Rodborough Ocath-Tilimbryn the Paragon of Fortitude
DescriptionA male human of slim build and over 6 ft tall stands here. His clothes are well kept and he seems to revel in the finery and quality tailoring. His eyes are always shifting and they continually dart and scan over the surroundings. Dark brown, shiny hair protrudes from below his head wear. Below the hairline are those eyes, brightest blue and extremely vibrant looking. This is a young man full of the very thrill of life in this modern-day world. His face is an image of an angelic child and the structure seems quite peculiar in that it looks almost carved like a fine statue. In curiousity at such fine bones you glance to the side of his head and see the tell-tale signs of elven ancestory. Not a human at all, for all his bulk but a half-elven male at least. You find it hard to imagine him to be a danger as his eyes appear kind and his face approachable but his face hardens on occasion as another side surfaces from beneath his beautiful features. Among his finery you notice particularly that he wears:

RoleChapter 10 The Apprenticeship begins Added Thu Jun 24 13:25:35 2010 at level 28:Rodborough trudged up to the Noldarian Forge, Shrine to the Lord Hammersong himself. As he entered he could sense something different in the air this time. The air was hotter and Veldrar was shouting louder and harder than before. Maybe this time would be when the Lord Hammersong would choose to act on Rodborough's prayers and commune with him before the forge.
As Rodborough approached the bridge he saw the inspiring figure of the Hammersong standing beside two seasoned looking veterans of war, one a pale giant and the other a pale elf, likely one who has turned from the light but Rodborough looked past them to the focus of his faith and resilience.
He felt the gaze of the Hammersong fall upon him and a voice echoed in the forge that told Rodborough that his worship had not gone unnoticed and that his faith was well placed and that he should meet the Lord Hammersong in the dark woods near the frozen wastes in a short while after his deity was done with these warriors.
Rodborough made the journey in quiet contemplation of what was to happen before him. Time to think about his goals, his life that lies ahead and even more time to think about the seemingly impossible opportunity to apprentice under the Master Smith himself.
At a large pine tree in the dark forest Rodborough was about to gave a small prayer to let his God know that he was in the woods as requested but the omnipotence of the Gods had the Hammersong step before him from nothingness. Rodborough bowed respectfully before the Hammersong scrutinised his soul with his gaze and then spoke to him.
Rodborough was pleased at the nature of his chosen deity as he pulled no punches and spoke plainly and succinctly like his father, obviously a no nonsense trait of working the forge. They discussed Rodborough's life to date, his trails, his successes and his future plans. Rodborough too, was plain in his responses and honest before his Lord and it had obviously pleased the Hammersong who placed his thumb upon Rodborough's head as a mark of acceptance. Rodborugh's whole body pulsated and the air seemed to taste of metal. He could hear the trees and the fauna all around him as if it were right on his shoulder. It truly was the greatest feeling he has ever experienced. The Hammersong had filled Rodborough with a link to his power, through Rodborough's faith he would lead his crusade against the coming darkness and as the Hammersong told him to go forth, he bestowed one last gift upon him, that of the virtue of temperance.
'You are tempered like the Anvil on which the hammer pounds!' The words echoed in Rodborough's head as he returned to the guild full of pride and purpose.

|
RoleChapter 8 How to continue? Added Fri Jun 4 13:31:08 2010 at level 18:Inside the Halls the eyes often lingered too long on Rodborough for no one barring Tugo, Gulgyt and himself knew the real reasons that Dabrivun wanted him banished and so many of the new petitioners were warey of him. That said, they did not fear him in combat for they knew they had the distinct advantage over him, given the stipulations of Dabrivun's last request.
Rodborough was indeed down on his fortune and longed now to be at home with his mother and father. Tugo and Gulgyt had both noticed this and really felt for him and so sent for a rather old but highly decorated retiree of the crusades to come and speak to him.
The old paladin knight was called Gwynfor Dai Daffyd and was regarded by many as being a little soft in the head after his many years of crusades, wars and bumps on the helm. Rodborough was to spend evening prayers with Gwynfor to try and ignite the spark with in him once more.
A few weeks in and Rodborough had already taken to Gwynfor as the wise grandfather he never met. This was when Rodborough opened up about the difficulties he faced in the Halls and how they seemed insurmountable, how he had never won a sparring session and how he feels he has let down his mother and father. Gwynfor told him straight and to the point and Rodborough soaked up all the wisdom that spilt from Gwynfor in their meetings.
'Did the paladin always knows the ways of the Avenger and the Defender? No, they were born out of hard times, forged like a blade your father would make to do a certain job at a certain time. How can your use of your hands not be as devastating as the sword? Is the sword, mace and shield not just an extension of your hands and arms anyway?'
'You will have to have a deeper faiht than most and a great concentration that all if you have a will to succeed but you cannot do that while you weep about that which you cannot use, you must use that which you have. You are strong, lean, quick and have a wise head on your shoulders and a good elven heart that beats beneath your chest'.
'If you use that which you have and that which your combatant does not expect to your advantage you can be a great paladin knight and no mother or father could be more proud. I taught your mother you know and she was by far the greatest student I had seen come through these Halls. It was under no cloud of shame that she left, it was because we could not risk you, the unborn inside her, getting hurt. That is not our way. The only ones who felt shamed were your uncle and your grandfather and your mother chose you and your father over both of them. That kind of love is a strength that few paladins will ever possess. Never forget that the same strength resides in you.'

