#5682, "[TRIBUNAL] Arech the Knight of the Apocalypse, Magistrate of Galadon"
|
Arech the Knight of the Apocalypse, Magistrate of Galadon
DescriptionThe dark skin of a middle-aged human is covered in a light layer of dirt and sweat. Head shaved cleanly, a strong chin and nose straddle two blue eyes. Muscled arms bear a shield and hammer, while a steel sword engraved with what appear to be holy symbols lies strapped to his back. He is tall, over six feet in height, and his armor appears to be chosen carefully. There is a certain ease with which finds himself, appearing to feel secure in his surroundings. His voice, deep, seems confident and his words decisive, yet by his actions one could feel that much is left unsaid. His gaze is often unstill, scanning the crowds or searching the skies.

RoleChapter 1 The Spire Added Sat Feb 5 17:49:17 2005 at level 20:And when he began to consider it, joining the Blood Tribunal, he could think of only one small reason not to: He was not concerned any further with maintaining Order.
Yet, he had been raised to respect it, as a paladin, and had been educated enough to know what to do to earn 'a badge upon his chest.' And there would be gold, and riches, and safety, as well.
Most of all, however, he would be able to go forth into the guild of paladins finally, and demand to know from all of the guildmasters why they felt he was not worthy. And there was the Code, which required that guild of paladins respect those who uphold the Law. What sweeter way could there be of proving his worth to those whom despised him then to hold them accountable, finally, for their actions, and to demand their respect?
Briefly, he spoke with the healer Onirakoth. A new confidence entered him as he was granted a badge within a few short minutes, and put to watch over Hamsah Mu'tazz. And slight anxiety did enter him when the Provost mentioned requiring an oath from him. However, to Arech's satisfaction, no oath was declared, only a weak declaration.

RoleChapter 3 Ghearden, the Footman Added Sat Feb 5 17:47:17 2005 at level 20:And so he came to speak with a young dwarven footman, Ghearden, whom fancied himself a holy knight of the Phoenix. Hoping to find some explanation and redemption in the dwarf's words, he spoke, and the Footman sensed quickly the jealousy Arech held.
And the Footman's words, because they contained truth, burned Arech's ears, so much so that he called out to the Skyborn, asking why he must be tormented by his priest. The Footman's comments on Arech feeling entitled to the blessing of Shokai were true, and for that Arech could find no response but to call him a demon.
Still, the desire to seek redemption and understand where he had fallen was strong, and he met the dwarf at the shrine of the Skyborn. The dwarf's steady response to the betrayed feelings of Arech was effective, but also infuriating.
And before Arech's very eyes, as they debated the capricious nature of the Skyborn, Ghearden the Footman was granted the blessing.Such an insult, such betrayal by the Phoenix, Arech felt, meant he was surely cursed. As Ghearden urged him to seek redemption, a delusional certainty came to his mind, and he vowed to strike the Footman down as he had his brother.
Arech fell before the Footman's faith in the shrine and in addition to losing the phoenix pendant he wore around his neck, he lost hope for himself.

RoleChapter 4 An Exile, Marked Added Sun Jan 30 17:52:30 2005 at level 10:Days passed at their quaint home northwest of the Ruined City. Their father, busy with rebuilding the Ruined City, camme home with a phoenix pendant, presenting it to his brother and promising him that when the guild in Voralia opened, he would gain entrance. To Arech, he could only offer a weak smile, tainted with a mixture of pity and confusion.
And this burned and festered within Arech, whom had always spent longer in prayer, longer studying, and whom had taken the greatest risks when fighting the orc. And no matter how long, how hard he prayed, his prayers went unanswered and the pain of his brother's blessing made him feel inferior. And it was not long until he had decided that such insincere reward, surely, must be a test for himself from the Skyborn.
Determined to right the wrong and prove himself to the Skyborn, he struck his brother Echod down for his sins of Pride and Sloth. And the Skyborn did notice, and marked him, darkening his skin.
Hurt once again by what he perceived as the fickle god, he left, wandering without food nor water for several days, until he found himself, delirious outside the guild of Anti-Paladins in Galadon, which welcomed him with open arms and no questions, as if feeling his pain.

RoleChapter 5 The Betrayal Added Sun Jan 30 17:50:29 2005 at level 10:They were young, Arech and Echod, but they were blessed with a loving, pious father, Estrom, a widower and holy knight of Shokai. And so it was that the twins were raised to join the Paladin's Guild, and at the age of 14 they killed their first orc under the tutelage of their father.
And Arech, he whom was favored by his father, struck the killing blow. As he paused for a moment to give silent thanks to the Skyborn, his brother seized upon a symbol of the Scarab that had somehow found its way around the orc's neck. Echod offered forth the symbol to the Skyborn and Arech, left wanting as a result of his piety, offered up the corpse of the fallen orc.
And in that instant, a bright beam of light shone forth from the Heavens and Echod found himself blessed, empowered by the Skyborn. Shokai's voice came forth clearly and thanked Echod for offering up the symbol of the hated God, and in that moment Arech found himself lacking. And he knew envy for his brother, whom had always been inferior to he, and only the fear of Shokai's Wrath stayed his hand.
