|
Borkahd Kahn'ku the Defiler of Righteous Chastity, Warlord of Battle
DescriptionThe massive figure before you stands at around eleven feet in height and holds himself with an imposing and confident stance, obviously fully aware that he towers over most others and that his massive muscular bulk can only be matched by others of his race. Scars which range in size and shape can be seen adorning most visible parts of his ebony flesh, the majority of which are obviously battle scars. His hair is twisted into thick locks of ruddy orange which are nearly as round as an average humans forearm and they dangle heavily, reaching nearly halfway down his back. His dark eyes are divided by his large and bulbous nose and would appear nearly black save for a thin ring of bright red which outlines them. His cold and predatory gaze appears full of contempt. His cheeks and jaw are covered with a thick beard of ruddy orange hair which is tied with bits of black leather into three thick braids that easily reach to his swollen chest. Broad shoulders support the weight of his ropy arms and protruding veins can be seen under the hair that covers them, obviously pushed up from the mass of muscle. His waist is nearly as wide as his shoulders and his muscular trunk-like legs ripple with every movement that this monstrous giant takes.

RoleChapter 13 Background and general information. Added Sat Dec 27 10:56:44 2008 at level 1:Borkahd was born to the Kahnku clan which consisted of only a few small families. He was born in Kiadana-Rah and lived there for most of his life. His father was a strong and cruel man outwardly but within the clan he knew his own form of loyalty and honor. Borkahd had a good life, for a fire giant. His clan had a few slaves which he enjoyed greatly. He used them for simple tasks, to take out his physical and sexual aggression on, and to practice his torture techniques. His clan was known to be a strong clan which gave them what appeared to be favor with the rulers of their community and they would flaunt it often.
His father was the oldest among his clan he believed that his children and the younger members of the clan were a direct reflection of himself so he strove to teach them the arts of combat, the benefits of aggression and cruelty, and confidence. The One Law was all that there was. Weakness was not an option with his father and was met by a swift and bloody beating. Repeated shows of weakness were met with slow death. His father had taught them that long ago a man known only as The Teacher came and taught the giants the ways of magic. In his view, the use of magic made their bodies weak. Soon some relied too heavily on magic and without it they were nothing. As his father always said, take the magic from a mage and they are worthless. Take a blade from a warrior and he will crush your skull with his bare hands. He held his disdain for magic openly and had contempt for all of its users.
When Borkahd was ninety years old his father had challenged one of the Rulers advisors, a dark knight, to a dual. He had made eye contact with his father and from a mage, that was unacceptable. His father demanded retribution in blood. The battle was long and bloody but at the end his father stood over a headless corpse, holding the head high in triumph. At that moment, other members of the mages clan fell upon him. They uttered the incantations of dark magic and stole his strength and sight, cursed his body and poisoned his blood. A countless number of lightning bolts arced towards him and, already wounded, it was too much for him to take. He fell, dead. Such a display of weakness was disgusting to Borkahd, their strongest was killed and in order to defeat his father, who was already wounded, it took numerous members of their clan. In his clan, if you were not strong enough to fight for yourself you were killed. The strongest live, the weak die. Had this other clan forgot the One Law? Why was such weakness permitted by their Ruler?

