Chapter 1

My journey is one that begins as a citizen of Hillcrest. I joined
the guild of Shapeshifter's there. The community of Hillcrest is
a closely-knit. We have everything that any city does, but I feel
we do things more efficiently. It does not require a whole lot of
material things to be wealthy where we are from. As wealthy is
better described as living happily.

I was able to join the Shapeshifter guild in Hillcrest because of
my mother and father, a tavern waitress and farmer, respectively.
They paid my way through the academy, because they wanted to see
me become more successful than what they were. I figure that is
just something common for parents.

After finishing the academy and learning the basic insights of
Shapeshifting, I needed to set out and begin making a living for
myself. Maybe it is something in my blood or in my bones, or more
specifically, in my heritage, but I felt the need to learn more.
Going through the academy truly opened my eyes to the world out-
side of our village.

I set out to visit the Consortium, a fine establishment of Magic
and Research. After visiting and speaking with a few officials
there, I came across a woman by the name of Eliana Vienthi. She
is the Curator of the Consortium. I know it certainly wasn't for
my looks or charm, but she asked if I was looking for work. And
before I knew it, I was an apprentice curator.

I spent several years there at the Consortium, all the while I
was learning as much as I could possibly take in and still keep
my sanity. But still, I thirsted for more knowledge beyond this
place. They were kind enough to provide me with essentials during
my tenure. But they had to know I would eventually leave. It was
difficult saying farewell to lady Eliana.

The main reason for leaving the Consortium was because of a letter
that I happened to get a hold of through various means. It was
a letter from the Tribunal, stating that they were searching for
Magistrates with particular requirements. I thought to myself that
I meet these requirements, and figured it would be a good way to
finally earn my own way, gain repute, and continue my studies.

And now here I am, a Magistrate of the Tribunal. I have remained
true to my personal goals of gaining in power in terms of guild
advancement. Though I have also learned that I enjoy being a
Magistrate. It is a chaotic, bloody battle at times. But that is
their purpose--to bring order where there is chaos. I hope to help
keep cities safe so that other aspiring mages may prosper.
