Chapter 5

As time flies, a catalyst has caused Janu to simply start lying.
There's only so many ways and times she can tell Therans that the
best way to avoid her dagger is through coming to her first rather
than later. She feels she shouldn't have to hold her hand out
like some beggar. Others should come first and woo her through
words, trinkets, gold, whatever.

And so Peqy, a young arial assassin, plays the role of catalyst.
Whilst traveling with a drow shapeshifter and fire giant dark
paladin, this young assassin found himself with a dagger in his
back. Stiff one at that, considering the arial ancestry and
Janu's fist of lightning. But, the drow was the first victim,
and that is how Janu decided to play it off.

So Janu played it off, telling the assassin that she was a Maran
of the Fortress. She's always had this inkling to go along with
what others accused her of. Many wondered if she was a Villager,
she'd always say no, no, dear, I adore magic. But perhaps she
should say and be whatever the hell she wants to say or be.

Limitless possibilities here. If Janu can convince Peqy she is
a Maran, which after the fact the assassin's compatriots called
Janu dangerous, then she could be anything. She could be a
servant to the Night, or an agent of the Nexus, anything. And
she's likely to start claiming different affiliations in the future.

However, there is one problem. Whilst Janu conversed with Peqy,
she couldn't help but think to herself she was indeed a Maran.
It is very possible that Janu's insanity is coming to fruition.

Chapter 4

After a stunning victory over an assassin and warrior, unsolicited by
Janu, she found herself north of the Inn of the Eternal Star. An ally,
a Roak, arial in ancestry began a conversation regarding to preceding
battle. Amidst fruit and wine, the two engaged in a deep discussion
regarding life.

It just so happened one of the aspiring victims served as an Agent of
the Nexus. Another aspired to be an agent of the Nexus. A svirfnebli,
smaller than most, out of obligation pursued Janu's demise.

Failing, he would admit as Janu rested how impressed he was at Janu's
victory over his compatriots. And then came the Emperor of Thera.

A minstrel, Hanord had usurped the seat as Emperor and declared himself
an Emperor of the people. Janu, as Enforcer of Dagdan, initially gave
support over this matter. She prevented a few attacks, gave assistance
to, certain, imperials and thought why not support the People's Emperor.

Portrait after portrait came in of the various Sect Leaders, but it was
this day that entertainment was shattered. Sipping wine and eating fruit,
Hanord came up and sang a hostile song revealing her to Thera. Then,
when spoken to in a civil manner, the People's Emperor chose to create
an enemy.

Janu Jagruti now intends to carry out her promise to Hanord. A promise
that an Imperial will write a note to Empire about how Janu has done them
wrong, by killing them, or by taking their things, or anything. Empire
is going to pay until, as Janu requested of Hanord, he apologizes.

Chapter 3

Twenty human years later, Janu Jagruti finds herself staring at
a mirror placed in the Meeting Chambers of the Dagdan Thieves
Guild. Throughout her tenure as Enforcer, she has often spent
time doing this. Sometimes, the reflection would cause painful
glimpses of memories to relapse. Sometimes, the reflection
would lead her to simply marvel at her own beauty. Sometimes,
the reflection would leave her in that place where she looked
far off to the west and aspired to live the dream that was
Renee's life.

However, when being mesmerized subsided, the inclination of
killing always surfaced. And so she would go out into the
vast wonderland that is Thera. Killing some out of anger,
some for joy, some to establish Dagdan's dominance. Not
governed by any rules, Janu found herself holding to one
simple tenant. Those who respected her would find themselves
mutually respected. For record sake, even that isn't written
in stone.

Today, twenty human years later, Janu felt different after
her session of vanity. Today, she saw her first wrinkle.
Unable to pinpoint what emotion this is, there was simply
a sense of unfulfilled. Maybe it's there isn't enough
duergar blood on her blood-stained tunic, but maybe a
brief conversation with Lord Lyristeon was an appetizer
and she is hungry for the entree. But before she can even
aspire a conversation with Him, she needs to find his Shrine.

Chapter 2

These traits currently define Janu.

First, she is incapable of any type of empathy. Abducted, held captive,
and used, there is always a sense of someone should have rescued her.
Noone did, and so everyone that she can inflict pain to will get it.

Second, she, albeit a hazy memory, remembers the duergar kidnappers.
Hell, she remembers their faces. No duergar will ever find themself in
her favor.

Third, she has discovered the crest of Dagdan. Her first clue to self
salvation lies in embedding herself in the very city she assumes killed
her dreams.

Fourth, she knows the power of money. Money is the reason she is in
this entire predicament. She is thrifty and she intends to be wealthy.
So wealthy that there is never an occasion that mirrors her childhood.

Chapter 1

The chill air of an odd winter is forever etched in Janu's mind. Janu
was born of simple, humble, yet happy means. Her father a farmer of
Aldevari, mother apron in tow housewife, a nuisance of a young brother.
She would often look towards the west at the majestic castle, dreaming
of a life where she was a princess like Renee. But such a dream, for
our dear Janu died on that chilly afternoon.

Amidst helping her mother with dinner, their small shack was attacked.
Duergar, a gang of them, arrived and kidnapped her. Though Janu once
remembered the entirety of that incident, she no longer does. She was
fourteen then, and that was the last time, for a long time, she would
be coherent enough to remember anything.

Opening her eyes to see the familiar room with a familiar blurry had
become a staple to Janu's life. The men that would visit her cell
had nothing but the worst of intentions. She had become an object,
possession to a rather slimy syndicate of thief pimps. And so she
toiled through years of a hazy existence, fueled by contempt and
immeasurable scarring.

And then, she had ran her course, her purpose from the view of the
syndicate. She was pregnant. Left on the outskirts of the Desert
City, Janu awoke to find a dead fetus lingering to her womb. But,
instead of a sense of despair, a sense of insanity had long overcome
her. Partially buried next to her, a ring glimmered off reflection
from the sunlight. Emblazoned with the crest of Dagdan, Janu crawled
towards it.