RoleChapter 4 Chaos in War and a talk with a Maran Added Wed Jan 28 08:37:31 2009 at level 51:Borkahd has recently completed reading a text on the use of chaos in war written by a duergar Warlord. The text told of many different situations where the Warlord had utilized the natural chaos brought about by conflict to his advantage, using it as a weapon against his foes. One such example sited a battle against a neighboring duergar clan where a fire raged across the battlefield, from one end of the cavern to the other. The Warlord utilized the way that the fire hindered the ability to breath, see, and to send in reinforcements. Both sides experienced the same initial effects of the fire but the difference was that the Warlord was able to see a way to take advantage quickly.
Most people have a natural fear of fire, it causes panic and hesitation. Both sides had a wall of flames between the main battle and their reinforcing waves. Realizing this, the Warlord ordered all of his reinforcements to move to the main battle, overwhelming the foes by sheer number before the opposing duergar could even see enough through the smoke to realize what had happened on the main battlefield. By the time the opposing force sent in their own reinforcements, their initial troops had been slaughtered. The text went on to explain how one can never truly prepare for chaos but one could embrace it once it occurred through knowledge, experience, and intuition. Borkahd plans to continue to study the concepts and to try and find ways to not only embrace and utilize chaos in combat but to be its source.
Borkahd has also begun to study the effects of psychological elements introduced into the battlefield as presented by a drow mistress. He has not yet completed the text but has already had a chance to experiment with what he has learned so far. He was recently engaged in a conversation by an old giant by the name of Humbert after forcing the Maran to retreat from his attack, bloody and beaten.
Despite thinking the concepts of good and evil are pointless, he does realize that there are others with a distorted perception of morals and other such nonsense and decided to capitalize on the opportunity. He had hoped to ingrain himself into the Marans mind and paint a picture of not only a strong barbarian but also one that is capable of, what the Maran would consider, great and specific evils. Borkahd is no longer just another ebony giant, he is now a monster. Humbert appeared very disturbed by their conversation and Borkahd will see if it caused any noticeable effects the next time the Maran strikes out at him. He hopes that the perception of the Maran coupled with Borkahds imposing presence, confidence, and use of eye contact will make a noticeable difference.

RoleChapter 5 Reunion Added Thu Jan 22 22:48:41 2009 at level 51:Borkahd received a scroll recently from one of his brothers who had left home with him requesting a reunion. He was glad to hear from him and to know at least one other of his clan still lived outside of the volcano, the fate of those still there he did not care about. The day came that the scroll requested the meeting and he traveled to Seantryn to see his brother after such a long time. The moment that he saw him he knew that he had succumbed to the charms of magic. He detected no trace with his eyes but he could simply sense it. A powerful magic clung to the giant before him, one he grew up with. Anger rose from his core but Borkahd had attempted to hide the fact that he knew his brother was using magic but readied himself mentally, warding himself against magic directed at him. He asked his brother of the others, hoping to gain a bit of information about where they are and his brother fell silent, simply grinning. In one swift movement his brother pushed off his cloak and pulled a massive axe from over his shoulder, it was concealed by his cloak. The axe radiated a powerful magic and Borkahd released a savage growl, drawing his ancient weapon that has been passed from Commander to Commander. He told Borkahd that he was the last soul of the clan he had to collect, the rest were already captured within his blade.
Without a second thought Borkahd swung a heavy blow at his brothers head but he avoided it, jumping back and chanting the names of demons. He seemed to grow stronger and faster as he completed his chant and uttered an incantation, stealing Borkahds sight. Borkahd instinctively focus on clearing his sight as he advanced, his vision growing clearer then before. A fierce battle ensued and Borkahd found himself on the losing end. He channeled his inner rage and his eyes glazed over. He no longer had to consider his actions before taking them, all of his training, experience, and studies came together. He was, at that instant, no longer a warrior in a war but the war itself. The battle raged on for what seemed like nearly the entire day until Borkahd ended it with a blow to his brothers face. He channeled all of his rage in the blow and Mana Crusher struck home, the only thing left of his brothers head was a mangled mess on the ground. A few seconds later, his body dropped and poured blood from the opening that was once a head and neck. Borkahd fell to his knees as the rage passed and noticed that not all of the blood was his brothers. He was covered with deep gashes but would survive, barely.
He pried his brothers unholy axe from his hand and tossed it to the side. Borkahd hefted his ancient mace over his head and uttered a prayer to Lady Yean before bringing it down with all of his might, destroying the axe. Tendrils of red and black energy drifted up from the shattered axe and vanished into the sky. Borkahd felt his inner fire grow once again.

