of his voice carrying a hint of uncertainty at the words reception. Sigard's heart sank with empathy at how much more profound a loss his brother had just taken. He was about to voice his feelings when the fresh wailing of the babes pierced the air once more.
"Well then brother," Timid said, "we must pick ourselves up and bury those who have shown us a better way. Let us end those wailing fiends and make our way forward." Sigard was stunned. End the babes? Hastily he interposed himself between the altar and his flustered brother. Explaining that they were not even old enough to talk, their tiny souls could never carry the taint of evil so early. Timin flared with a sudden anger. The older Torvaldsson gritted his teeth and cited the eleventh tennet of the code. Reeling at the sudden change in his brother, Sigard tried to reason with Timin, but the older man vowed that he would not let the little devils grow to follow their parents path. Sigard knew this was wrong, and when Timin tried to step around him, he pushed his brother back, pleading for reason. They began to scuffle. Though they were closely matched, Timin had in truth always been just a bit better, and gaining the upper hand sent Sigard flying bodily toward the altar. The throw was off, and Sigard managed to avoid the altar but there was no question of the intent. Drawing himself up he planted himself once again between Timin and the altar and drew the polearm off of his back.
"You are making the wrong choice, brother. Do not force me down this path, for I will not let you harm these innocents." The calm in his voice masked the raging fear roiling in his gut. Looking back at the slain Maedwen, then down at himself, Timin lifted his gaze again only to stare at the altar, eyes alight with vengeance. When the elder Torvaldsson began his charge Sigard wheeled the butt of his poleaxe to his inner heel and prepared to set it. As the moment came a slow tear fell to his cheek, and he made a choice of his own. He did his duty.

RoleChapter 3 A series of unfortunate events. Added Tue Jun 20 18:27:17 2017 at level 20:A slow introduction to some minor communes and a small skirmish with a band of skeletons escalated quickly from a lesson into a lethal situation in a matter of seconds.
The small group of Paladins had recently dispatched the aformentioned band of boney abominations, Maedwen and Ayrnin were a few steps ahead of the brothers Torvaldsson having a mostly polite disagreement about the Code. As they were so engaged in the argument of the other, neither of the usually vigilant Paladins noticed that before the old bloodstained altar that they were walking adjacent to, there knelt a drow priestess and a grubby duergar shaman, each clutching an infant of their race.
Wholly unrelated to the interests of the paladins, the two underdwellers had been sent here as punishment from their dark master, to sacrifice their own first born children to appease his displeasure. The two of them heard the group as they were walking past and wasted no time in seizing their advantage.
It was the cry of the babe that alerted the two brothers, as the duergar had absently let his child roll out of his hands onto the ground. His red eyes were glazed over with a sadistic lust, looking right through the men he faced to the foul acts he so desired. Both Sigard and Timin cried the alarm, nearly in unison. The elder Paladins scrambled, but the moment was already lost. With the efficiency of a dagger the dark duo cut through Maedwen and put Ayrnin onto his back. The brothers Torvaldsson put up a twinned cry and charged at the fiends. The next few moments felt as though an eternity in combat had passed, but at their end two decimated storm giant brothers were all who remained standing.
As sorrow began to set in at the fall of their mentors, the two brothers began to lament their loss, with Timin barely able to hold back his desire to strike the already dead underdwellers. As Sigard moved to comfort his older sibling two shrill wails from the altar reminded them that they were not the only ones who remained.

RoleChapter 2 The New World Added Tue Jun 20 00:33:49 2017 at level 20:Timin and Sigard arrived in Galadon upon a heavily reinforced merchants wagon, who had bore them gladly when the brothers had offered to watch over the caravan as it left the sandy city of Hamsah Mu'Tazz. There had been only scant hint of raiders, a couple scouting pairs who had faded into the horizon shortly after spotting the humongous pair. The Paladins Guild welcomed their enlistment and in almost no time the brothers were immersed in their training, their old life suddenly seeming very far away.
Sigard had been assigned as a pupil to Ayrnin Galad'Emel, a kind but conservative follower of the old god Corlaan. Ayrnin was a good and tempered tutor, often using a softer tone or quiet logic to make his mind known. Sigard admired his calmness as well as the elf's fervant devotion to others of the light and their protection. He quoted one of Corlaan's followers once, and the words stuck with Sigard always. "There is no greater power than the power to give, and in giving all while asking for none, does one end up rich beyond all mortal means."
Timin was assigned to Maedwen, a fellow storm who was a follower of the ancient Baerinika. A good man, but he could be quite zealous and rigid when dealing with the Paladin's Code, leaving little room for alternate interpretations. Still, Timin had admiration for the stoic warrior priest and seemed to be learning quickly.
Near the end of their first year it happened that the brothers and their tutors were sent together to investigate reports of some minor undead wandering around an old temple together. The brothers were alight with excitement, as their education had kept them separate more often than they were used to in the years before. Nostalgia and memories of sparring together flooded back and filled each with a warm feeling of anticipation. They were eager to face the coming trial, wishing for a hastening of the sun to bring the morrow upon them.

RoleChapter 1 Deep within the serene mists, a tale of brothers begins. Added Mon Jun 19 23:23:35 2017 at level 20:Born upon the misty isle of Skokholm, the isle in the channel, was Sigard Torvaldsson of the Askibar Clan. Decended from the old clans who raided as vikings the nearby Kiadana-Rah, Sigard's people had come far from their wicked, reaving ways. Like all Storms they were of a kinder nature now, though still fierce in their dealings with the Fires from Kiadana. He was born to Torvald Ungersson, and Ilswa Eridsdottr during a harsh storm, four years after Timin Torvaldsson, his older brother. Life was rustic and practical. Kind folk worked together to make life comfortable despite simple nature of the settlement. Peat smoke and sea were familiar scents to the nearly inseparable brothers Torvaldsson. They played and grew, and playing turned to sparring as they came into their youth. Competetive, but with an unshaking bond they pushed one another to greater skill than they might have achieved alone. And while proud of such achievment, Sigard always felt that the work they did to help the community was just as, if not more important than being the most skilled combatant.
His father was captain of the Ashclaw, Skokholms huge battle equipped sailing knarr. His crew called him the White Bear, as Askibar meant Ash Bear and Torvald was advancing in age. A strong and religious man, the Old Bear made sure that his sons knew something of the Sacrosanct Magus, and always chided them to mind their choices for Ignolmeer would know them. Sigard liked the idea that someone would see and appreciate all the good that they could do. To that end Torvald, when the day had come, urged his sons off to join the guild of Paladins, that they may return as Knights of the Citadel and bring some of the reliable safety back from the teachings of those on the mainland. The beaming smiles upon Old Torvald and Ilswa's faces as the brothers sailed off was a memory that Sigard would cherish for all of his days, for so few times since had felt so complete as then.
