Chapter 4

Serra has trained, and although she has not finished - and likely never will finish - her training,
she has danced many dances. One she is proud of today, having traced an Imperial mage
to the past, she struck. He fled, and she knew full well the other Imperials gathered on her
one way out of the past. One of them, another fela, struck her on the way out, and in the
ensuing battle he fell. She continued her measured flight, encountering a Shadow named Eumridae,
facing him briefly before getting away.

She met Eumridae's accusations of cowardice without a word. One corpse left behind, warm and
bloody on the battlefield the only testament she needed against the gathering flock of enemies.
Yet she could not take pride in the kill, since fortune smiled upon her. Despite her
own missteps in the dance, she prevailed. The training must continue.

Chapter 3

Serra is a simple, direct fela. She admires perfection
and beauty. She is filled with hatred. She remembers
the burns and the lessons she learned in her youth,
remembers the decay of her mother, watching her features
grow sallow and thin, watching her waste away. She
remembers her hatred for her too, that she fed her
addiciton with her daughter's pain.

She is filled with paranoia and distrust, knowing that
she is the only one who can be relied on.

She is selfish and self-centered. She focuses only
on herself, her training, her own beauty and grace.
Not external beauty, she cares nothing for flowers
or grooming, but on the much more important beauty
that comes from leading the dance with death and
living.

She is seeking a place in the village, and will eventually
seek out Akresius.

Chapter 2

Serra learned self-reliance when she left home. She also learned
of the predatory nature of most everyone she met. The strong and
the weak engaged in a fatal embrace. She also learned more of
hatred there, her burned skin now hidden beneath her thick fur.
She learned not to trust anyone, to survive on her own growing
strength.

She left BlackClaw, moved to the larger city of Galadon. There was
more opportunity there, more places to hide. The sewers beneath
the city were her home for years as she scrounged for survival.
She watched from there, watched as the strong took what they wanted.
She learned of the cruelty of some, the anger that led them to
truly evil acts, and realized something. The one who had burned her,
with whom her mother was complicit, utilized magic. The brutes that
relied on muscle and sinew and bone were avoidable. They could
only take and hold so much with their strong grasp. The truly
dangerous ones used magic. They learned to cause things that
were truly dangerous to Serra. The pain they could inflict lasted
days or weeks, the artistry of their mystical ways granted them
greater power than a muscle-bound giant could ever have.

They were the dangerous ones. They were the cause of her mother's
descent. They were the ones who burned her flesh, who used her
in unspeakable ways. She learned to focus her hatred even more.

The telling moment was when she watched a villager in battle.
He was a felar, same as her, and he moved with a measured, deathful
grace. She watched him battling against two mages, a shapeshifter
who took on the form of a massive gorilla, and an invoker channeling
gouts of flame and lightning. She watched him dance among them,
watched his graceful and deathful dance. He didn't come away
unscathed. He took a blast of flame that burned his left arm
severely when he stumbled in his dance. At the end though,
the gorilla lay broken on the ground and the invoker uttered
a simple word that took him away.

Serra decided then to study as he studied. She left the sewers
and went to the guild of assassins in Galadon and began her
training.

Chapter 1

There is something truly beautiful about the feral, the wild, the
free. There is something glorious about doing what you will when
you will. There is grace in the dance of battle, and the flowing
forms of the eternal struggle for life and death. At the beginning
of time this dance happened. It will be there til the very end of
time.

Serra knows this intimately. She moves with the inherent grace of
her kind, the short calculated movements that make the felar a
race of hunters. She knows in her soul the beauty that can be
seen when two artists dance together for their beliefs, their
hearts, their souls, for the simple pleasure that comes of making
one small perfect thing in this broken world.

She yearns to be one of those dancers, to create one true thing of
Beauty in her life.

Serra was born into a bad life. She grew on the streets of BlackClaw,
a gutter-snipe, worse than dirt to those she met. She had no value to
them, and she saw how little value was placed on mortal life. She
watched as the strong used the weak, who then in turn used those even
weaker than them. And Serra was one of the weakest when she was young.
A small fela, she learned to hide her features in dirt and grime to
avoid the worst of the beasts she met. They looked at her and saw
nothing but muck, the filth of the sewers she called home.

Her parents, well, there's another story. Her father left or died, her
mother wasn't clear on that point. What was clear was that her mother
was addicted to drugs and did anything she could to obtain them. A
particularly virulent form of opium, magically altered to increase
its potency, its efficiency, and its addictiveness was her mother's
demise. Serra watched early on as her mother withdrew and decayed from
its use. Her mother sold first herself, then when she had no beauty
left in her frail form, her daughter, to those who lust after broken
flesh. Serra spent more than her share of time the plaything of those
monsters, until she finally ran and left her mother to die her
ignominious death.

The worst of these monsters was one who simply delighted in her pain.
He would call flames to his finger times, and burn her repeatedly,
delighting in her pleading screams. She learned hatred then, and
drew in on herself. The half-drow who did this to her was one of the
worst things she ever knew. He visited her over a half-dozen times,
her mother binding her for him, and he took his pleasure in her
pain.

She left soon as she could after that. Into the mire and the refuse,
holding a vision of beauty in her deepest soul.