RoleChapter 7 Revelations and accusations. Added Fri Jun 4 13:29:44 2010 at level 18:'You, she, can't....no' were the only conherant words utter from Dabrivun as he walked away from Rodborough. Gulgyt moved to hand Rodborough the scroll again and Dabrivun turned back quickly and shouted 'I hereby banish you from the Halls!'
Tugo was quick to respond 'You have not the authority alone to do such High Elder, for what reason do you seek to banish him?'
Gulgyt added 'Yes, it must be agreed as a three for banishment'.
Dabrivun motioned them to him before adding 'He is the son of Talinesha, half-born and a disgrace to the name Tilimbryn and I will not have him here to disgrave my family name'.
The other two elders spoke almost in unison, 'This is not the halls of Tilimbryn, they are the Halls of Sashethi and any who prove worthy can study here, we are sorry but he stays'.
Tugo addressed the square 'There is no one banished today. Any who are worthy my stay and study in the Halls of Sashethi!'
Dabrivun took his moment as the murmurs died down and added 'I am to step down as High Elder of the Halls and take a crusade out to face the Dominion of the Empire! As leaving High Elder I get one request and so make it now. The owner of this sword shall never wield it or any weapon within Sashethi and shall never join the Avengers or the Defenders', and with a smirk to Rodborough he stepped down from the Dias and back into the Halls.
Gulgyt and Tugo conversed for a while before addressing Rodborough, asking 'You still wish to enter the Halls young man?' to which Rodborough gave an emphatic 'Yes, Yes I do'.

|
RoleChapter 6 Petitioning the Halls Added Fri Jun 4 13:28:57 2010 at level 18:Rodborough stood amongst the many pledges in the vast square at Sashethi. Elves, men, dwarves and blue skinned giants filled the square, their armors clanking as they bustled past one another. A solitary 'GONG' announced the iminent arrival of the three Sashethi elders. Those, like Rodborough, who had not yet put on their armors did so now and as Rodborough put on his helm he looked up to see the three elders take their places on the large dias at the end of the square. Tugo the dwarf with his mace and shield, Elder of the Defenders, stood to left. Gulgyt the giant with his massive sword, Elder of the Avengers stood to the right and in the centre was Dabrivun Tilimbryn, his uncle, who no longer bore arms as the High Elder but who still bore a sheathed sword by his side and a shield hung over his back to mark him as having risen from the ranks of the defenders.
The petitioners filed into two ranks, in front of Tugo and Gulgyt, depending on wether they wished to train as defenders or avengers. Rodborough joined the rank and file of those who wished to be taught under Gulgyt as an avenger.
Gulgyt inspected everyone who passed and mutter a small prayer to stare deep within their soul before awarding them a scroll of admittance or a small lead figurine that meant they were unsuitable to become a paladin knight. Rodborough approached Gulgyt with confidence and did not wilt under his appraising eye or penetrating gaze as he peered into Rodborough's soul. Gulgyt nodded approvingly and motioned to pass the scroll of admittance to Rodborough but as he did so a loud and cutting voice spoke out, 'Stop! You there!'
Everyone in the near vicinity stopped and looked to where High Elder Dabrivun was pointing. Rodborough turned to see no one behind him and then knew that it was himself that was the 'You' in question. As he turned back Dabrivun Tilimbryn was already up in his face and demanding an explanation as to why he had the armors and sword that his mother gave him.
Dabrivun thought him a thief and was clearly angry at him owning the sword and armors but his anger was nothing to the shock as Rodborough explained that they belonged to his mother. A few moments passed and still not a sound was heard in the square as all eyes watched what unfolded between Rodborough and the High Elder Dabrivun. Dabrivun, losing himself for a moment, grabbed Rodborough by the head and pushed back his hair to reveal the tell tale sign of his elven heritage then he stood back, his mouth a gaping maw.

