Bhowaer Baheougt the Stainless Hands of Righteous Warfare, Marshall of the Fortress
DescriptionA stout, barrel-chest dwarf is before you. Black hair sprouts out from the crown of his head to match the two braids hanging from the sides of his chin. A bulbous nose marks the center of his hardened face between two eyes that are inset deeply beneath his furrowed brow. Their crystal blue gaze appears fierce even more so than his extremely weathered skin. His mouth remains to be seen from beneath his bush beard which hangs past his chest. Very well groomed, it flows straight and holds two braids that have been woven into its length. Age has begun to show itself in the lines about his eyes, and the lines of gray hair mixed into his otherwise dark black hair.

RoleChapter 8 An Example of Purity (pt 2) Added Wed Jun 29 08:18:12 2011 at level 43:Staring into nearby fireplace in thought, comforted by the heat that was nearly forge-worthy, he leaned back in his chair with a frustrated and thoughtful tug at his beard. Teaching with words was harder than he thought it would be, and if anything it had had more success in showing him how much people didn't know about purity. Most people seemed to think purity was about little more than cleaning something away to leave what is desirable bared of anything that would mar it, but he had dwelled on it for a very long time and knew now how much more it was than that. The hard part was explaining it to others in a way that they could understand, and endure. He was used to people not wanting to hear him talk more often than not. Either for the message he was giving to some, or the way he talked for others, they never seemed to grasp the thoughts easily, and his thoughts dwelled often on how he could change that.
His thoughts interrupted by a loud round of applause, Bhowaer joined with the clapping as the elven singer flourished his cape as he bowed to the appreciation of the inn's patrons. Glancing around the room, the thought struck Bhowaer that he wished that this was the sort of attention that he could get when it was time to teach someone of purity, and hold their thoughts to be able to help them understand more of it. He couldn't sing, but looking around the stage, he saw various stage props that were part of a story as much as the words that told them.
An idea taking root in his head, Bhowaer gathered up his things and left another gold coin lying on the table. He hurried out of the inn, the misty ruins of the Jaguar awaiting him with hopes for the perfect audience for his newly formed idea for a bit of show about purity.

RoleChapter 7 An Example of Purity (pt 1) Added Wed Jun 29 08:17:07 2011 at level 43:Resting in the inn for a rare moment of respite and reflection, Bhowaer sighed as he saw the serving girl coming to his table for a third time, having insisted to her already that the water he'd brought in with him was quite suitable for him to wash the dust from his mouth.
Pulling a coin out as she walked, she put on a knowing smile and pulled a full mug from her tray to set on his table, but he held out a leathery hand to stop her.
"Water still beh good fer meh, but 'eres a gold fer ya ter see at the elf minstrel o'er thar dunnae stop singin fer need of a drink ems self. But dunnae tell ems it were from meh, or he'll go an think ems good enough ter carry a dwarven song fer battle er sommin."
Drinking from his skin, he leaned back in the chair and pushed his untouched plate of hearty meats further away, the smell of it making his mouth water, and tempting him to forego his diet of unleaven bread just this once. It was a small sacrifice, in the grand scheme of things, but to him, the small things were just one part in many for making himself pure within, and keeping himself that way as much as he could.
Things had gone well over the recent years, much better than when he was still shorter of beard out of the academy, and filling in the voids of how to fight as a paladin monk. He still repeated the words of Baerinika in his head, "Fight yourself and your own weaknesses, emerge the victor. Stronger, tempered." He snorted a bit of a laugh and reached across the table to move the food as far from as it could be and not clatter to the floor and realized once again how true those words still were, and how far he had come since they were spoken. His name was mentioned now as an initiate of the jaguar, and he was set on showing people why, as he always had with his actions, and trying to more with his words as well.

RoleChapter 6 Wise Words Added Thu Jun 2 18:22:50 2011 at level 23:Standing over the the very large, and still twitching fire giant corpse, Bhowaer nodded grimly as he saw the life drain from the beasts face, the rents in his flesh standing out clearly from the wrath that was called on him.
Seeing that it was over, he relaxed slightly, and recalled words that he had heard months back, but ones that would stick with him for years more.
"Fight yourself and your own weaknesses, emerge the victor." "Stronger, tempered."
Looking down at his hands and allowing the muscles there to relax to a more natural state instead of held held straight like a spearpoint, he though on the rest of the words from Lady Baerinika.
"Aye, a defeat is always difficult." "But you will have to pick yourself up, learn, do better next time"
Toeing the lifeless leg of the first foe he had slain, he spoke to the air as he felt the ghostly remains of the dark soul returning.
"Lookin ats my failins of afore 'er makin mah strong enough fer you."
Days later, he found himself in a similar vantage, looking over the corpse of yet another fire giant, and again the words of the Jaguar whispered in his ear, and he felt the words all the more. He knew that more defeats were due to come with time, that was the way of combat, but it was heartening to see the connection of the words he knew with the results before him, and he knew that with those defeats, picking himself up would still be the only thing to do, and he would do better the next time.

