Grodrik the Victorious Champion

Description

Smelling of alcohol and sweat, before you is a short bull of a man. Wide
shoulders give way to large, hairy arms ending in rough calloused hands. His
hair is a fiery red, interwoven with the odd black strand, long and flowing
into a braid down the back of his armor. He has a beard, trimmed neatly on
the sides but woven into a braid about five inches long under his chin,
wrapping up into a long mustache that hides his lips. Fierce blue-gray eyes
peer out from underneath thick red eyebrows. Weapons clamor and clank
against each other and his armor as he moves.

The Beginnings of Friendship

"There it is, the Academy of Adventurers lies through that portal".

"Yeh didnae say nothin about a portal, priest!" grumbles the dwarf.

The other man sighs and smiles weakly, looking at the shorter dwarf. He
wears long white robes with a simple wooden pendant around his neck, wooden
sandals clicking on the stones as he paces in thought.

"Grodrik...be brave. It will be fine."

The young dwarf clenches his fists in anger glaring at the priest, "I be
plenty brave! Yeh should've left me with deh orcs if yeh think I be a
coward!"

"I do not think you a coward at all friend. And that's exactly why I bought
your freedom...My Lord sees something within your soul, you are destined for
more than mining iron for those vile creatures."

"Aye...and I be thankful, sorry teh show anger at yeh priest. Who beh dis
Lord o'yers again?"

"All will be made clear in time friend.For now though, you are free and we
part ways. I will seek you out again in the future."

The dwarf scratches his beard in thought, the weight of the pouch of gold at
his hip a strange feeling to him.

"Yeh...fine den, walk well."

Taking in a deep breath the dwarf steps through the portal.

"Welcome, adventurer!" said a shrill voice...which Grodrik ignored pushing
his way through the doors of the Academy.

doesn't die in the mines or to lashes!"

"Calm down. I have foreseen this and it is as I wish it."

"*sigh* What if he dies?"

"He won't die...he needs this. He needs to be hardened for what is to come."


"...Curses...I hope you are right. Two hundred years I spent finding this
one, finding a soul right for this task. And I had to find it amongst these
drunken loud mouthed dwarves. The others are in place already, if this one
fails it will ruin everything."'

"Your problem, old friend, is that you try too hard. You cannot control the
details this much...these beings are like sand...grasped too tightly they
will slip between your fingers.We are eternal and patient. They are not,
but they are not so weak as you make them out to be either. We've planted
the seed already in his mind. He will fulfill his task so that the others
can fulfill theirs. Have you prepared the drow?"

"...Yes. She has been set on her course."

"Good. The dwarf will find it for us...his purity from magick will allow it.
Then she and the others will perform the ritual and we can once again return
home."

"You're sure they won't simply banish us again?"

"They won't be able to. Let us go now and prepare, all will be made clear."
