Chapter 3

Far below the surface world, it was a seemingly normal day in the dank, dimly
lit caverns outside the main city of Lower Cragstone.
Unbeknownst to the majority of the populous, there were a few individuals
busily scurrying around, deeply entrenched in experimentation.
A little of this, a pinch of that, a small tincture of.. *PoP*FiZz*, it
looked as the experiment was going well then.. *Pop*BOOM*.
Steaming grey smoke billowed out of the minuscule confines of the lab,
swiftly followed by a trickling stream of cool water.
Quickly afterward followed the deep echoing cracks and creaks of the stone
ceiling as it prepared to give way to the aquifer above.
Simple drops begin to seep through the crevices, turned into a thin stream
before escalating to a fearsome, panic inducing deluge.
A small child cries out and takes off toward his cavernous home, screaming
bloody murder the entire way, until he disappears within.
His wailing alerted the populous to what was the worst disaster of most of
their lifetimes, the great svirfnebli flood.
The root cause of this event wasn't ever released publicly but it was the
root cause that led to the Dowstone families unfortunate plight.

Upon hearing the blood curdling screams, Mrs. Dowstone, ushered her children
through their subterranean home, gathered provisions and exited.
The gentle *splish* and *splash* of pattering feet made their excited way
along the cavern paths sopping wet with grey aquifer water.
In their frightened panic, they were lost, stumbling and bumbling around the
dimly lit terrain before making their way back to safety.
This little jaunt was the epicenter to the life of distrust and intrigue that
became the ranger Keborean the Lost Survivor.

Chapter 2

An uneventful arrival wrought with boundless luck and fortune, without
reincarnation along the way, was met with a special sight.
When he did peer upward, only a vast medley of speckles illuminated what
seemed as if the largest cavern he'd ever seen.
He noted that small puffs of smoke seemed to glide across the ceiling,
blotting out the brightly shining lichens and strange orb.
What followed this unique discovery was an event that he'll never admit to,
not in a lifetime of badgering.
(When beholden the sunrise for the first time, a few drops of pee happened to
squeeze themselves from his nervously taunt and shaking body.)
It was the most awe inspiring sight that he'd ever laid eyes upon, such a
massive globe of radiant energy, so terrifying and powerful.
After all of the initial shock wore away, he did begin to venture further and
farther around, always cautious of what he couldn't see.

This new landscape was far different from the dimly lit cavernous depths in
which he had long called home, everything, strange and unique.
Soon he found a guild that would offer training to a wily adventurer such as
he, the "Ranger's Guild" it was called.
That place was strange, no more so than what he had just experienced, but
still so very different from his normal.
Again his timid nature and lack of trust fluctuates and he doesn't have
enough faith in the "Guildmaster" to learn of the unexplained.
(The unexplained, "Magic" it's called.)
He continues to hear the occasional voice upon the winds, the patter of feet
rumbling by, and blames all of this on the unexplained.
One day, he'd really want all of this to go away, for his head to swim clear
in it's vast quite and calmness when he's with the stone.
The Earth and Stone have taken care of him so far and he can both feel and
see them, so they are his allies and he puts trust there.

Well, as you may see, the prelude of Keborean Dowstones' story is brief yet
eventful, further chronicles may tell other events.

Chapter 1

Some years ago, never mind how many, at a time of moderate turmoil, a fleeing
family of svirfnebli were traveling underground.
A mother, two older sisters and a young boy whom struggled to keep up with
the quickened pace of the frightened herd.
As you may have guessed, this young boys' name is Keborean Dowstone and his
story begins when his family "misplaces" him here.
(Lots of searching from both sides, from him and his family but neither were
successful.)

He was still very inexperienced at the time but was nearly full grown at
three foot nine and hearty as a flock of fishers.
No claim to any expertise was made by he and he only possessed a rudimentary
knowledge of being alone in the cavernous depths.
Due to some luck and a great deal of attention to his surroundings he was
able to survive off of the land, a meager life but life still.
Many times he wandered, stumbling and bumbling through the deep wilds,
encountering fungi that would most often cross ones' eyes.
Here within these dreary confines his mind cackled with glee as it played
trick after heinous trick upon the unsuspecting youth.
Occasionally he would hear the echoes of laughter, tears of sorrow, or calls
of his name but it was never true, always lies.
As all of these events added up and began to take their toll, he broke down
and wept, solemnly and sorrowfully cowering in aggravation.
Distrust and deceit, he abhorred and this grew and grew, just like the sprout
of the great spruce from a tiny seed to a gigantic timber.
Eventually these thoughts were what drove him to search for refuge elsewhere
and inspired his climb up, topside.
