Hralpelk Junnatin the Legend of the Battlefield, Anathema to the Empire
DescriptionSetting your gaze upon this loathsome duegar. A grimy blob of grease and dirt about five feet in height, he appears to be hunched over, having a curve to his back. His face is scarred and scrunched giving birth to a long beard and mustache which extend to nearly his waist. Parted in two unequal halves, his facial hair appears to be matted and stained with many things from food to drink. Broken yellowed teeth jut haggardly from beneath a permanent grin. His clothing is in good repair though, ironically, as if he cares about his implements of war and not about his hygiene. He is muscular and stout, and moved with a certain quickness, He has a bald pate and a squashed nose as well as dark beady eyes.
A small hourglass is attached to a black and silver collar around his neck rocking to and fro as he moves.

RoleChapter 7 Competition and Liosthen Added Wed Jan 12 00:12:55 2011 at level 51:One thing that, though he will not admit it, bothers Hralpelk is how he views himself compared to others of Chemarcan's faithful. He is competitive, and wants to know that he serves well, better than Liosthen. He found out through a slip of the High Priest's tongue that Liosthen had met the Adept of Suffocation before him, something that made his stomach turn. This meant, to him, that Liosthen was still serving the Lord admirably.
Thus, Hralpelk fervently seeks to please Chemarcan and earn his favor, confident that though he will soon be in the prison of his Lord, he will punish the unjust and live up to his lifelong position as the Lord's Gaoler.

RoleChapter 6 The Undaerkthe, Chemarcan, and Anathema Life Added Wed Jan 12 00:08:48 2011 at level 51:Hralpelk Junnatin published a treatise so Thera would know of his stance, but life as an anathema has been hard.
Many roving bands hunt for his head and often do they find it, though Hralpelk is not a pushover and prides himself on being strong enough to warrant the numbers, and potent enough to handle his foes as they come. A few key events linger in his mind.
After a long silence from his Lord, Chemarcan, Hralpelk found himself introduced to the Adept of Suffocation. Unsure of her exact position, Hralpelk believes she is the right hand of Chemarcan. Despite the fact that Hralpelk has been punishing the unjust as swiftly and vigorously as he can, the Adept was not impressed. Hralpelk was not disappointed though, but rather instead rose his head to the task she set him. Bring the Lord the Empress's head, or be punished. Which was fitting.
Hralpelk responded in good time, though the Empress had her ever present entourage, and his first attempt failed, causing him to fall, he later regrouped and recruited the aid of the magistrate, Miyatzi to aid against the criminal Empress. He organized and ordered the trap that Miyatzi obediently rigged and began the strike. All did not go as planned though, for the invoker was forced out of the combat leaving Hralpelk against three of them on his own.
Which was fine. A few short blows later, and Hralpelk stood over the Empress's body. This was very gratifying. But rather than take his victory, Hralpelk, as always, had to push the envelope and pursued the fleeing Shadow Lord. As a result, he was knocked unconscious and Lam and Faolai had time to wait his Hralpelk to drift slowly to the ground before publically humiliating him in front of the Empress and the blade he had slain earlier(Chzar).
He briefly told the Empress he would take the position of War Master if offered, but that this was a one time offer, and sought out the Dark Warlock to offer such as well, however the Empress insisted she was content with Zasowski and so Hralpelk, his offer declined, furthers his efforts with the Undaerkthe. Which brings us to the second thing of note.
The Undaerkthe, and the drow weaponsmaster who leads them have been boons to Hralpelk, doing deals in the shadows and unexpectedly helping Hralpelk when the hordes are closing in. The drow weaponsmaster is intent on the head of the Empress, and since Hralpelk has finally achieved such, he is eager to see what the dark-elf thinks of his accomplishment. Though he is slightly skeptical that the dark-elves are going to tear apart the Palace and in it's void chaos and those who need punishing will come into existence, he is equally confident that if such is the case, he will punish them and restore order.