RoleChapter 6 Fanning the flames. Added Wed Jan 14 08:27:21 2009 at level 50:Borkahd spoke with his goddess recently and realized how much he had changed. He couldnt quite explain how but knows he has grown stronger, he feels much different. They spoke about a theory that there is a flame within him. When he first left home it was just a spark. Soon that spark grew to a flame. Each new lesson in his guild and other similar events fans it a little more and larger events seem to feed it greatly. After the struggle to join the Rites, when he refused to accept failure and trained constantly, that flame grew much larger. When he was named Commander, it continued to fan the flame.
Each time his inner fire grows he feels transformed, better and stronger. Each time he feels different then before. He plans to continue to feed that fire until even others around him can feel it, he will never stop feeding it kindling. He sees it much like what his goddess had told him, "Do not simply fight in the war. Be the war." Perfection is not enough. He will be the war, be the fire, and never stop growing.

RoleChapter 7 Strongest of the strong: A struggle to join the Rites. Added Sun Jan 11 16:04:47 2009 at level 44:Borkahd has been training hard in order to be admitted into the Rites. He has studied quite a bit more then usual in both physical combat and tactical strategy. Before the Rites approached, he tried to learn all that he could about past Rites in an attempt to give himself an edge.
The day came and the Rites were called. Borkahd just barely made the requirements to participate, he worked hard to achieve it and would not accept failure. All of his foes had reached the pinnacle of their studies and he had but forty-four circles in his guild, he was at a handicap. In the physical combat, he did not preform as he had hoped. Group combat came and his tactical knowledge paid off. His group left the field victorious each time. Then the open field was called. Every warrior for himself. Borkahd had tried to utilize survival as his tool, striking quick and moving away in an attempt to remain healthy and allow the others to become more weakened. He was the fourth from last to be eliminated. Finally, the Test of Wits was called. Borkahd had heard his name called out along with four others. He had made it. A series of questions were asked and with each, he grew more confident. Once the others began to answer questions, Borkahd confidence was bolstered even more.
The questions drew to a close. Each warrior was anxious for the choice of the gods. At the end, he was named Commander. The Rites are a trial to see who is the strongest of the strong, it was his place to take. Strength is not only measured in physical aspects but aspects of knowledge and intuition. A complete fool can swing a weapon with the best of them but he will never be strong. Borkahd is the strongest. It is not simply enough to become a legend or to lead the strongest of the strong, one must always strive for more. He continues his studies and training to become a warlord and, as with the Rites, he will not accept failure.

|
RoleChapter 8 Observations and Rites Added Wed Jan 7 10:28:31 2009 at level 35:Since Borkahd has joined the Village he has not only been learning all that he can about their perspective of war but he has also assessed the other warriors that live there. For the most part, he is not impressed. Most lack intelligence or strength, a few may have one quality or the other but not both. When he first joined the Village, he knew his place. He knew that he was not yet stronger then the elder members but now that he grows through his guilds ranks that becomes less true every day. There are humans who speak as magi but dont seem to understand themselves, other giants of red who are barely worth the space they occupy, and floating giants who would forget their name if they didnt repeat it constantly. Knowing he grows stronger has seemed to increase his confidence and his thirst for strength.
Borkahd has realized that strength is not simply who can cave a skull in further with one blow but it is also the gathering and utilization of knowledge. It is learning from your mistakes and it is also how others see you, one can gain a large edge in combat if his foe knows fear. Strength is found in perfection. Having realized this, he has began to analyze his own fights more. He watches others fight to learn from them and continues to learn about wars of the past, striving to learn what he can. He remains a student of war. While language arts was not a major focus in his village or clan he is starting to see the importance of effective communication in a war and has tried to be more conscious of the words he chooses. His father had taught him how to read, thinking it important for passing along orders or working with maps, but verbal communication was never spoken of.
With the Rites having been called he has been trying to rise through his guilds ranks fast enough to join the bloody fray. He doubts that he will reach the pinnacle of his guilds teaching by then but feels that even with that disadvantage he can still prevail. The Rites of War will be a challenge, others there will be older and more learned but considering his disadvantage he knows he will make an impression and do well. Who better to win the Rites of Wits then one who aspires to be a Warlord? He is surprised that many of the others are even capable of cognitive thought.

