Chapter 1

An old man with long whitened hair and a beard of the same
length sits here. His right hand grasps a a corn cobb pipe
the tip of which was firmly planted between his lips. His
left hand absentmindedly fingered the strings of a mandolin
resting in his lap. He doesn't notice you at first as he
gazes thoughtfully into the air and blows a ring of smoke.
It hovers for a moment, assuming several different shapes,
and then dissapates into the air. He wears the clothing of
both a bard and a mage and you wonder about his true profession.

"Ah! I didn't see you there!" the old man said, not really
startled, but as if he didn't really want to see you until
this moment. "So, you'd like to know about Saephii, eh? Heh.
Which version would you like? For instance, she might tell
you that she has a twin sister named Aliivir and that her
mother was either a dairy farmer or a bar prostitute. That
is definitely untrue. She might even tell you that she isn't
a thief, or that her thieving path is something more glamorous
than it actually is. She can't really help the lying, it just
comes natural to her. None of her lies are really harmful,
either... I made sure she knew the importance of honesty
when it counts." The old man chuckles to himself and then
continues.

"So, who am I? Well, maybe we'll get to that another time.
You are here because you want to know about Saephii, correct?
Then lets get to it." He takes the pipe from between his lips
and pulls the mandolin to a more comfortable position and
starts playing lightly. He doesn't sing, but talks in a very
poetically prosey way that seems to enhance the vivid imagery
in your mind.

A small girl of human and drow descent hides underneath a
bed. Above her, a violent scene takes place and she covers
her eyes to it. That still doesn't block out the sounds.
Armored men in guard uniforms take their turn tossing the
drow woman about. Each one having their despicable way with
her. She's obviously part drow herself, and the men in the
room make foul and ignorant remarks relating to her drow
origins. The screams seem to reach a crescendo and the laughing
and jibes of the men offset them to make a horrendous cacophany
until only the men can be heard. A limp, used, torn figure
is tossed lifelessly onto the floor without gusto. Blood
drips from her mouth as the fire of life in her eyes fades.
This would be the indelible last image of Saephii's mother
as it burned into her mind. All becomes dark...

Flash forward to a later time. A woman with features much
like that of the little girl hides in the shadows. A mischevious
look without any hint of malevolence spreads across her face
as her victim nears. A floating chest sits just to the side
of the road and looks a like it might have been left behind
by someone. A tall, muscular adventure with a shady look about
him glances around for a moment and then slips next to the
chest. He kneels down and opens it... POOOOFF! A cloud of
spores fills the air and the man's nostrils and he's out
like a light. The woman cackles and leaves her shadows for a
moment to search the unconscious victim. The clothing he
wore made the woman certain this man was evil beyond all
reason. This was justification, she felt, for taking his
things. While she felt only but the smallest pang o
