Chapter 4

The cool winds sent howls down the alley in the kingdom above the mountains.

"It is another lean year Kassibaz" his mother murmured as she shuffled into the shanty.

It had always been lean years since his hatching. His mother a beggar in the
highest of cities had never risen above groveling at the feet of others.
Life in essence was full of inequity. While the King and & Queen feasted
upon the finest of food and drink in the midst of rich company the squalor
and waste in the city had grown. As the cities below the mountain grew so
did they draw away the once noblest of houses. The city in the clouds was
merely a place of formal gesture now and the lowest of citizens felt the
angst of their people.

The proud Arials had ruled over the skies for the longest of times,
controlling commerce, the roads and safe passage. But as the world of
dwarves, man, giant and others grew they found new ways to avoid the need for
these luxuries.The royal family clung tightly to their purses, slowly
cutting the aid programs that kept even the poorest citizen better than a
common beggar or thief.

But how quickly the rich and powerful become powerless when the winds of
change and desperation whip into their homes. The resentment grew amongst
the populace, but their malnutrition and fear of retribution kept them
clinging to the hope that the city in the sky would rise again...

Chapter 3

Inequality. It stems from a thought, a perception gold lust. Thera
crawled with it, Kassibaz grew up with a keen understand of this. He could
feel the clutch of tyranny siphoning the will of his people, of THE people.
His mother continued to beg throughout his maturation from a weak hatchling
to a well-nourished personal bodyguard.The process was slow and arduous,
the constant training to enhance the brittle body, the sharpening of the mind
against the stone of hatred. Working for the same iron hand of lust had
taught me the true workings of those in power. Their desire to cling to
their wealth like the air itself. As the panic had gripped the city in the
skies the rich knew they must shield themselves from the masses. The same
masses he had stemmed from.

The contradiction burned in his blood, each night he thrashed in his roost as
he recalled the events that had brought him here. The passing of his mother,
she was robbed and bludgeoned to death by the roving gangs that transformed
the city into the wastelands at night. The great purge of the fourth winter,
all had been an attempt to cull the weak and suffering so that only the
finest elements of Arial society remain. Each in their own way had
been shelved, and left to fester at the edge of his consciousness. The tug
of the past waging war against the reality of the present, the expansion of
his role as one of the elite guards to the begging chains of his youth

Chapter 2

The pool of blood grew at the base of the tree and Kassibaz could feel
darkness setting in. Wave after wave of barbarians had stormed the gates
only to fall to arrows, pikes, swords and yet they kept coming.Diving into
the fray he cut down one after another until a whirlwind of steel seemed to
emanate from the bloodstained Arial. Soon the cuts began to take their toll,
his flurry of blades were began to wane, muscles burned as they were deprived
of nutrients. As he began to stumble he reached for a potion on his belt and
quickly guzzled the last of a potion that lurched him into the woods. Under
the sprawling shade of an elm visions of death and glory danced in his head.
The faces, bodies and weapons of those he had fought seemed to come alive in
the fading light.

The pull became stronger, the hallucinations stifled his screams as he
grasped for his swords, swinging blindly at the elf, the duergar, the ranger
and the dark knight a panicked expression washed over his visage. For each
vision that was cleaved by his blade two sprung. Hopelessness and despair
shook the very foundations of his wings causing a trembling sensation within
his talons. As suddenly as they appeared, they again vanished and Kassibaz
could hear nothing, not even the whisper of the wind. Instead everything was
silent, peaceful, the calming vision of blue burned into his eyes causing him
to raise a still shaking talon, but it shone through his hand.


When Kassibaz awoke night had fallen, the wounds had scabbed over and the
cool mists crept into the forest. As he stumbled to his feet he could feel
the pull of Thera beckoning him to war.

Role

Chapter 1

The dance began once more. He could feel his bondmate soaring in the clouds
above him waiting to strike as he stood outside the village. The stench of
blood and decay swirled around his form. Feathers were matted against the
lithe form, covered in dirt and grime Kassibaz stood ragged. Turning his
head upwards he felt a surge of warmth surround him as his reflexes
quickened, he felt his skin tighten and become like the rocks himself. The
taste of war was thick in the air, Kassibaz grew tense.Sensing his wariness
almost before he did Delagny broke into his mind.

"We will prevail Rhyme, I will keep you safe."

His visage softened almost a look of serenity washed over him. Quickly
Kassibaz dashed towards the figure in the distance slicing viciously with his
daggers, at each turn he was greeted with a gush of blood. Moving like the
winds themselves he turned on his foes ducking, dodging, slipping between
their defenses lashing out with his weapons.

As he enemies dropped one of them landed a strong blow to Kassibaz's stomach
causing blood to gush everywhere, panic broke through in his eyes. Feeling
his angst the Meter dove from the skies, clawing madly at the attacks,
driving them back he gripped one of the Rhyme's wrists and drag him out of
the Village. Shifting his form he called them back to a healer. As the
blood pooled around his form Kassibaz felt the warmth surge through him as
his reflexes slowed causing him to feel as if a giant weight has befallen
him, the bleeding slowed to a trickle and his muscles ceased to burn with
exhaustion. The bond had saved him once more.