RoleChapter 5 Basis for Character, and Interpretations of the Code Added Thu Jun 2 17:51:19 2011 at level 23:Bhowaer is essentially intended to be obsessive compulsive in ways. Not with quirks like doing things three times or being clean, (although he does pay attention to cleanliness) but mostly in relation to observed behavior. He is rather concerned with mistakes though, in judgment, and in skills as well. He is driven to work endlessly to improve the skills he has as a monk, and in communing the powers granted him by Baerinika.
He will be very quick with words and actions when he observes behaviors that he does not agree with, and will be very preachy.
He believes in getting to the point, and doesn't mince words, being brutally honest if need be.
He speaks with a very pronounced accent, but is not ignorant even if it sounds as if he is, it is just a dialect.
Key Interpretations for the code: 1. Very important, and interpreted as written. Beliefs and loyalties will be adhered to, and he will expect others to do the same. 2. Interpreted at written. Excess coins will be distributed mostly to beggar type NPCs 3. Interpreted to exclude evil. Will never fight another of the light, and will press hard to avoid conflict with neutrals. 4. Focus on never betray, and courage. He will not needlessly die in combat nor expect others to. In combat, each must know when it is time to withdraw. He knows death happens in combat and will expect it to happen to himself and at times comrades as well. 5. Interpreted as written. 6. Interpreted as written. Focus on risk of life, not needless suicidal attempts. 7. Interpreted as written. Avoids alcohol, and cursing as a choice. 8. Interpreted as written. 9. Will strictly follow the laws of Thera, and argue against others that say or do otherwise. 10. Interpreted as written. 11. Interpreted as written. 12. Interpreted as written.

RoleChapter 4 Knowing Strength Comes Added Fri May 27 14:55:43 2011 at level 20:Trudging up the steep mountain path, Bhowear stopped once again and looked back down, wondering if there was more he should do first before completing this particular ascent. This was no simple first meeting, it was no idle conversation, this was one of the Gods of Thera, the Jaguar, the Warrior Maiden Baerinika.
He knew there was nothing she would not already know of him, with his soul, like all souls, laid out before her like a book for reading. But that made it worse, since there was no hiding the fact that despite his great efforts training, honing his body and mind, he was still a pale shadow to some others that he had fought beside and against, and she would see him for that no matter how firm his stance and or the clench of his fists before an adversary. Knowing this let the doubts try to creep up again, the thought of standing and pledging his life to the one that stood truest for the purity of combat when it is called for, even when he himself wondered if his own dedication to unarmed combat could also be holding him back.
Growling at himself for being a fool, the stout dwarf shook his head and turned his way back toward his destination, the misty ruins, and went through the reasons to continue on in his head. He knew that nothing worth doing came easy, and the hardship that he might face now would only make him stronger in time. The conflict against the impure was no easy path, nor a short one, and experiences would only help him in the long run, and he would be stronger because of it.
Sensing the vague path into the ruins, he gave a final nod and left the main path, knowing that he still had much work before him, but that it was past time to learn more from the Jaguar, and live his life to serve her cause.

RoleChapter 3 Closer to What Needs Fought Added Mon May 23 07:49:55 2011 at level 13:It turned out, that the broke nose boy was the arrogant son of a noble, that had recently come to call on Akan in a financial arrangement. There was a large amount of outrage by the boy and his family, and it was brought before the small council of the King of Akan to be dealt with. They didn't care much for the loud mouthed human, but some sort of action was merited all the same, so they came to the conclusion of a public flogging of Bhowear, and a public apology, since their was no lasting harm done other than a nose that would no longer be straight. If refused, then it was determined that Bhowear was to be banished from Akan and the surrounding area, allowed to pass through, but never to reside there again. He was old enough to leave home, but had no desire to do so, so he agreed to the flogging, but stated that he would never apologize, for what the other had done was wrong. He announced that he would not apologize and would thus accept his banishment, then stood for a short time after to be met with awkward silence. When pressed as to why he still standing before them, he nodded to the man standing nearby with the long lash for his flogging. Snorting with surprise, the council let him know that if he was not apologizing, there was no need for the flogging as well. Only nodding, the young man turned from the others and left, pausing only to bid his family farewell and gather a few things before heading out to see what the world had in store for him.
Coming out of the mountains, Bhowear's feet soon sound the streets of Voralia. Wandering about the strange place for a time, he soon found himself at the guild of the Paladins. Standing outside, he was drawn to a stone table etched with words. "Live to be the guiding light for all to follow and look towards." There were many more words to come, but even these alone were enough to draw the young dwarf in, the words that gave direction, and a definition of how one was to behave in life. Looking to the guard who had come to stand close by, he asked how he might make these words a part of him, and was told to take up his weapon of choice and head to the academy to start. Looking to the enormous sword at the guards side, Bhowear sniffed with meaning and raised his fists. "Ah don't need anything between mehself and anyone 'at I'd need a weapon fer. The closer I kin git, the more pure it is when ah leave it." Nodding with a gruff laugh, the guard set him in the direction of the academy, and told him he'd seem him back there soon, to which Bhowaer agreed.

