Chapter 7

**** An Except from the Journals of Pioric ****
Walking the lands, I found myself looking at the dark
shadows. Would that some bit of light could be shone
into them. I had thought to keep myself out of Dagdan.
The Darkness there is strong. Then I realized that if
I avoided it, I was avoiding my duty.

And so began my journey to become the Enforcer of Dagdan.
Many helped along the way, pave my way to the vote with
donations. Now that I am there, I hope that my Light
can push back the darkness of that guild, perhaps even
unseating <NAME>, and finding someone of the Light to
take his place in the Guild. I think perhaps, that I
shall seek some divine guidance from The Lady on this.

I've never truly thought of myself as a religious fellow.
But lately, I've found myself in the company of several
who espouse the virtues of the Lady of the Mists. I find
this intriguing. I wonder, is there something more to my
life. Perhaps it is time to find out.

Chapter 5

**** An Except from the Journals of Pioric ****
So long ago is seems, I was given into the hands of Her.
So much has changed since then. I'm stronger now, both
of arm and of spirit. My heart is strong, filled with
a true love of the light. I've finally come to grips
with what I've done. Finally I can be what I was meant
to be.

It's long since I've even thought of my father. Long
since I've been home. Now I am different, now I am
becoming what I was meant to be. No longer will I
use his name. I will search out a new name. One
that means something. One that will stand for something.

Chapter 4

Pioric is a conflicted soul. All his youth, he was indoctrinated
into the Imperial way of thinking. But deep down he knew it was
wrong. His father, a significant merchant noble, gave him over
to the service of the Empire, knowing full well that he was
sending his son to his death.

In his discussions with the Old Man, Pioric realized this, and
was overcome with a great anger. It took days for the Old Man
to assuage his anger and replace it with compasion. There is
still a deep burning hatred for all things Imperial in him, but
it is under control for now.

Pioric was tutored by a high ranking shadow of the Empire, and
thus is drawn to the guild of thieves when he starts out on his
own. Finding many of the skills he'd started to learn under
her, being well suited for the way he led his life.

In the weeks of captivity, Pioric learned from the Old man, that
in deed, the feelings he had as a youth were right. He's learned
that selflessness is truly the path to happiness. He's learned
that his skills can and should be used for the good of others,
that the weak are not something to be preyed upon but instead to
be protected.

Pioric will seek out the Fortress. The Old Man spoke of it often,
and he wishes to see for himself if it all that the Old Man made
it out to be.

Chapter 3

Pioric woke in a haze, his bones aching from laying on
the cobblestone floor of the dungeon cell. His hands
were no longer bound, but the bite of the ropes still
lingered on his wrists and ankles.

"A my boy, I've been waiting for you to wake." came

Pioric stirred, and came into a sitting position. He
looked over at the wall of bars and in the other cell
there was a tall, gaunt man sitting on the floor.

"You've the look of one at a crossroads son. What's
more, you've the look of one in need of something."
said the man.

"I... I don't know... Something... I'm not sure I'm
worth it now. I've done some bad things... very bad
things." said Pioric

"We've all done some bad things son, it's what you do
after that that makes you who you are boy. And now
you're at a crossroads, what are you going to do with
it?" said the man.

"What can I do? I've been betrayed, I'll rot here, with
you until they come and kill me, or I die on my own."
said Pioric.

"Boy, time to right some of your wrongs. You'll never
truly balance the scales, cause it's just the way things
are, but now, you can start making amends, and making
yourself more than who you are... More than who you were...
now you take what you know, improve it and use it for
good. Make this world something better...."

They spoke like that for weeks, the man teaching Pioric,
and the boy slowly and steadily coming to an understanding
of what he needed to do.

"Come here boy, it's time." Said the man as he reached his
hand through the bars

"Time for what?" Pioric said as he reached out to clasp the
old mans hand.

The old man muttered a word under his breath, and in a flash
they were standing near a farmhouse in the shadow of a large
mountain range.

"Time for you to make good on your promises. There to the north
your going to find a large Fortress. They'll need your help,
go, seek them out when you've gotten a lay of the land. Do
me proud boy." said the man as he muttered another word and
vanished.

Chapter 2

In the months that followed, Pioric was subjected to bouts
of torture, training, and reward. All specifically designed
to do one thing. Erase the pompous young noble that he was
and replace it with something else, something strong, something
deadly.

The Voice, for that is all he knew her as, was not his only
instructor, but she was the only one who was allowed to lay
a hand on him, whether it be for pleasure or pain.

Pioric now stalked the streets of Seantryn Modan. His tasks
set out daily by Her. Some days it was merely following a noble
around town and reporting back what he'd seen. Others required
him to take something from a wandering soldier without being
noticed. Teaching him stealth, and secrecy.

Then the day came the orders were different now. He was to
follow a low ranking officer of the Empress's house guard
to a brothel on Nightshade road. The prostitute was paid to
let him into the room after the officer had finished and was
resting. The voice had handed Pioric a dagger for the job,
the pommel shaped with the scales of the blood tribunal upon
it.

"This city will rebel against the Tribunal when they find this
in the soldiers body. And it will create the perfect rift for
the Emporer to make his move. We will own this city by the time
the sun rises tomorrow."

The room was dark that night, the musky smell of sex and sweat
permeated every corner. Pioric moved towards the bed as the
young girl crept out of the room. Dagger in his hand he
pulled back the sheet quickly slamming the dagger into the
mans chest. The impact was brutal, hard enough to crack
many of the mans ribs. His eyes opened quickly, as his
back arched, and then he went silent, his limbs falling limply
into the bed.

Pioric stared down at the man, uncertain of his next actions.
Just then the door burst open, and a squad of the Empress's
soldiers burst into the room. The fight was short and brutal
in the end, Pioric lay on the floor, his last conscious thought
was of the betrayal. Somehow he knew that the powers of this
great city would not be fooled by just a dagger, they'd need
the killer as well. She had betrayed him.

Chapter 1

"You'll go because the Emporer wishes it and that's final!"
his father said.

A sharp pain in the back of his skull forced the young
noble to his knees, as his vision faded slowly, he heard
a soft voice.

"He'll serve the Emporer, whether he wants to or not,
you know the edict merchant." came the voice in a whisper

Some time later Pioric came to, his head pounding, he was
bound and gagged, lying upon a bench. The room rolled with
the steady pace of a large boat at sea.

"The first son is always given in service. The Emporer has
grand plans, the likes of which the Empire has never seen
before. Those grand plans require sacrifice on everyone's
part. You are no different boy. Now you're in my service."
came the soft familiar voice from before.

Pioric grunted and squirmed a bit, but the ropes began to
bite into his wrists and ankles too much. Eventually he
lay still trying to take in all that was around him.

"Yes boy, you are in my service, and we are to have the
delight of being among the first to make our way to the
lands of the Empress of Seantryn. There, you and I will
be the spear head of the Emporer's plans. Too long has
the Empress held herself aloof and away from the true
power and might of our Empire." came the voice.

Some days later, they docked in the port of Seantryn
Modan. Pioric was given a sedative of some sort and carried
from the ship wrapped in a small sail. He woke some time
later, in a small cramped room.

"First, know this, if I am displeased in any way with your
performance, your family will suffer. Second, know that I
am very, very hard to please. Yes, I know much about you
little boy. Now it is time to see you made into a man."
the voice said as it slowly moved across the room toward
him and removed their hood, revealing a beautiful woman.

"I am your teacher, and you the student. When I am finished
with you, you will be the Emporer's newest weapon." she
said with an evil grin spreading across her face.
