Etarekoth Xelthzus, the Chancellor of the Eternal Night
DescriptionYou see before you an ancient elf with skin the color of ash, rocking slightly on the balls of his feet as if preparing to spring into action at any moment. His clothing is plain and unassuming, shades of grey and black, and although no weapons are apparent you have no doubt that they are hidden on his person. His hair, a slightly lighter shade of grey than his skin, is pulled back into a short tail and tied with a bit of black yarn, revealing the tips of drastically pointed ears. His face makes the centuries of life this dark-elf has seen readily apparent, his skin once unblemished and smooth is now full of wrinkles and scars, though his high cheekbones and slanted eyes seem strangely beautiful in an alien way. Eyes the color of amethysts glint beneath fine eyebrows, and a chill runs down your spine as those eyes meet yours. Glancing quickly away, you can see that...

RoleChapter 3 Maturity / Advisor Added Fri Dec 5 04:08:35 2003 at level 51:Though it might not be apparent from simply looking at him, Etarekoth has aged, if not physically, then mentally. He has seen Scions come and go, and has developed a greater appreciation for the magical lore of the Eternal Night. As such, he has learned to twist the planar boundary that he might conjure stronger denizens from the Ccul'gra's home plane.
He has begun to ponder the nature of the two forces he embraces, Death and Destruction. In his younger days, he believes he was but a tool of these forces, and acted almost on instinct to bring them to Thera. Now he ponders their nature, and how the differently the denizens of Thera treat them. Some are merely tools as he once was, acting on instict. Others such as the Fortress seek to somehow justify their implusive instincts to bring Death by branding those they slay as "evil". And there are the few, such as Etarekoth, and the former Advisor, Mekantos, who are concious of their desires, and embrace them in their pure form.
As Mekantos has ascended from the mortal plane, the position of Advisor remains unfullfilled. Etarekoth has seen no others speak to applicants in order to sift the capable from the cattle, and has taken to do this himself, until an Advisor is appointed. When interviewing potential applicants, Etarekoth looks for precision in their responses - he wishes to know that they are dedicated to their path, and that they do not merely spout generalities. He also looks for a thirst for knowledge, which he believes is a quality that all members of the Fold should possess. He has also made it clear to those he has spoken with, that within the Chasm, all save the Lords, Advisor and Chancellor are seen as equals, and as such all are expected to contribute to the defend the power of the Fold, to study and understand it, and ultimately, to give their life for it, should the situation require such action.
In addition, Etarekoth has an alternate reason for coveting the position of Advisor. As his prays to Lord Kastellyn have gone unanswered, he believes that the Lord does not yet consider him worthy to grant him an audience. And if that is the case, then Etarekoth wonders how he will prove himself worthy and claim the mantle of Death as his own.

RoleChapter 2 Chancellor Added Tue Jan 13 03:43:43 2004 at level 51:Etarekoth has been given the Chancellorship by Mekantos. He is...dissapointed that he cannot command the magical powers of the Chancellor. With time perhaps, though in truth he would prefer a blade if correctly made. As the harnessing of magical energies bring Euphoria to a magus, the cold and unfeeling touch of iron serves to remind Etarekoth of his true purpose in this mortal existence.
His prays to the Lord of Legends have continually gone unanswered. The Archmage once said that the best artisians of Etarekoth's craft were not well known - that such is the nature of the beast. Due to these events, Etarekoth has come to the conclusion that the path to immortality for himself does not lie with the Lord of Legends. Instead of seeking Kastellyn's mark, Etarekoth has created his own, that of the withered black rose, which is tattooed on his right wrist. Like the rose, the life of a mortal is but a drop in the river of time, to be remembered the life must bloom as the rose, and it's bloom must out-do all of the other roses, which can be but weeds when compared to it.
Etarekoth has also taken an interest in matters concerning the Fold, both past and present. He seeks to find out how contact was first made between the planes, and by whom. Furthermore, Etarekoth seeks knowledge of the Greater Ccul'Gra. The Archmage has indicated that answers will be dependant on his performance on Chancellor, so Etarekoth shall bide his time and rebuild the strength of the Fold. In truth, he would prefer to find such answers by himself, and he has sought answers within the library of Kteng, though he has so far uncovered no tomes that might provide him with such knowledge.

RoleChapter 1 The Work of Etarekoth. Added Thu Feb 5 19:22:10 2004 at level 51:*The cover of his ancient looking tome depicts a *withered black rose. Three runes are inscribed *upon the cover, and you recognize they are from *the language of the dark-elves: Death, Destruction *and Victory.
*As you flick through the pages, you note that the *writing is at first neat and orderly, then begins *to degenerate into inelligble scrawls in some sort *of rune-based language you are not familiar with.
*By observing the frequeny of the runes used, you are *able to decipher some text from the latter passages.
Dying, the deliverance of Death, is an art. As a painter may paint a portrait, a singer would compose a ballad, one who embraces the concept of Death will express himself through the dealing of it. Like all arts, each artist will express himself in a different way, using a different style, a different stroke, though the end result is always the same. Those who follow this path recognize that Death is the one true constant in Thera...
...As gods and mortals alike have the impulse to create, so do they have an impulse to tear down such creations. Those who embrace the path of Destruction are the purest of the Death God's disciples...
...As I look into the eyes of my prey, my blade through her heart, and watch the last drops of life seeping from her, I feel more alive than I ever have, exhiliration unimaginable as a I undo the creation of the Gods with one swift strike...
...Victory is a state of mind, a way of seeing the world, and ones purpose within it. As a scion, the knowledge that the coming of the Last Sunset is inevitable has sustained me. When one loses such a state of mind, they become as a cancerous tumour, which must be cut from the body, that it might not corrupt the pure...