#32890, "Rodborough's Role Chapter 4"
|
RoleChapter 4 True callings Added Fri Jun 4 13:27:02 2010 at level 18:On his 28th year of being, Rodborough was helping his father in the forge when some of the tree soot escaped from a bag that fell from a high shelf and ignited with explosive force. the resulting explosion ripped away half of the Forge and the front end of the Blacksmith Shoppe, throwing Rodborough and Euanis out onto the cobbled road.
As Rodborough got up and rubbed his head he almost started to laugh at his own fortune but quickly he realised that his father was not so fortunate. Euanis lay still, his blade tongs jammed into his left side, with blood seeping from the wound. Rodborough felt a surge of helplesness overwhelm him for a moment but he soon shook it off as he made his way to his father, pulled out the blade tongs and did what he thought best, pressing his knee onto the wound to stem the flow of blood as he called for help.
Talinesha had rushed up the cobbled street after hearing the explosion and feared the worst. Rodborough did not notice her arriving, you seldom do when elves approach. Her hands moved rapidly as she administered first aid and then she laid her hands on Euanis' head and heart and murmered a soft prayer that saw her hands gleam bright purifying white. Rodborough was stunned and it was a good few minutes of his mother asking if he was alright before he did register her voice speaking to him. She looked back at Euanis with a great intensity and Rodborough watched as the wounds began to heal and so lifted his blood soaked knee from his father's side. Other villagers and townspeople were arriving now and asking if they were alright and if there was anything they could do to which Talinesha replied that they need no aid, they were lucky no one was injured badly and gave thanks for the offers. Rodborough looked quizically at his mother but said nothing as they helped his father back towards what was left of their home.
The damage was not as severe as first thought and Rodborough helped the masons and the other craftsman to rebuild the outer walls quickly so that the wind and rain was kept at bay. Talinesha was also trying to avoid being in a room alone with Rodborough at this time and would quickly find an errand that needed doing if Rodborough tried to speak of what he saw his mother do to his father on the cobbles, that day.
Talinesha knew, however, that it was only a matter of time now before her son would allow himself to be distracted from his questions and so she climbed up into the loft and brought down the leather bound chest that contained her armors and her two-handed sword. She sat by the fire and waited for Rodborough to come home and to explain her past to him.
As expected, Rodborough was very excited and in some ways, awe-struck, at his mother and even more so as he found out that he was the nephew of Dabrivun Tilimbryn, Elder of the Halls of Sashethi. All he had ever dreamed about being now seemd possible, even probable.

#32888, "Rodborough's Role Chapter 2"
|
RoleChapter 2 The Tilimbryn Dynasty Added Fri Jun 4 13:25:29 2010 at level 18:For almost as long as the House of Sashethi has been founded, the noble elven family known as the Tilimbryn have sent their heirs and heiresses to the Halls to train as paladins and uphold the great honour of the family and great tradition there in.
It was about 50 years ago that Talinesha and Dabrivun came to the Halls to continue the tradition as the youngest heirs of Tilimbryn. They were unusual in that they were twin born and both survived the birthing but it was also fortold at their birth that they would be responsible for a great change in the Halls of Sashethi and one of them would bring about an end to the Empire's dominion of far away lands. It was said that "Two will be forged as one and bring a new purity to the Halls and the lands will be scourged of Dominion".
Some people, elves included, buckle under the pressure of such foretelling but Talinesha and Dabrivun thrived upon it and impressed their teachers at the Halls both in scripture knowledge, application and martial study. In each of their groups, Avengers and Defenders, they rose to the top of the standings and in sparring they were only really a match for each other. In all the many years of Tilimbryns entering and studying in the Halls there had never been better than these two.
However, things were to change for the worst when Talinesha was examined by the Hall physician and found to be with child. Her shame was great at the disappointment from her masters and most of all from her brother Dabrivun and her family back home but the love she felt for the child's father was greater than the shame she felt at letting down her teachers, with all their high hopes for her.
What she had not banked upon was the true reaction from her father upon returning from the Halls under this cloud. He was furious beyond rational thought and when they argued and she revealed that the father was the Hall's Blacksmith, Euanis he went beyond any type of anger she had ever seen. For one who had been taught the ways of the paladin in the Halls himself and always preached about tolerance, his attitude to the thought of his own daughter giving birth to a half-breed was both arrogant and disgraceful and so she told him before leaving to the sound of 'You are no daughter of Tilimbryn, you are never to return!'