#36364, "Bhowaer's Role Chapter 2"
|
RoleChapter 2 When Words Become Actions Added Mon May 23 07:43:04 2011 at level 13:The words of a child were easy enough to get passed, and in time most people that knew Bhowaer expected him to point out things that he saw as impure, and knew that he lived by what he spoke of as well. With time though also came actions, and that was not as easy to be put aside. The most notable of his actions came when he was still young, but with the stature of a young man already. He was alone outside of Akan in a nearby village, when he came upon a seemingly well off human man that was older than he, but still young as well. As he came up the man on the side of a sparsely traveled village road, it became clear that the well dressed young man had someone cornered up against the meeting of two stone houses, where he could not get out without being allowed to by him. The other figure proved to be a boy as well, but with far less valuable clothing than his captor, and with various physical deformities that left him unable to even stand straight. It was clear as he got closer that the rich boy thought that the other was mocking him in some way, and was demanding reparations for the slight, whatever it was, which was met with a string of timid apologies and assurances that it would not happen again. Despite the words, roughing up seemed to be deemed in order by the taller boy, as he used his horse whip to slap the other on the back of his neck, exposed as it was with a pronounced hunch and bowing.
Observing the situation for a only moments, Bhowaer let his walking staff clatter to hard packed dirt and made his way closer, tugging off his thick gloves suitable for the cold mountain weather as he moved. Stepping up behind the richly dressed lad, he gave him a sharp rap on the shoulder which drew fer yer treatment o'em." Jaw dropping in disbelief, the other turned to face the much shorter dwarf and drew himself up straight, the way that rich folk do when speaking to commoners. "Just who do yo.." was all that he was able to say before Bhowear moved, jumping from the ground slightly to get himself closer to eye level, and snapping out with one fist in the blind of the eye. The fist hit the rich boy's nose squarely, and was met with a splattering of blood and a shriek as the nose snapped nearly flat from the impact. Frowning, Bhowaer stood over the weeping man, his fancy clothes quickly staining with his own blood, and began to lecture. He spoke of the proper treatment of those that are in need, and the duty of those that are better off to provide for them. He was still lecturing when a friend of the family found him there, and with some insistence led the still preaching dwarven boy away.

#36363, "Bhowaer's Role Chapter 1"
|
RoleChapter 1 A Different Sort of Child Added Mon May 23 07:38:16 2011 at level 13:Bhowaer was always looked at as odd early in life. He wasn't deformed, or slow of wit, but his behavior was so consistent that anyone that saw much of him took notice. Before old enough to speak, he was grew agitated when thing were not just right in his eyes. He fussed when he was dirty in any way, sulked incessantly when he did anything at all that drew reprimand, and once when a foul souled merchant from Udgaard was bold enough to try to ply his trade in Akan, the young toddler screamed with near feral rage when he was carried close enough to see them, and could not be calmed until the annoyed peddler was out of eyesight.
With age, and words, the behavior grew more noticeable. He had impeccable manners and respect for everyone, but if someone did anything wrong, he was not slow to point it out. He and his mother had a running argument of three straight days over a simple saying that she used at times that said, Idle hands are evil's playthings. He, still very young but having heard the saying many times, observed that the words were untrue. His mother laughed it off as nothing, but the boy would not let it go and pointed out various reasons of how someone's idle hands could not make his hands do anything he did not want them to. And even if busy with a task, those that are truly wicked of heart are mostly likely doing more wrong with their hands than even if they were idle. At first she continued to shake her head with humor at the argument, but after it went on for a day she tried to defend the words as having a shred of meaning, which only made things worse with her son, and after another day, she silently vowed to never utter the words again and prayed words of thanks when the boy ran out of thoughts to share on the matter. He pointed out more grievous offenses, such as words of Vain against the Gods sympathetic to those of good heart, words of disrespect to an elder, or overly harsh words from any elder to a youth. He pointed out anything that he saw as not being right, and he did so without malice or haughtiness, but he had no notion or regard for social queues as to when it is appropriate to be done, or perhaps simply regarded such limitations in speaking his mind.
