Chapter 3

Eschelian grew up fast. Too fast. Twenty years had flown by and
his attention to detail in the learning process rivalled
all but the most tedious of young gnomes. Everything he learned
seemed to flow together into one long piece of continuous knowledge.
His strange abilities seemed to atrophy his remaining skills,
mostly what he considered mundane. He quickly became unable to live
in society, unable to cook clean and live. Society quickly
rejected him into the care of a studious mentor.

Eschelian grew fast but he grew little in society. He
slowly quit reading books, quit interacting with others, and
took little interest even in his mentor. All his focus was
drawn to strange magics, always growing stronger but never
faltering from their source. His mentor placed him in the Invoker's
guild right away, and wiped his hands clean of the strange little gnome.

However, with this personal growth he changed drastically into a
hermit. His innatentive habits towards the more normalized guild members
did him little good in life. His own knowledge led him astray from
everything his considered a formality. No longer did he study the
more basic magic, aside from what he needed to know to survive.

Something in his mind drove him to an insane and complex personal
power grab in the form of knowledge. Sharing little of what he learns,
he constantly builds upon his own texts, using any available blade
or even stick to carve out his notes. The social hierarchy of the guild
hardly seems a suitable place for him, but he's mostly left alone to
his own studies. Which suits him just fine.

Now nearly seventy years old, he takes to the world a young gnome
with a slow, wise view. Mistrustful of others and calculated, he
finds his own ways to survive.

Role

Chapter 2

Eschelian has grown in knowledge, and power. These days he has
found himself allied with a group bent against civilization. Their
purposes suit Eschelian fine for the moment, but his
purpose is seemingly clouded by his instinctual disinclination towards law
and society.

His wisdom and knowledge grow, but he wonders how closely tied his knowledge
is to the civilization he destroys. Perhaps he won't know soon enough,
but that idea suits him fine.

Role

Chapter 1

Mature.
Eschelian has slowed down, and wisely ponders most of his actions.
When he uses his magics to hunt his foes, he likes to catch them
by complete surprise, ensuring their fear of him in future battles.

So far this has worked to his advantage. He carefully skirts battles
that look unfavorable, at least most times. Biding his time
for the correct time to strike, he has preserved his health.

His studies remain his primary goal. He has found powerful new magic,
as he had hoped. As his strength grows, as does his patience.
He has become more.. socialized, in a way. His time in the Refuge
has created a small link of trust between him and others who would
fight alongside him. Even so, he still finds himself alone most times,
and prefers it so.