#35622, "Borkahd's Role Chapter 9"
|
RoleChapter 9 Lessons in war: First studies Added Sat Jan 3 22:54:02 2009 at level 26:Borkahd recently learned of a war that took place long ago. There was a hoard which was marching on an elven position. War drums were echoing through the air, a grisly call to war and a harbinger of certain bloodshed. The hoard included orcs, shaman, magi, and ogres. Their numbers were many, as far as the eye could see.
A small group of elves, perhaps thirty, were sent out to scout. A usual patrol for them. They heard the drums and spotted the troops. Their hearts filled with fear of what was to come. They were the first line of defense against the approaching hoard and if their allies at home were not alerted to the coming invasion it meant certain death. They had to hold off the invaders long enough to get word back about their approach. One of the elves moved swiftly home to call the others to arms, the rest remained led by an elven woman to hinder their progress.
The battle was bloody and the elves fought well but the hoard was just too much. Despite the elven woman slaughtering many of the invaders, she found herself standing with only one other ally. They both soon fell on the blood-covered battleground. The story became a bit hazy after that but some significant event seemed to have occurred. However, it would seem they held them off long enough for word to get back to mobilize their own armies.
Borkahd enjoyed the story, bloodshed always seems to lighten his day. Especially when cute little elves are slaughtered and to toss some dead orcs into the story truly did keep his attention. He learned a few things from this, the first was to never underestimate a foe. The elven woman managed to destroy many of the approaching hoard before her own death. Even one that can appear so frail and weak may hold boundless strength and courage. However, despite the elven thoughts on self sacrifice, he feels it was a stupid choice. He believes they should have sent the weakest on a chase, flanking the orcs to draw their attention and delay them while the others returned to their home, warning the other soldiers. The weak are nothing but worthless fodder anyway. The strongest of the elves could have made the difference in the war to come instead of simply throwing away her life.
Do not underestimate your foes and self-sacrifice is usually a poor choice. Weigh all options before making a choice in war and do not allow your judgement to get clouded by notions of what is the good or moral thing to do. There is no glory in a pointless death, especially when there are those weaker that can be sacrificed.

#35616, "Borkahd's Role Chapter 3"
|
RoleChapter 3 Remembering Added Sun Feb 1 23:02:39 2009 at level 51:Made mostly of wood, bones, and various hides the largest hut within the village had a rather imposing and grisly appearance coupled with the constant scent of death and decay. Occasional screams of pain and pleads for help and mercy would echo through the village, originating from this hut. Before the large entrance was a dirt path which was lined with skulls in various stages of decomposition mounted atop crude stakes. Within the hut a fire burned and a lone figure sat before it, tending to his weapons and looking over various texts which he had piled to his right. This massive figure wore only a ragged loincloth and sweat glistened off of his heavily scarred ebony flesh. His large locks of ruddy hair clung to his skin and a few seemed to tangle in with his thick beard. A scream for help filled the hut and his dark eyes locked onto a naked figure tied in the back of the hut, the red rim which outlined them seemed to almost glow in the dim light of the fire. Instantly she fell silent and he returned to his work, tending the ancient weapon that came with his position as Commander and studying the texts of war.
As Borkahd sat there he thought back over his life thus far. He remembered how his father had died and how he had left home with but a handful of his clan. He remembered the path which led him to this village and the struggle he faced as he grew. He recalled his first meeting with Lady Yean and how much he has learned since then, how much stronger he has become and how intense the fire has grown within himself. He remembered when the Rites were called, shortly after he joined the village, and the challenge of growing enough to participate. He recalled the Rites and the difficulty he had facing those who were much more advanced in their studies but still rose to become the strongest of the strong, the Commander of Battle. He remembered facing his brother and recalled the wounds he had endured to defeat him in combat and how that was one of the first times he truly became one with the battle.
His life has not seen comfort and he is glad, comfort breeds weakness. It has been full of trials, wins, and defeats. He has studied hard but not only from texts but from his own perceptions and experiences as well. He has faced outnumbering odds many times and often escaped the victor. He has made the village stronger through example, a firm hand, and guidance. Borkahd is glad that this is his life, one of true strength. He knows he will never stop growing or learning and in turn he will never stop growing stronger, his inner fire will continue to rage and consume his foes.
His current goals are to continue leading the warriors of the village and help it, as a whole, to grow stronger. He plans to study more about psychological warfare soon, he has found a good text on it that was written by a drow, and he hopes to earn the mark of his goddess one day.

