Chapter 4

The pit fiend rose above Althamael, a tower of angry flesh and protruding
bone spikes. It hurled curses at the Dreadlord, calling him worthless and
ridiculing his believe in his so-called power.

"You shall never channel my power!" And Althamael knew then that it was
Baalduru, whose icy grip had thus far eluded him.

The demon faded to smoke. The smoke billowed, swirling in hues of blue,
then switched to green. An orc formed within. Nameless and faceless, it
taunted the Blackguard as well, shouting of weakness and fear.

Smoke again. Over and over the smoke swirled, changing color and shape,
turning ever into another in the legion of foes that Althamael found
himself facing. Finally, the smoke settled into one shape. That of himself.

The mockery from his own visage was the worst. But then the smoke was dispersed,
suddenly, by a shining ray of light. The light spoke to his soul of Order, of
sophistication. It was then that Althamael understood. This was all a dream.

The Light of Lord Destuvius had dispersed his worry, doubt, and fear.

It was time to seek him out.

Chapter 3

His abductors, as you may have surmised, turned out to be members of the
guild of anti-paladins. They had heard the rumors of his heritage, and
had decided to see if the human whelp might be of some use.

Educated in their ways, the dark arts came quite naturally to Althamael,
and he found himself quite pleased that he had been abducted in the first
place.

In time, elders of the guild took him aside and told him their plans. Relatively
simple plans, as it turned out. Gain in power. Pledge the Blood Oath. Work your way
up the Imperial ranks until you became known as the Dread Lord. DO NOT become the
Emperor.

That last bit was the part that Althamael had trouble with, at least initially.
Why should he not seek power? The title was even his birthright, some might say.
Yet once it was explained, it made sense.

"Emperors gain the accolades and glory, but also take the fall." they said.
"The ebb and flow of the Imperial tide is that of the tides on the sea.
But the Council is the true power behind the Empire. And you can pull the
strings of the Emperor when you need to."

Simple instructions, simple explanations. Not such a simple task.

But he would work on it.

Role

Chapter 2

The illegitimate descendant of an Emperor of Thera. That's what he's
been told he is. An outcast, because that Emperor fell in to disgrace,
hidden away by the mother, and then others within the slave pens when
the mother fell to "the shakes."

The babe, as he was later told, was passed from hand to hand, house to house,
in an effort to "keep him safe" from the Empire.

But even if he was not in the Empire, well. The Empire was in him.

The first child to mock him for his stark white hair was later found
near death in the play yard. No evidence was found to connect the large
rock that had nearly crushed his skull to Althamael, but they watched
him just the same.

As he grew, rivals for the affections of his desired females found
themselves afflicted with some malady or another. A sickness. Poisoned food.

One day as he and some other children were left relatively unattended,
a dark figure snatched him up and took him down a dark alleyway, filthy
hand covering his mouth. Forcing down the panic, the boy-child Althamael
bit down hard, kicked the figure in the shin as hard as he could, and tried
to run.

He was seized by the neck and lifted into the air by another dark figure, this
one clearly a giant.

The first figure stepped into his vision - a dark-elf - and grinned.

"Some fight in you. Just as we suspected. We've got plans for you, boy."

The dark-elf backhanded him, and all went black.

Role

Chapter 1

This character is a bit of an experiment. An exercise in
whether an anti-paladin can be viable without sitting and
harvesting souls at lower levels.

Goals for the character:
1. Aid the Empire, especially the flagging Black Sect.
2. Become Dread Lord.
3. Gain Destuvius' favor and tattoo eventually.
4. Play until con-death.
5. Play an anti-paladin in the hero ranks without building a weapon first.
6. Avoid whining like a bitch if I die and lose equipment.

This character is not terribly interested in becoming Emperor (though will
of course accept the position if voted to it). Further role entries will
flesh out the "why" of this.