RoleChapter 5 The Laws that Govern Hralpelk, and his Beliefs. Added Sun Jan 2 21:08:01 2011 at level 51:The Laws and Beliefs of Hralpelk
*The Tribunal, while not always right or just, must be respected. As such, Hralpelk will refrain from striking in a protected town unless it is in retaliation to having just been struck.
*Those who are criminals or Outlanders must be punished. They lack the ability to serve the Lord of Imprisonment willingly and must be forced by death.
*Dwarves must be punished.
*All those of the Light must be punished, for their virtue would inhibit them from justly serving the Lord.
*The Village, shall be taken on a case by case basis. While Hralpelk is ambivalent to their war, those that are marked a criminal, are dwarf, or due to history cannot be reconciled with shall still be punished.
*The Nexus, Hralpelk is ambivalent to, unless they are of dwarven descent in which case they must be punished.
*The Scions, like the village, shall be taken on a case by case basis. If a criminal etcs, they shall be punished.
Hralpelk, having too much pride to fully belittle himself to serve another after having been an elite blade so long recognizes that his allies will be few and far between. Thus, he will try to salvage what relationships with the Nexus, Scions, and Village that he can so as to give himself some allies. He will also likely befriend other Anathema when possible.

|
RoleChapter 4 Disenchantment and Disillusionment Added Sun Jan 2 21:06:03 2011 at level 51:Hralpelk is disenchanted. Disillusioned. Omork being an elite blade is insulting. Draktun is a fool. And the two coddle so much over the Inferno that Hralpelk is unsure what to think. Sure, the Inferno is of use. It, of course, needs to be dominated by Imperial Might from time to time so that the Imperials may better dominate their true foes. But it is just that, a tool. Instead, the Imperials are focused around it. Even the priest Liosten who showed him the way to his Lord, the great Chemarcan, the true Lord of Imprisonment, is infatuated and obsessed with the Inferno.
But that, that would be bearable. Instead it seems that the Inferno is valued by the Council, and Omork was promised a position as an Elite. Hralpelk thinks because of his knowledge of the Inferno, but cannot be certain.
Furthermore, they are all co-dependent. None of them can act on their own. Certainly, the mentality of a pack is not to be looked down upon all the time. Hralpelk knows that many of his battles were won because of aid from his allies. But at times...it is overkill. It is offensive to the ones going to war to bring the numbers they do.
And yet more causes him discomfort. The mentality of the Imperials, generally, is pathetic. The Empress making snide comments about the new dwarven commander being named at so young reeks with lack of respect and bitterness, as do many others. They snicker and smirk at things that they are embittered by, or do not respect. Such causes Hralpelk disgust for he understands that they all are pawns in a larger, bigger scheme and that changes are coming. The Empire has no interest it seems, in anything except the insides of each other's anuses and the depths of the Pit.
This has caused Hralpelk to decide that when the whole council next wakes, and the Empire is at large, he will speak out and give a tongue lashing to all of the Imperials for their collective disgraceful nature and take the Anathema with a high chin.
He will of course, still be loyal to the Lord that he has pledged himself to and will continue to mete out punishment and uphold his Will. Hralpelk knows that he will need guidance, and so will draft his own, personal laws to follow. Perhaps if the Imperials change their nature, and a few of the Council pass away, he will petition for re-entry to the Empire, but as they are now, he no longer has any interest in them.
The Prophecy of War holds a lot of interest to Hralpelk and he intends to pursue whatever that may hold in store for him, and try to work it to his best ability.

