Chapter 7

Yaeliens eyes know only darkness. Her body knows only pain and molestation.
In her waking mind she knows nothing of who she is or was. In her waking
mind all she knows is fear and pain. She has a secret however, that when she
is allowed to sleep or when her body and mind can take no more and
unconsciousness comes like a savior, she is free of this prison.

Chapter 6

Draeskel is known as a simple mage, transmutation his lifes work, of little
more than passable ability. He has devoted his life to trying to discover
some new magic that might impress the Scions that are known to reside south
of the eastern city of Hamsah Mutazz. He knows that with their stores of
knowledge he could be the great mage he has always dreamed of being.

His latest project over the last few years has been trying to discover how
the elven races were manipulated to be turned into orcs. If he can figure
out the key to the dark magic, he might possibly be able to use the same
formula to infect people of Thera with those shadow creatures the Scions
deal with. It took some practice to not kill his subjects. He went through
half a dozen elven children before he managed that feat alone. Gods know how
expensive they are to buy from slavers. This latest purchase seems to be
made of sterner stuff, it might be the wood-elven heritage as opposed to the
high elven toddlers he had. He had thought she was about to die from the
tests about eight months ago, but then she seemed to miraculously grow
healthier again. More variables to test. He keeps the child, just shy of
being an adolescent, in a cellar that has been converted to a makeshift lab
and prison cell. He has had her for several years and put a great deal of
effort into corrupting her physical body. A slew of iron torture implements
he had made specially for this work. Everything from simple skewers to
complicated lathe looking things with sharp iron blades. The only time her
hood comes off he makes sure she is blinded by simple magical scrolls.
Duergar are the most easily hired for the sexual abuse. Anything to deprive
her sense of any sensation except for pain.

Chapter 5

Yaelin manages to fade into unconsciousness again. Whether from pain, fear,
or just sheer exhaustion she does not know. She only knows that here in her
dreams she is free. She runs through the underbrush in ancient forests,
faster than the rabbits she scares out of hiding. Everything so vibrant and
clear. Narrow patches of sunlight stream down onto her face and she can feel
the warmth. Always the same, running so fast and yet so lightly through
these ancient woods with trees so tall she cannot see the tops of them.
Always the same but slightly different.

These dreams have been coming for months and months, she does not have any
idea how long ago they started. Every time she returns though, she is where
she left, running deeper and deeper into the woods. She is not sure how she
knows that, but she does. She can feel something changing, like smelling
rain on the wind. The feeling incites anticipation, hope even. She could
see the clearing ahead, a place unlike the rest of this wooded land, with no
underbrush and the earth rising up into a kind of mound.

Chapter 4

As she broke into the clearing her stride slowed until she was standing
still. Forty paces yet from the mound covered in thick grass a lusher green
than the stuff struggling to grow under dense underbrush and dim-sunlight.
She could see the blue sky here. She could also see that she was not alone.
On the mound stood a large black wolf with an eerily aware look in its eyes.
Not the emotionless look you would expect to see in an animals face.

Then it spoke. For the first time Yaelin heard her own name. "I am pleased
you survived the trip Yaelin, but not overly surprised. I would not have
heard your cry if you were weak. You do not really understand where you are
or why, either here or...in the other place." Yaelin blinked and the wolf was
now a majestic falcon, still with those same overly animate eyes. "I will
help you find within you what is already there, a weapon to fight off the
fear and the pain." She blinked again and was now looking out a mountain
lion. "This time when you go back, you will have what is needed to be free.
It is up to you defeat the unknown, the fear, and see yourself back to this.."
Blink. Now a great grizzly bear. "It will not be precisely this, but with
your sweat and blood and anger, this could be what it might become. Go now
child, win your life or earn a proper rest and a certain kind of freedom of
its own."

As those words faded into an echo she felt herself propelled out of her
beloved ancient woods, hurtling back to her own slowly wakening body. The
pain was pulling her out of the fog of sleep, a sharp hot prick of iron
sliding through her forearm.

Chapter 3

Those familiar hands, that familiar smell. She knows all to well what is
happening and what will continue to happen. She is no longer afraid, only
angry. She wraps herself in that anger like a protective blanket, drowns in
it, and when she feels she might physically explode with its heat, Yaelin for
the first time since Draeskel has owned her, does more than whimper. She
looses a screaming howl so full of fury and aggression that the very ground
begins to shift and ripple. The walls buckle, the shoddy bars crumple and
fall, and the chains that are set into the wall and attached to her hands
break loose. Draeskel stumbles and falls, cursing as he bangs his head.
Yaelin pulls the hood off of her head and turns her gaze to her tormentor.
Draeskel does not realize it at the time but the look in the eyes of that
elven child frightens him. So struck with terror at the fury in her emerald
eyes, his bladder lets loose and his knees are too weak to let him stand.
Yaelin does not waste the opportunity, she dives on top of the man in front
of her. Still stunned, he does not even fight back until it is too late.
Yaelin drives both of her thumbs into his eyes up to the second knuckle. She
does not stop when he screams until his throat cracks, she does not stop
until she feels the eyes pop. She climbs off him and ignores him as he
flounders around screaming incoherently. It does not take her long to
realize she needs the key on the wall for the shackles. She does not discard
them however once they are off. She uses them to restrain her one-time
captor. This is going to take some time.

Several hours later, Yaelin emerges from the cellar and is at first almost
struck dumb by the wonderful night air and glimmer of the moon. Her head
lowered, covered in multitudes of horrendous scars and so much blood (almost
none of it her own), ragged clothing she truly looks the savage as she sneaks
from shadow to shadow as best as she is able until she reaches the western
gate of Galadon and out into where she belongs.

Chapter 2

Yaelin made her way through the wilds to the Emerald forest. She made that
her home and began living off the land with a natural ease. The druids of
the region approached her, sensing the divine touch. She took to the
training and more importantly she seemed to have an inherent ability in
reaching out to the wilderness around her.

She learned of Jasthrean and focused her energy on drawing the attention of
the Primeval.

Her first contact with the force of nature went clumsily and her previous
notions that she was already familiar with the Howl were proven very wrong.
She set to looking within to see if she could coax the Howl from within
herself and at the same time trying to find a home with the Outlanders.

She found her home with the Outlanders after proving herself to Mreash. She
now believes the efforts for both pursuits equate to the same thing. Her
anger drives her to hunt the enemies of the wilderness and Thar-Eris. Her
anger is her focus, the root for her Howl, that she will never again be a
victim and she will not allow her vision of what could be and what already is
to be victimized by her enemies either.

Role

Chapter 1

Yaelin's scars are noticeable and while she does not make an effort to hide
them she does not talk about them or acknowledge them in any way. If
they are pointed out she becomes volatile and aggressive generally about
something unrelated to the topic of her scars. People she considers
survivors, hunters, and possible allies she is somewhat subdued around
though she is not above using the edge of her tongue to cut to make her
point. Her anger, her force of presence seems to be entirely focused on
her enemies and institutions she sees as counterproductive to her goals.

She is not a bloodthirsty sociopath but killing people she perceives
might attempt to victimize her does give her a sense of satisfaction and
the empowering feeling of turning the tables and making them victims
through violence gives not only solace but an underlying rightness to the
shedding of blood.

She has few obvious mannerisms. When she gets anxious she will gnaw on
her bottom lip. When she becomes impatient she has a tendency to furrow
her brow. The give away that her anger is nearing boiling over is when
she begins to press her fingernails into her palms hard enough to turn
her knuckles white and leave indention in the skin.