|
RoleChapter 2 The Way of the Strong. Living the One Law. Added Wed Feb 25 09:19:49 2009 at level 51:Borkahd has recently written another text of war. A copy follows.
The way of the strong, living the One Law.
1. The One Law is strength. It is all that matters.
2. The strong will survive, the weak will be destroyed. Weakness only breeds more weakness.
3. The strong have the right to take what or who they will. There are none that can say nay. If one opposes, destroy them. The strong have the right to do as they will.
4. The weak have no right to live, no right to address the strong. They are pathetic and deserve death.
5. Strength is achieved through combat prowess, use of successful tactics, and knowledge.
6. Stupidity breeds weakness.
7. Comfort breeds weakness. Always strive for more. Test yourself.
8. To be a legend is not enough. Once you reach one ledge, find another. Always reach higher. Never settle. To settle means you have become weak and worthless and thus deserve death. Only the strong may live.
9. Successful use of clear communication is important in war.
10. Know your foes weakness and strike at it.
11. Intimidation is an effective tactic in war. Make your foes fear you. Make those that have never met you fear you. May your name bring fear.
12. Use the chaos of war to your advantage. If the fields burn fight through the choking and blinding smoke before your foe can compensate.
13. Observe parity. If you can not defeat your foe with even numbers, you are weak. If you can destroy multiple foes at once, they will know fear.
14. Fear brings hesitation. Hesitation brings mistakes. Mistakes bring death. Know no fear.
15. Control your hatred. Blind rage brings mistakes. Master your rage, do not let it master you. When the time is right, unleash it and destroy your foe.
16. When you can not reach your foe, strike at their soul. Destroy their family, rape their females, and burn their fields. Either rage or terror will consume them. Both to your advantage.
This is the way of the strong. Written by:
Warlord Borkahd Kahn'ku the Strategic Bastion of the One Law Commander of Battle and follower of the Sublime Lady

#35614, "Borkahd's Role Chapter 1"
|
RoleChapter 1 Pondering himself. Added Sat Feb 28 22:40:59 2009 at level 51:A towering ebony giant stood before a large hut, the scent of death and decay carried strongly in the nights breeze. He watched silently as the members of this village moved about in the dark night. Some sat near fires cleaning the bones of recently slain mages, others sharpened their blades, and yet others simply lounged and drank ale deeply.
The giant considered his past and how far he has came, he thought about what he was and what he has turned into. He is a beast, a dark predator. At times he does not even feel mortal, it is as if he is on another plane of existence and so much different from the others. Perhaps all of his actions have changed him even more so then the other ebony giants, drow, or deep dwarves. Perhaps he is more. His inner flames have grown strongly and at times he believes that he can actually see them, black tendrils of translucent flames that dance upon his dark and scarred flesh. He wonders if others can as well.
Foes who once hunted him now tremble at his name and scurry out of his path like pathetic insects startled by a torch in a dark cave. He considered the way that he feels large, larger then what he truly is. He always feels as if he is looking down upon the other members of Thera, almost as if they are not even truly there. He may fall but yet he knows that he is the strongest warrior in Thera but it seems like so much more.
The massive giant furrows his brow for a moment in silent regard and turns to his hut, walking along the bone path to its wide entrance. Pushing the tanned flesh tarp aside, he hungrily focuses his attention on a beaten elf. Screams and cries for mercy and death echo through the darkened village. The screams go unanswered.