RoleChapter 3 Further strange happenings Added Wed Dec 29 15:08:17 2010 at level 51:And so, he was hunted. Within hours after Hralpelk raised the alarm of the dark-elves meeting with him and attempted subversion the clicks of crossbows echoed in his ears and he stumbled to the Palace, with the Empress in tow. There the dark-elf weaponsmaster decided to make an impression.
With a knife to Hralpelk's throat he slandered all that Hralpelk had warned the Empire of, making Hralpelk out as a fool. He convinced the Empress to make Hralpelk swear that he would drop the 'nonsense he had overheard' and then silently whispered in Hralpelk's ear that when the Palace burned, his best men would come for him.
Hralpelk would have been extremely displeased except for after the meeting the Empress told him that he had done a good job scouting, so perhaps she had not believed all of what the strange dark-elf said. Never the less, Hralpelk knows that he alone knows the whole truth and thus he is on the alert for the great conquest. He is unsure where Frosthammer, Doban, and whoever the spider-marked fit in to all of this, but he knows it cannot be good. Thus he has placed a 10 gold bounty on Frosthammer's head, to slow him as much as possible.
Ever watchful, Hralpelk is extremely curious of these strange going ons and is eager to play a part.

|
RoleChapter 2 The Dilemma and the Choice. Added Sun Dec 26 19:21:26 2010 at level 51:Hralpelk is faced with yet another dilemma.
When he was younger, he engaged in a raid among Akan. The guards, priests, and King were not pleased. Least pleased of all was Ghrimriddor Frosthammer.
The dwarf intrigued him, especially when shortly after the orcs attacked Voralian City yelling about the head of Frosthammer.
Hralpelk wished the dwarf's head as well and thus placed a bounty of 10 gold on the dwarf's head. Then in the midst of fighting against seemingly overwhelming odds he was accosted by a figure cowled and cloaked in shadows, a dark-elf weaponsmaster. The weaponsmaster approached him with a proposition.
Now Hralpelk Junnatin was merely a duergar seeking to make his fortune through his strength. The Empire was a natural choice for such and the servitude of Chemarcan followed almost naturally. Now he is left with a dilemma. On one hand he knows that the dark-elves, barbarians, and orcs plan to strike the Empire. It is sure to be a bloody ordeal. They want him to be their inside man. To betray the Empire from within and help the assaulting forces assume victory.
On the other hand, Hralpelk is in good standing within the Empire. He is poised for rising to the position of an Elite Blade. Also, he is Liosthen's right hand and thus a high ranking individual in the growing church that Liosthen is slowly building under Chemarcan. To be caught in this subterfuge is to throw away all the progress he has made.
Thus, after much debate Hralpelk has decided not to aid the dark-elves in their wishes but instead raise the alarm of the oncoming assault and attempt to defy the odds by turning it back. Though it will be a bloody ordeal, fending off the conquest would almost assuredly give him power and fortune beyond his dreams.

RoleChapter 1 Becoming a Blade and Meeting Chemarcan Added Mon Dec 20 09:52:19 2010 at level 32:Hralpelk Junnatin was raised in Aran'gird. The clan society is brutal and highly competitive as the varying families vie for the King's favor. A promising young warrior for his rarely-heard of mining clan, consorting with a duergar lass who was out of his caste was his undoing. When the girl's parents found out, they demonized up and as a result he was exiled.
And so, Hralpelk went to the surface. There, he began to train and seek out a possibly way to make his fortune, relying on his natural skills- his strength, mainly. In short order, he found himself a promising young blade of the Empire. But that did not prepare him for his meeting with Liosthen. The Priest, and Seivelli, an anti-paladin were pledged into service of the Lord of Imprisonment, Chemarcan. Hralpelk hadn't been the religious type, but the priest had a way with words and Hralpelk was intrigued and so he agreed to dip his head in prayer and meet with the Lord of Imprisonment, the god of Law and Punishment heard their prayers.
Words cannot describe the events that followed. Simply awestruck at the domineering might that Chemarcan displayed over he and his companions, Hralpelk willingly went into service of the darklord, to deal out punishment in his name, serve faithfully under him using his strength to carry out his will and work alongside his priest, Liosthen.
And so now, Hralpelk is a blade of the Empire, and a devout of Chemarcan. Luckily, the two do not seem to be mutually exclusive and his future is all the more promising.
