Chapter 3

Long years passed quickly as the thread of time stretched thin for Eachainn.
The thoughts and memories of a millenia of experiences, trials and triumphs
were woven into his mind like a thread of gold through a fine silken
tapestry.

Invoking the elements came easily to him now, battling the tainted was more
instinct than thoughtful action. Finding Purity though was akin to finding
the scent of home on the breeze in a far away land. It was there to be found
without doubt, but its presence could not be created with conscious intent.
Eachainn had made the pursuit of Purity his focus, rather than its
attainment. For in his mortal soul, he could not conceive a circumstance
in which he could truly be pure.
Truly be pure.

He strived with all his being to please his Goddess. His elvish stoicism was
shaken with each word he heard uttered from her lips, but he kept a calm
countenance. He hoped one day to walk the mists among her Jaguars for
eternity.

Often his mind turned to the future of the Fortress of Light. The last many
years had seen many souls come and pass, their places filled by others. He
knew the cycle would repeat itself and the Light would care for its own. Yet
he felt some responsibility to groom one who may walk in his shoes when his
time had found an end.

Chapter 2

The renowned farsight of elvenkind had granted Eachainn no inkling of the
paths his sojourn from his home would find him on. The esteemed wisdom and
intelligence of his race provided no foresight to the experiences that lay
before him. He found his way in the pursuit of purity and deeper
understanding of his faith in the Jaguar. In doing he earned a place as a
Squire in the Fortress of Light. The long years of serving as a Squire taught
Eachainn of the very existence of humility. The concept was known to him,
but the manner in which it was practiced in his homeland was completely
foreign to its application within the Fortress. Study of the Creed and
observation of the Maran led him to begin to comprehend nuances of the import
and substance of the war against the tainted, opening his perceptions in ways
he delighted in applying to the art of his guild.

Eachainn often meditated at the concept of Purity and its pursuit. Upon
finding the shrine of his Goddess he was astounded by its state of ruin. The
juxtaposition of the perfection his eyes found in the Ghost of the Misty Ruin
and the ruins themselves daunted and confused him. His understanding of the
hunt was guided by his first encounter with his Goddess and he gained insight
to his mortality's temporal nature. He could sense though some notion just at
the edge of his awareness. A means to grasp the intertwining of the temporal
and the pure that eluded him yet. Perhaps, at times, he allowed his
reflection and thoroughness of assessment to result in hesitation, but he
persistently pursued to live the dictates of the Creed.

"Eachainn" a jaguar growled in his mind, "would you like to be the Captain of
the Fortress of Light?" Eachainn had hoped for the opportunity to lead with
the passing of Morin and so had engrained himself with the sense of
responsibility to lead by example, he responded on instinct, "I would be
pleased to do my duty and serve as Captain." The jaguar growled again, "It is
not duty to lead, Eachainn, it is a desire and must be sought." Eachainn
paused to consider the possibility of taking action out of any motivation
other than his duty to the Light. He realized that indeed he did wish to
lead, and the wish did not originate from a notion of obligation. "I seek to
be Captain." And it was made so.

Role

Chapter 1

House Ellysandr once one of the most highly esteemed of the houses of the
elven keep known now in the common tongue as Darsylon is not in these times
held in such high regard. A midnight drow raid resulting in the rape of the
elven mistress of the House in the age before the last age was immenseley
damaging to the reputation of the House and those who hold the name
Ellysandr. Though the House is in the present times the best fortified and
most wealthy save for the palace itself, the perception of the passage of
time being as it is to the High Elves, the passing of ages has not cleansed
the stain of the failure against the drow. It remains in the forefront of the
minds of those elves who determine status in their culture.

A high elf son was born into House Ellsandyr and given the name Eachainn. He
is the fifth of the House to hold the name. Eachainn spent his youth being
trained by the finest of guildmasters in the art of elemental invocation. He
spent the totality of his waking moments in study and practice to hone his
natural talents. His family guarded him from knowledge of the struggles and
conflicts inherent in their society. When he came of age his elders explained
in a manner certain to elves that he had been chosen to restore the name of
House Ellysandr by prophecy. He was told that he would lead the House against
the drow and destroy them utterly, only then would the stain on the House be
cleansed.

The very thought was foul to Eachainn. While he found joy in the dedication
necessary to discover the myriad or single intonations that might invoke a
spark or flame from empty space, he saw the strictures of elven civilization
as self serving and contradictory. The notion of fighting the drow to restore
the name of a House in the view of others was loathesome to him. Eachainn
loved his family though, and focused his efforts to understand their motives.
In his study he discovered the Jaguar and the purity found in striving to
prevail in a righteous cause. As Eachainn continued to examine the religion
of the Goddess Baerinika he was enlightened by the importance of clarity and
the purity of one's purpose.

Eachainn immediately took leave of his home in Darsylon in search of those
who held his beliefs and with the intent to prove himself to his Goddess.
