Chapter 3

After leaving the comforts and security of home, Svalgurd
found himself thrust into the unknown. A lone dwarf,
stubborn and rude to boot. He traveled south, to Galadon,
where he took up residence in a local warrior's guild.
For years he honed his skills. In that time, he has
seen for himself the wickedness that exists in the world.
He has vowed to stand against all things of wicked desire
and dark intent.

Svalgurd has chosen to forgo the simple life of merriage
and children to give his life to changing this world.
Through righteous acts and courage he hopes to be a
catalyst for change. A shining beacon calling out to
others of the light to fight for what they love. He is
head-strong and as stubborn as a mule, but in that, he
makes his mother and father proud. Svelgurd believes
that he can make his own fate. That he gets to decide
where he will end up. Svelgurd is only truly afraid of
one thing. He fears turning, as his mother did. He fears
becoming the very thing he fights. A shadow of himself.

Svelgurd has also taken up the banner and faith of
Lord Ignolmeer. He seeks to wear the mark of the Lord
of Light. He is not quite sure, yet, of how to go about
getting it, but is willing to die trying. Svelgurd has
chosen his own fists and blades as judge and jury. If
wickedness is to continue in the lands, it will do so
over Svelgurd's cold dead body. That is the only way.
In his path, Svelgurd is dedicated, and he'll see it
through.

Role

Chapter 2

A traveler from afar, indeed. A priest, as it were, who
claimed to see a vision of the village and its whereabouts
in a dream. Come, he had, to seek holy warriors of the
Light. Claiming he and his Lord Ignolmeer would right
this world, and bring the Light back to its former glory.
Few of the dwarves cared to listen, however, as many of
them remembered the reasons they had left the world in
the first place. Still the priest stayed in the village
and continued his quest.

Svelgurd wasn't impressed or interested at first. He
knew he needed to stay with his father as support. However,
over time, he began to listen to what the priest had
to say. About how darkness was winning, and the goodly
folk were being driven back. About how the taint was
spreading over the lands. Suddenly, Svelgurd remembered
his mother and how she was overtaken. As time went on,
Svelgurd found himself sitting with the priest, and
drinking with the priest, and eating with the priest.
Hour after hour hearing how the lands needed warriors
for the light. Listening to the priest talk about his
God and what he stands for. But still, Svelgurd could
not leave his father alone. Thus, he continued as a mason.

Svelgurd's father, however, had noticed the change in
his son. One night, he finally told Svelgurd about the
times before their clan had moved into the secret
village. A time when he was a warrior. They talked all
night about the horrors and triumphs of war. About those
who were lost to the fighting. At the end, it was clear
that Svelgurd wanted to leave. To take up the call to
arms. With a hug, the two of them said their goodbyes
and Svelgurd was off the next morning.

Role

Chapter 1

This is the tale of Svelgurd Thickbeard. A tale which begins
in a relatively small village of dwarves in the far northern
mountains. A secret village, it is. Long ago, these dwarves
were driven from their home by dark invaders. Many dwarves
were lost in the siege, so the dwarven elders decided to
leave the wars and violence behind and settle elsewhere.
It was to this clan of workers that Svelgurd Thickbeard
was born.

His father was a mason worker, and his mother worked in
the mines. When Svelgurd was 11 years old, his mother
returned from the mine with an object she had found. She
had a strange fascination with this object, and would not
part with it. Where the object came from is unclear, but
what is known is that it was tainted with evil. For months,
Svelgurd watched as his mother changed. What was once a
kind and gentle dwarf was slowly becoming angry and filled
with wicked desire. She didn't seem to notice the change,
at first, and would fight and claw at any attempts to
remove the object from her possession. After far too long,
Svelgurd's father was able to take the object from his
mother. Once the object was away from her, she began to
see clearly what she was becoming. Even without its
influence, she was too far gone. She hung herself shortly
after.

Svelgurd and his father were heartbroken, understandably.
It would be Svelgurd's first lesson with the darkness in
this world. Dwarves are not easily shaken, but losing his
mother was something that hurt Svelgurd at his core. He
continued onward, however, working as a mason with his
father for many years. Maturing and growing strong. He
was a fully grown dwarf when the traveler showed up in
the village.
